@MagicantProductions Also, if you notice at 7:07 Daigo knew he was going to flash kick because one of his fireballs canceled lamerboi's first attempt. Then daigo very slightly backed up out of range and kept firing until he flash kicked again.
@iplayvidsman Let me clarify something, not all people who play fighting games are sponsored. There are people who play it competitively just for fun if you get what I mean.
@supervideogamejunkie it's the invisible dimension you're not looking at: the spacing. Daigo spaced guile really well. Made it so that sonic hurricane barely hit him and made the flash kick barely miss in the end.
@adammurrayXD some of them are Heavy Fireballs...and some are light. dont know if theres any medium, but normally you can tell by the speed theyre going. the weaker the punch the slower the Fireball. hes was mixing it up.
@we1n88 I think the colour of the projectiles could change maybe to orange when you only have 5 left and then a sound effect can play on the final one and a different colour (red) for that one. That would be a visual indication, but the number left could be displayed by a bar or indicator on the HUD. I do agree that you need skill to use them, but its not fun playing against a spammer, changes the game from a fight to a shoot out :)
Rarely if ever will I say this, but that was a fireball heavy match that actually was enjoyable to watch. Though the 7 to 8 projectile collisions in a row before changing up inputs was tedious at time you could at least see that the gears were turning in the player's heads about when to change things up, and though not as fast paced as a SF3 match, there was clearly some solid mind games being played by Daigo that made this match fun to watch.
@Pheenak that wasnt a rush, lamerboi wanted to flashkick really bad for some reason at the last 10 sec when he was cornered. i dont know why though. first one it got stuffed and it didnt come out and then 2nd one was the one that whiffed. i really wonder what he was thinking at the time, and what his reason might be for such a desperate flashkick. and too bad he didnt make top 8. wonder why he lost to henry cen
incredible fireball zoning by Daigo in the end if anyone saw when Daigo did the third fireball he moved back a little because he knew guile's flash kick range and anticipated it to come out and whiff giving Daigo the punish. Daigo can seriously pull off some clutch plays granted hes probably the most smartest street fighter player to enter the scene by far.
@PhoenixRisen7 Interesting concept, how do you suggest players could keep count of the projectiles? How do they get penalized if they've overdone it? I think however throwing projectiles need skills too. Being able to control spacing and building meter is essential in high level matches. You'd feel more positive about the match if you have that in mind. :)
@MyselfGrilo Watch from 3:10 on. Just from what I see. Lamerboi kept pushing forward and using his knee dash thing. Daigo would dash forward every so often after a fire ball, because he knew that he was two dashes away from being able to SRK a jump in.
@BlackLionFilms daigo used it as a tactic. it was said at the beginning of the match. guile builds up meter fast so it's only logical for lamerboi to spam sonic booms. if daigo wasnt spamming, he would only have to take chip and avoid all the sonic booms, risking getting hit. why would he take that risk if he can just block those with hadoukens?
@iamfoob you dont need any tools if you can "read the opponent" like you said. if hes crossing over, you gaurd correctly, if he tick throws you tech. every character can deal with wake up pressure. they can gaurd and they can tech. technically, if you do both of those perfectly (again "reading the opponent" like you said) than you have all the tools to handle their pressure i dont get why you said "if ryu reads the opponent hes unstoppable!zomg!"any character is a monster if they read correctly
Daigo really is beast... he's so fearless... if I were him at the end of that last round, I would NOT throw fireballs anywhere near the range of Sonic Hurricane. Crazy guy... even in that notorious match he lost against Marn in seasons beatings, Marn's Dudley had a FULL Ultra 1 bar, but Daigo was STILL shooting those fireballs... the fuck is up with this guy.
@rgm501theoriginal Yeah, the whole match was lamerboi charging downback... worst thing is you can't punish Guile's sonic boom with shinkuu (unless he throws a fierce one... which is highly unlikely).
God Damn, Daigo is smart as Hell. At 1:16, that FK isn't random. In SSF4, LK FK has more projectile invincibility, so now, when Shoto's do cr.mk to hadouken, you can FK in between. 1:16 is the FIRST time Lamerboi had a down charge during one of Daigo's block strings, so he tried to FK through the hadouken he thought was going to come. Daigo knew he was going to try to FK and just threw out only the cr.mk That's a mix of precise character knowledge AND reading someone really well.
