My best tip is, take charge of your space I’ve talked to so many quilters who have a formal dining room they use twice a year, or a couple bedrooms that are kept for use by adult children long out of the house. You’ll use a quilting studio frequently. Claim that space and make it your own!
My goodness, you have Sid in the paneling on the wall. LOL Just couldn't resist letting you know after I saw him. Can you tell I have had children and grandchildren? Merry Christmas.
This is great! I am just starting to put together my sewing room. Any ideas for storing thread? I want something that keeps the spool and bobbin together so I don't get mixed up finding the matching bobbin.
I really like the tread spool holder that's on my pegboard. I keep bobbins on it too. Although a lot of people refuse to keep their thread out in the open because it will get dusty. There are enclosed thread storage cases that would work great in that case.
This is probably the worst part- cleaning 😩 But it is so nice to have a tidy space to work in. I do have a robot sweeper that helps me a tremendous amount. Just need to be careful about what I have on the floor before she gets to work 😅

I need table space behind and to the left of my sewing machine. I cannot sew with the back of the machne up against a wall. My ironing space is 30" X 48" and I would really like it to be 5 feet long, but space. I also have a wool mat next to the sewing machine for pressing while I am piecing. My cutting/layout table is 5 ft X 6 ft and 36" tall. Again I wish I had the space for a bigger table. Thanks for sharing
I can't have my machine backed up against a wall either! Mainly because I startle VERY easily, I need to see if someone is walking toward me. But I also cannot deal with fabric bunching up behind the machine either.
Have you thought about adding a drop leaf to your current table so that you can make it bigger when you need it? That's something I am considering with mine.

@dorothyyoung8231 I love this so much! Ive set up in a large space in my basement, no more putting things away so we can eat supper at the table.

There's at least 5 of those faces in the wall! I sometimes talk to them, thankfully they don't talk back! 😅

I have space but I tend to let it get cluttered. I attempt to tidy up before starting a new project or the next step so I have clear space to work.

Those comic book boards didn't work for me either. I now ruler fold mine and store it in Kallax cubbies. So much quicker and easier!
@proud2bktsmama the comic book boards take forever to fold fabric onto. I do like they way they look though
@@kayla_quilts they look great but my fabric never seemed to make its way onto them.
What is your best piece of advice about setting up a functional quilting room?
