    If anyone thinks that it was just his line that was the main reason for him having so much success, watch his first Superbowl against the Packers, the announcers can't stop talking about how the Denver line is one of the smallest in the NFL; and how the key match up was going to be the Packers HUGE defensive line, one of the best in the NFL at the time. If an offensive line was so critical to his success, Emmitt would have rushed for 2,000 with that stacked line he had. I know that the offensive line is a huge part of the run game, the Cowboys now-a-days can put anyone in the back field and get 1,000 yards out of them; but pushing beyond just 1,000 yards and getting 21 touchdowns in a season, 2,008 yards AND being so great in the playoffs against the best teams, it says something about the player.

      I think TD is one of the best I ever saw, but the point about how small the Denver O-line is a little off. Shanahan's O-line wasn't a bunch of big guys but that was by design. He wanted smaller, more nimble guys that fit into his running offense. It was due to the scheme he ran. It was a primary, counters & secondary counters that they ran off of limited formations. It required guys that weren't as big, but could move a little better to get to their spots.

    • @superzero4250

      The Denver O-Line was by design efficient, agile, and quick. That is why Denver could literally put anyone in the backfield and they would get 1000 yards by the end of the season, as evidence of what happened when Davis was lost to injury. Terrell Davis was so good, that is why he was able to reel off 2000 yards…
      Emmitt Smith had one of the best O-Lines in NFL history, even he never came close to 2000 yards and he had plenty of opportunities to reach it. Terrell Davis could have had two 2000 yards seasons, However, chose to sit out the last game and a half the season prior to achieving it. The season he did accomplish the feet, was more of an expectation rather than an aspiration that year…

What most forget is he took off the second half in many games. Broncos we’re blowing people out. I know they were saving him but imagine if he had just 60 more rushes. Maybe 2300 yrd maybe more. Still it was a great year.

    TD did a lot of things exceptionally. He was extremely strong. He was smart, he used his blockers well, he had great vision, and he had better speed than he got credit for. What I thought stood out, was how calm he ran and how he stayed on his feet. His balance was incredible. The Broncos drafted an RB in the 1st round in 1982 (Gerald Willhite). He was a great athlete (could do backflips) but he could not stay on his feet, so he never became a featured back. TD was incredible.

    @kormathawa6152 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Definitely the MVP of both Super Bowl years for the Broncos. Sure, Elway had a career worthy of his HOF, but TD and the OL were the reason for the SB victories. His ability to see the cutback lane and be through it was unparalleled, but the little thing that highlight reels don't show: He was almost never dropped for a loss. The other teams would stack 8 men in the box, and Denver would just run the exact same play up the middle 3 times in a row. The D would hit TD in the backfield and he would carry them for 3-4. They'd run it again, he'd do the same. They'd run it again and he'd break it for 20. He had power, vision, speed, and a quick cut. Saquan Barkley is the first modern RB I've seen that even comes close.

    Terrell Davis is the big reason why Denver won their first two Super Bowls and John Elway has those tings is because of Terrell Davis. Denver finally had a feature back and didn't need a committee of 3 to 4 running backs during the season. Where the Broncos in Super Bowls finally had a running game AND a defense that didn't fall apart and give up 40 plus points in a Super Bowl. Sadly that ACL tear prevented Davis from having a longer NFL career the next season. Just a freak accident after trying to tackle on an interception and getting rolled up by his lineman. He would have had over 10,000 yard if that were the case.

If TD's career were as long at Brady's, he would POSSIBLY be greatest of all time. Imagine the rep that Brady would have if he only played 6 years.. Terrell Davis' regular season numbers alone didn't get him in the HOF. Look at this postseason numbers. No running back in the history of football has ever put up anything close to resembling those numbers. For example, Marshawn Lynch had an awesome 2014 postseason: 318 yards in 3 games at 5.0 ypc - those are elite numbers! In 1998 in 3 games, Terrell Davis went for 468 yards and 3 tds at 6.0 ypc. That doesn't even take TD's 1997 postseason into account.

      83 Marcus Allen had the greatest playoffs in a season by a RB. John Riggins in the strike year of 82 had more productive numbers

    • @markvincent1011
      @markvincent1011 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@howardcosell2022 Davis's '98 postseason performance (three games) is comparable to Allen's in '83 (three games), although Allen's was superior -- similar rushing yards in fewer attempts, more receiving yards, more TDs. Riggins's '82 postseason (four games) is a lot like Davis's in '97 (four games) -- 5% more rushing yards (but 21% more attempts), while Davis had twice as many TDs and a few more touches in the passing game. But the point is that Allen and Riggins never matched either of their singular postseason performances. Davis had back-to-back postseasons that were comparable to two of the greatest single postseasons ever, from two different HOFers.

    This man deserves to be in the HoF. If he played longer he would be top 10 in all major rush stats, and in his short career he carried Elgay's pathetic ass to 2 SB rings

      Elway lead 3 incredibly weak Broncos teams in the 80s to Super Bowls. He lost them, but those teams were terrible. Dude was a miracle worker.
      Also, if TD played longer, the Broncos would probably have 5 rings by now.

      TD is easily better than TO, no hate to TO but TD just earned it more than TO. Nearly 9k rushing yards in 6 seasons and 65 total TDs. a 2k rushing 21 TD season. SB MVP 2 time SB champ.

    • @xaviervega468
      @xaviervega468 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL what? TD didn't even get 8K rushing yards much less nearly 9k
      TO was 8th all time in catches, 2nd all-time in receiving yards, and 3rd all-time in receiving TD's 5th all-time in total TD's. Davis career rushing numbers are nowhere near the top of the list. Really it's his postseason career that got him in. But his overall body of work does not stack up to TO's.

      Terrell Owens is a first-ballot HOFer. No ifs, ands, or buts.
      I'm a Broncos fan, and I DO think TD deserved to be in the HoF... But he also deserved multiple ballots- he has SO few games played. TD had a stellar career for only playing four healthy seasons. Two rings, a SB MVP and NFL MVP, 3x Pro Bowler, 2x Offensive Player of the Year, a 2000 yd season (despite missing 8 quarters), and the all-time franchise leader at RB for the Broncos.

    • @LP2Check
      @LP2Check 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TD was BY FAR and I mean 100% BY FAR a 1st ballot HOF. He was 1 hell of a player and injuries cut him short. TD stays healthy and plays another 4-5 years in his prime he shatters the all time rushing record. He was an all around fantastic player. His performance in the playoffs alone speak for themself. TD was twice the player TO ever was and he was a team guy...TO, not so much. TO is a HOF now but TD was incredible.
      He accomplished all of those stats in essentially 4 years. Plus 1100 yards and 12 TD in 3 playoff appearances (seasons)...get out of here