At 7:06 he tried to do a flash kick before, so he did that intentionally probably because he thought Daigo was going to jump for some last minute shield pressure.
Greatt match. If you're good, you can master a character in a technical sense in one day in training mode. But to have that kind of mental discipline... oh mannn.... so much pressure!
@LaSwagga Agreed 100 percent. I fail to see why people even bother commenting on Tourney footage if all theyre gonna do is bash tourneys in general. Why waste the breath if its "dumb " to you? We love fighting games enough to play them competitively. Period. Its no different than playing any other game or sport competitively. Some folk around here need to REMEMBER THAT! Hell winning 10 stacks is just bonus.
2024 herer, just wanted to watch some good Street Figher. Recognized James Chen by voice, and SKill from the catchprase "is that good". Don't know the 3rd commentator tho.
@fasterthansound101 Why shouldn't you practice how to avoid them? That's just like practicing how to block crossups, practicing to link combos, etc. But nevertheless, what is going on in this match isn't actually spamming, it's zoning and throwing a projectile DOES have risks. Both players realize this. Observe 4:06 in which Guile throws a sonic boom at too close of a range at Ryu and Ryu tatsu kicks past it and destroys Guile. JUST cause of that unwise sonic boom.
i know this is sensible + high-level play but what do people think about limiting how many projectiles you can fire in a match in some way or having a meter that goes down each time you use one. cos watching this - it is a bit lame, its not exactly fighting.
@shempi81 Exactly.... Playing to win is playing to win. If your opponent is weak against the grab, grab him. If hadokens are his weakness - expose him. I don't idk why people complain. A good strategy is just that
People find this match boring because all they see is a fireball war, but the projectiles are only a small aspect of the game. It would be like watching a boxing match and claiming it boring because all they do is throw punches. There's technique behind those punches. It's easy to look with your eyes, but to see with your mind...
Lot of potential from lamerboi, if it wasn't for the big stage semi-final jetters, I honestly think that in that match and at his level of play he was the better player. I also think that if daigo stayed with ryu after potentially loosing that first game he would have been booted to the loosers bracket. In case you didn't notice the robot showed an uncharactoristic amount of emotion during that bout. Not to say lamerboi is better than diago overall, but THAT match he could have been.
@TheDonaldduck911 I agree....they are professionals. No different then comedians..even they are not considered athletes yet they take pride in being the best at making people laugh on stage....and actually lose a lot of weight doing so in a single act. Chess people are not athletes, yet the best at it are famous (bobby fisher) and take pride in what they do....SSF4 is no different,,it is a craft that can be mastered..
@DAORIGINALC65 Meaning that Daigo will get you confidence up by making deliberate moves that seem risky and routine, then once you think you can counter him, he counters you as you have fallen into his trap :O
@kyozin ryu got considerably nerfed, just because daigo plays him like a raptor on crack, it makes it look like to you, the untrained eye, he's overpowered.
He is not spamming he is building meter. Why would he do jump ins on guile when guile has the best anti airs. Daigo is a smart player and he knows when to rush down or
@rsxzx6r dude there's no point in trying to argue with these people, they'll never understand that hadokens are a zoning tool, not spam, especially in this matchup. It's true though, this is the most balanced fighting game around today; it's like a chess match, it all comes down to reading your opponent's next move. Not everyone can hang in street fighter, that's why games like tekken exist in the first place, so slower players can play fighting games too.
@YoshiPlatinum I was being sarcastic, but the joke was dull. Too many people comment on Street Fighter videos about "fireball spamming" and the amount of projectiles being thrown...you are supposed to throw fireballs/sonic booms when you play Street Fighter, there is no room for error in pro matches like this.
@b7ray32 Saying that being good at SF4 is equivalent to being good at pushing buttons is like saying that being good at soccer is equivalent to being good at kicking a ball around.
@ayaueto88 Lamerboi's good. Justing Wong barely beat him in Norcal Regionals. Warahk never travels outside of Socal, but he's a really respected Guile in the SRK Guile forums and in Socal. Also, bad luck with the brackets holds a lot of players back. Dagger had to face Justin Wong in pools (where he lost), then literally 5 min. after, he had to play Ryder, one of the best Abel's in the US and one of Guile's worst match ups. I heard Modinside couldn't make it.
