    Sorry for the conflicting info...but I have received additional clarification, and the engraving is indeed done by laser. So...consider this a correction to my correction. 🤣

    Great review, David. For those who have never seen a Diamond Cast finish in the flesh, you're in for a real treat. I think this new Bologna is a great addition in the spirit of the original Omas, offering a great nib and piston fill. This is the second independent review I've seen praising the quality of the nib.

    I do like the resin, even though greys aren’t usually my preference. I think my favourite part of this video was seeing all the porticos in Bologna. So beautiful! I didn’t know Bologna had the most porticos of any city. Who thought to count?
    Personally, I like fine nibs and rarely have a problem with them being scratchy - certainly not more than I’ve had with any other size nib. I haven’t used any of these new nibs. Am I right in remembering that the original nib-making machine resides with another company? Where is @iron mic? He knows.
    Thanks for the video, David!

      Maybe ASC (Armando Simoni Club) or Scribo? At any rate, Scribo’s 14k gold nibs, particularly, are the real incarnation today of the very essence and soul of what made the original OMAS gold nibs (esp, the 14k) quite peerless. Although I’m not very fond of the design aesthetics of Scribo’s pen models, so far, I bought two Scribo Feel pens mainly for the stellar nibs. I was right, too. ASC, on the other hand, merely use some remnants of the old celluloid stocks of OMAS to churn out various pens fitted with generic Jowo nibs and indifferent QC.

    I do have 3 Omas pens, the Ogiva, the 360 and a Milord from the original company.
    I do like the Diamondcast resin very much. The price is reasonable, considering the gold nib, though i wish there was a steel nin version.
    One question i had was a rumor that Nahvalur is a financial backer of Omas?

    I love the stamping on the nib and for a moment I thought the ink was a full on purple
    How does it feel compared to the Leonardo nib? Making EF/F nibs that aren't scratchy is quite difficult in most cases

      I never liked EF nibs, in general. But I must say that the ones I own today after some careful thought before buying have proved to be very nice indeed. EF gold nibs from Aurora, Stipula and Montegrappa that I own are very consistent, sweet and satisfying writers, in their own right.

    Beautiful pen! Tim does a fantastic job with the DiamondCast resins. Any idea who makes the nib? Is it a Bock, JoWo, or in-house? REALLY hoping for in-house made with the old Omas tooling.

    • @dapprman
      @dapprman 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      ScriBo own the original tooling, however I suspect the new OMAS group may have an arrangement with them for new 'OMAS' nibs with the old branding.

    I did not know that McKenzie Penworks was located in N.C. I have the Nebulosa Laguna; a Goldspot/McKenzie Penworks/Leonardo Exclusive Edition.

    The pen is supposedly made in Naples, which makes me wonder if it's an OEM product by either Leonardo or Delta/Maiora. That engraving looks similar to the ones used on Leonardos, the ebonite feed looks identical to the ones used on gold nibbed Leonardos an the shape reminds me of the Momento Magico.

    • @dapprman
      @dapprman 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It is Gioio, who teamed up with TPF and Navhalur as part of the new OMAS group. The nibs and feeds look (on screen) identical to the old ones so are most likely sourced from ScriBo who have the original machines.

    I have a hard time believing that is a hand engraved Omas logo. I don’t know how you would get micro stripes with a hand tool. Plus I just don’t see it being cost effective to engrave each pen by hand. Seems fishy.

      It could be a stamping. Making a die with that pattern shouldn’t be hard. The uneven depth of some of the letters seems to corroborate the stamping hypothesis

    This is really just another one of the new faux-OMAS pens. A phony marketing ruse merrily milking the venerable old brand’s prestige and desirability to profit off selling these new pens to people who have long yearned to own an OMAS pen. Except these pens really don’t compare to the original OMAS pens of old.
    I have held and test written with a few of these supposedly OMAS pens. And it is pretty disappointing, all round. The nib is pretty meh. The Diamond cast resin is just so much overhyped silliness. And there’s been an overkill of the use and marketing of this material by a few other pen companies, in recent times.
    Not telling anybody not to buy these pens, obviously. But truth be told, nobody who owns, have used and loved the real OMAS will be happy with these pens at all. At the very least, I wish they were not called OMAS.

    • @PenFriends

      Unfortunately, the involvement of the pen family leaves me somewhat sceptical of how well this new omas will fair

      @@PenFriends To be blunt: these new faux OMAS pens are basically Nahvalur pens rebranded as OMAS with a Chinese nib. What’s to like about any of that, really?
