    Death is such an awesome guy. Especially when he's voiced by Christopher Lee.

    Death voiced by Christopher Lee riding a motorcycle...then riding off a cliff into a fiery explosion only to then rock out and axe-smash the guitar so hard it killed the spirit of music itself. Just let that sink in for a moment. Take your time.

    In every DW story and or movie, Death is my favorite character. His true strength is helping souls along, but his best strength is that he does have a ... soul ... of his own, and tries to use it as often as he can get away with it.

    God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of
    His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any
    of the other players [i.e. everybody], to being involved in an obscure
    and complex variant of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for
    infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.
    --- Terry Pratchet

    I don't understand why people knock on the animation so much, it's passable and the team obviously put more of the budget into script, cast and music. It was made by Channel 4 also not the bloody BBC or some other big shot channel.

      +RossOriginals I thought it was meant to be italy ? at least I know Leonard of quirm was modeled off of Leonardo da vinci n since he was italian I figured quirm was modeled after it.

    • @RossOriginals
      @RossOriginals 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      *****
      Leonard is a bit of an anomaly, but the equivalent to Italy in Discworld is actually Brindisi. Quirm is definitely French, everything from the language to the food and even the local police force is distinctly Française.

    • @josephskiles
      @josephskiles 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +RossOriginals What about Klatch that is spose to be france also correct? The klatchian foriegn legion,and the people are always saying " If you will excuse my Klatch" ( I believe Albert is guilty of that the mot in the books)

    • @RossOriginals
      @RossOriginals 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      *****
      Klatch appears to be an Arab/Middle-Eastern region -- Klatchians featured in the books tend to have similar stereotypes to Arabs and Indians, and in the book "Jingo" Ankh-Morpork goes to war with Klatch and so some of the City Watch actually go there -- there's lots of desert, people dress like Arabs, Nobby dresses as a bellydancer, much to everyone's horror, the Patrician wears a Fez, etc.

    • @MaciejBogdanStepien
      @MaciejBogdanStepien 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Klatch is definitely packed up with references to all things French, but it is set up in a Middle-Eastern-ish environment. Quirm, on the other hand, is a cluster of French references in a more Mediterranean-ish setting
      *While cities of Sto Plains are all loosely hinting at a few Polish traits, like fields of cabbage, and, of course "Sto" and "Sto Lat", meaning, respectively "One Hundred" and "One Hundred Years" - the last one is the Polish equivalent of "Bless you" when someone sneezes (In Poland they say "Sto lat" on such an occassion).

      well, mostly scenes with regular characters on the Discworld series. Is not as much as Mr.Bubblebox implies, but a good amount of extra content is missing. Still; the "main plot" is there.

      Taro. reread the book I had it next to me when i watched this it skipped several characters and plot points that would come up again in later books.

      MrBubblebox in terms of Discworld continuity: you're right. In terms of a single movie flick, is quite alright.

      I can't argue with you here, the animation was not up to snuff, but it was still enjoying to watch, even if only to listen to the music they played. I'd love to have a full length soundtrack with all the sone they pay.

    Stealing people's memories and rewriting them with no intention of telling them so they can learn better? No wonder I'm beginning to hate Disc-World.

      Except Imp does make a different choice, and that choice is what set the entire story in motion. By going to Quirm instead of Anch he is embracing his life instead of being of the Music.

    • @r.downgrade5836
      @r.downgrade5836 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never said or ever implied that Imp making his own way rather than have it dictated to him wasn't a noble endeavor. All I made note of was that, last time I checked, mind control was looked upon as an evil, even if the person doing it thinks they're doing it for a really good reason. And having that 'person' be the fabric of your universe after smashing a guitar rather than just having everyone walk away after the guitar was smashed, memories intact, doesn't make it any better.

      No, that's not what Death is doing. Terry Pratchett occasionally refers in the Discworld novels to the tendency of people to rewrite their own memories to fit their perceived reality. The guitar and music had come from one of the alternate universes anyway, and overtook people too quickly. It didn't fit Ankh-Morpork or Discworld reality. Take away the major physical evidence of the past few days -- specifically the band -- and people will forget their own unusual behaviour, especially if it's embarrassing. They'll put it down to dreams, or just deny and forget it.

    This animation is awful. It's like Zelda CGi had been made into a full length feature film.
    The timing is awful, the voice acting barely matches the faces, and everybody is scowling and leering constantly.

      Ah yes. But if you are willing to give a bit, you may come to find that you may like it sometime. Reading the book first always helps in my experience.

      Are you kidding? If anything, that makes it even worse- compare the finale of the book, (spoilers: Death saves the day by playing the only song he can play- the chord that ends the universe- and forcing the Music to un-James-Dean the band so they can stop the ensuing apocalypse) with this rubbish, where he just riffs on the guitar a bit and then smashes it.

      Exactly what I thought. Looks like the same studio that did the Zelda cgi games. But this has glorious writing that makes up for the animation deficits

      @@quelltech That's the eternal problem with books vs films.
      Films are simply too short to put everything from the books into them. And far too often they simply cannot be translated into a movie.
      They have to make sacrifices in order for the movie to work.
      That's why the only the shortest books can be translated into movies and still retain the excellence of the books.