@demorik it is the most balanced fighting game out there....every move has a counter...everything can be dodged or reversed....there are stronger characters...but if u pick ur best character..theres always someone better than will beat u with a "weaker" character...just takes a little more skill
Coming back from 2018....I really miss the hype of SF4 alas~
The Ryu quote at the end speaks volumes of this situation. "If you go in into the ring expecting to fail, you will. Believe in yourself!"
Scary.
@MagicantProductions Also, if you notice at 7:07 Daigo knew he was going to flash kick because one of his fireballs canceled lamerboi's first attempt. Then daigo very slightly backed up out of range and kept firing until he flash kicked again.
biggest choke match of all time, no doubt
This is the first tournament stream I saw. God how i miss this times, the hype was so intense...
Yeah that shit’s over with sad huh
My favorite part was when Ryu threw the haduken and Guile countered with a sonic boom.
@iplayvidsman Let me clarify something, not all people who play fighting games are sponsored. There are people who play it competitively just for fun if you get what I mean.
is guile's ultra useless in this game? I hardly see any guile players on SF4 doing this, and mostly all guile players lose. Is he lower tier or what?
great match. these commentators are quite good. excellent insight. they read the game perfectly. they make the viewing even more enjoyable
@supervideogamejunkie it's the invisible dimension you're not looking at: the spacing. Daigo spaced guile really well. Made it so that sonic hurricane barely hit him and made the flash kick barely miss in the end.
@adammurrayXD
some of them are Heavy Fireballs...and some are light. dont know if theres any medium, but normally you can tell by the speed theyre going. the weaker the punch the slower the Fireball. hes was mixing it up.
i think the sound was a bit off.
its funny that people think they cant play because of their fireball crash,that was one of the most intresting and intense matches ive seen in a long
how did he focus cancel to a sonic boom?
@zapikachu she's pretty fly, im not mad. You eyeing Ricky?
@YCCA9K a normal shoyuken, which he focus attack dash cancelled in order to do the ultra.
@we1n88 I think the colour of the projectiles could change maybe to orange when you only have 5 left and then a sound effect can play on the final one and a different colour (red) for that one. @MrHyerty I'm stupid because I can't read sarcasm in text? Thanks for the heads up.
@MyselfGrilo
Watch from 3:10 on. Just from what I see.
Lamerboi kept pushing forward and using his knee dash thing. Daigo would dash forward every so often after a fire ball, because he knew that he was two dashes away from being able to SRK a jump in.
1:35 is that possible or a glitch ?
@BlackLionFilms daigo used it as a tactic. it was said at the beginning of the match. guile builds up meter fast so it's only logical for lamerboi to spam sonic booms. if daigo wasnt spamming, he would only have to take chip and avoid all the sonic booms, risking getting hit. why would he take that risk if he can just block those with hadoukens?
@LittleAznMan LOL i wonder how many viewers replayed the clip to try look for her
AWWGAGAGWWWGAGAGWW!!!! That's the sound of a thousand hearts breaking!

Lmfao I swear dude, Daigo is the ultimate troll in SF. Gets you're e-peen huge for most of the match then BAM, dead and broken mentally.
@Sosozanyway It was a joke about the amount of projectiles thrown. Were you kidding or not?
@rgm501theoriginal Yeah, the whole match was lamerboi charging downback... worst thing is you can't punish Guile's sonic boom with shinkuu (unless he throws a fierce one... which is highly unlikely).
Good example of Daigo not playing Ryu but playing his opponent.. made him crack under the pressure.. Freakin' crazy guile tho
God Damn, Daigo is smart as Hell. At 1:16, that FK isn't random. In SSF4, LK FK has more projectile invincibility, so now, when Shoto's do cr.mk to hadouken, you can FK in between.

That's a mix of precise character knowledge AND reading someone really well.
Dang...Lamerboi's really frustrated, judging by his reaction at the end...I almost feel bad for him since he's done a very great job.
Cracked like a cheap lawn chair at the end
@Nutrient16 old
If you go into the ring expecting to fail, you will.
Believe in yourself!
At 7:06 he tried to do a flash kick before, so he did that intentionally probably because he thought Daigo was going to jump for some last minute shield pressure.
Damn I can't imagine how much a loss like that must hurt.
almost 12 years later...
