Excellent video that I will rewatch and take notes from. I have watched MANY kitchen design videos and this is the best in presentation, depth of information, relevant and beautiful photos and details on the screen for screen captures! Thank you so much!! ❤
I cant go to ceiling as is wayyyyy higher. I dont want to put a bulkhead down to the cabinets either as the end of the pavilion where they are is clad in beautiful stone and mortar right up to the top pitch at 6 metres (19.6feet). On this occasion I will place them at 2.7m (approx 8.8 feet) and keep the whole living/dining/kitchen open. I want the building to look like it's been there for a long time, and we've come in and added the kitchen joinery which will 'act/look' like furniture against the walls. I have, however, kept upper cabs to a minimum, notwithstanding a beautiful curved plastered range hood. love love loving your channel :))))
This is excellent. Exactly the type of advice I was looking for...from someone with good taste (I also cannot live without marble! 😊). I would love to see a video that goes into more depth regarding color and material combinations. For example, taking an existing kitchen that needs renovation and making suggestions for different color and material combinations that would look good with the character of the house. My house is made of cedar, and somebody suggested I use a brick backsplash. My instinct is to say "no" because it is not a brick house. I have thought about using marble for the backsplash, but that seems like it may be too grand for a cedar house. What I really need to do is get in touch with you for a consultation!
This is the perfect primer for today’s kitchen. Nina, you had me jumping up several times to see if my kitchen was measuring up. My kitchen, which I love, scored high. Two important elements that I did not inherit from the seller, are marble or quartzite countertops, and mixed metals. The mixed metals are easily accomplished, the counters I will live with, they are manmade quartz. Going to share a cute terminology I learned from a woman whose husband built them a galley kitchen in their second home log cabin. It was narrow, narrower than she would have liked. She calls it her “one butt kitchen.”
Can you share what kind of stems you have in the vase? They look so good, but I just can’t make them out with the white on white background. Advice on point, especially about negatives on porcelain! Always beautiful Nina 🩷
This was an incredible video. Full of all the necessary detail required when planing or updating a kitchen!! I love marble but avoided it in the kitchen. I did go with quartzite which I also love. The marble sealer back then looked like plastic. I had not heard about Tuff Skin - if you approve I am guessing I will too. Thank you for all this wonderful advice. ❤ 🙏🏼
I just found you. Subscribed w/o prompting because you are a baddie! I am doing quartz. Wanted to do a mirror backsplash. Both in black but I chickened out. Instead black Cambria stonestreet counter and full height backsplash with no uppers. I agonized over the triangle and spacing. It is 14 feet from stove to cooktop. 😮 the sink is in between. So i do have a triangle. But it is just me and i am guessing i over did it. To late. But i have been stuck on your page for 2 hours. Loving it.
I want a butler kitchen/ or where all the cooking and cleaning can be done any suggestions? I have formal living and formal dining room hardly ever used but not attached to kitchen and in the middle of the house. How can I add this space?
We are doing a new build. I agree about cabinets to the ceiling however, one side of our kitchen will be on a vaulted ceiling wall, if that makes sense. Any suggestions or maybe I can’t doing anything about the “floating cabinet” look🤷♀️
Hi. I’m planning my new kitchen. I really want my kitchen cabinets to go all the way to the celing. But this is an old house and i have beems. How to solve floor to celing cabinets when the beems are there? Should i take the uppers up to the beem and then use trim/crown molding to finish of the seamless look? I need the beems, they are structual. Marit 🇳🇴
My new home will have vaulted ceilings in the kitchen. In the model home the upper cabinets look like they’re floating. How could I set up my upper cabinets?
@@NinaTakesh at the end of a long remodel. I have white oak cabinets planned and white oak floors throughout the home and there is no way to break up the floor in the kitchen area. Does it help that my island is a charcoal? What else can I do to prevent the sauna look?
I just don’t get this “no upper cabinet” thing. I do think it is a trend because no upper cabinets is so impractical and enormous waste of space for storage. Unless you are under 5 feet, who wants to bend down to get a dish or plate? Who has a kitchen big enough to store everything unless you never cook or have a very minimalist kitchen? The “no upper cabinet” thing reminds me of “open shelves” kitchen in that it is a trend.

Good morning Nina, I have painted cabinets in perfect condition….but they don’t go to the ceiling😩. Any ideas to update this?
Love you❤

I feel like the elimination of upper cabinets is more for those who can afford a large house