This particular match should be called 'Super Boom Fire 4' xD
@YoshiPlatinum To each his own I suppose, I find the match to be exciting enough, but I find most high level matches to be exciting.
Greatt match. If you're good, you can master a character in a technical sense in one day in training mode. But to have that kind of mental discipline... oh mannn.... so much pressure!
@DjShini
Absolutly. Im drinking Sheffer Fort/Coke and Grolsch from Holland. Very great Matches !
@NecroSexy gameinn is actually the gamertag of a friend of his, daigo doesnt own a 360 himself so he uses his friends to play online :p
@LaSwagga Agreed 100 percent. I fail to see why people even bother commenting on Tourney footage if all theyre gonna do is bash tourneys in general. Why waste the breath if its "dumb " to you? It's just a small little hiccup in the video
@fasterthansound101 That shows how much you know about the character.
Fantastic guile... well done sir.
AWAGAWAWAAAAOHMYGAD! Thats sound of thousand hearts breaking!
Lamer boy seemed crouching in real life(maybe to charge his moves better) :)
i know this is sensible + high-level play but what do people think about limiting how many projectiles you can fire in a match in some way or having a meter that goes down each time you use one. cos watching this - it is a bit lame, its not exactly fighting.

Exactly.... Playing to win is playing to win. If your opponent is weak against the grab, grab him. If hadokens are his weakness - expose him. I don't idk why people complain. A good strategy is just that
That's the definition of cracking under pressure from Lamer Boy
@TheDupes1337 True that. But he was more broken in Vanilla which i still play btw.
lol ryu's win quote was so appropriate. believe in yourself, lamerboi!
Daigo´s pressure was amazing, lamerboi cracked.
@TheDupes1337 You're kidding, right???
Two heartbreakers in a row, I'd hit the bar right after this lol
Best damn SSF4 Guile in the USA
People find this match boring because all they see is a fireball war, but the projectiles are only a small aspect of the game. @tehdarmaster Nope Kuroda is a bigger troll in 3rd strike. Watch some of his videos lol
@DAORIGINALC65 Meaning that Daigo will get you confidence up by making deliberate moves that seem risky and routine, then once you think you can counter him, he counters you as you have fallen into his trap :O
@xLAMERBOIx
dunno what your talking about turtle boy.
@gameworldanime yeah dude totally
@kyozin ryu got considerably nerfed, just because daigo plays him like a raptor on crack, it makes it look like to you, the untrained eye, he's overpowered.
Ryu's win quote could be applied to Lamerboi haha
@YoshiPlatinum no problem
Lamerboi plays frequently on Peaceful Jay's Collesium on Justin.tv. Check it out!
my heart was beating on the last round. though i really wanted lamerboi to win.
He is not spamming he is building meter. Why would he do jump ins on guile when guile has the best anti airs. Daigo is a smart player and he knows when to rush down or
Man, great match!
sad that he didn't have enough time to ragequit so he started button mashing at the end.
hadoken hadoken hadoken hadoken sonic boom sonic boom sonic boom shoryuken
@rsxzx6r dude there's no point in trying to argue with these people, they'll never understand that hadokens are a zoning tool, not spam, especially in this matchup. Not everyone can hang in street fighter, that's why games like tekken exist in the first place, so slower players can play fighting games too.
@MyselfGrilo
Uhhh, no... it's very much calculated. And it works. Spamming is aimlessly throwing hadokens.

Too much pressure from Daigo Evo and the crowd biggest choke ever
THE BEAST!
BEST MATCH EVER!!
Amazing match.

@b7ray32 thats not exactly true because i play this game, i also do Muay Thai, so really you can't say that..
HUGO is in the background never noticed that.
well he was empty jumping when daigo was full screen away..daigo just read that by dashing forward twice
sometimes you just aren't clutch enough. props though lamerboi, good performance. he reached for the sky lmao.
I am pretty sure I've never seen Daigo lose!
@demorik it is the most balanced fighting game out there....every move has a counter...everything can be dodged or reversed....there are stronger characters...but if u pick ur best character..theres always someone better than will beat u with a "weaker" character...just takes a little more skill
That was a suspenseful ending. Both played very well but what do you expect...it's Daigo. LOL!!!!
OMG! I had infarcted! XD
i know exactly what lamerboi was thinking...
FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...
