This is funny as usual. They met with over 100 northern elders. How many elders were met in the South West, South East, and South South?
Since they've started treating the North as the holy cow, they should also listen to them. Nonsense.

I am really praying for this tax reform bill to pass into law. This bill has not only exposed the north lack of desire to generate revenue, rather keep depending solely on federal allocation. It also exposes the governors in general, they dont want anything that would benefit the vulnerable.lsn't it the same governors that hid covid palliatives meant for the people?Governors that hide rice sent from federal for the people, you expect them to be happy the vulnerable wont be paying taxes?Nigerian governors want their citizens to remain poor and vulnerable so they can keep them dependent on them. The governors are the biggest problem in Nigeria. Not until Nigerians start calling out the governors nothing will change.Thank you.

The issue is beyond exposing the governors in the North.. Ask yourself, how has the subsidy removal benefitted socio economic systems of the country. How are the masses benefiting.? The skepticism of these governors are not unfounded.

Dear Mrs. Ayo. Forgive me to say the least that the governors are not actually happy for separating the local government council funds from their control and manipulation due to their greedy and selfishness. These are bunches of failures in all aspects of socio-economic development paradigm shift starting from the first year of their tenure in office to either completing the eight years of election circle or voted out of power. Check their records of administrations, nothing to show for their success but failures. Are Nigerians comfortable with these failed characters, none accountability of their official mandates for the past twenty-five years of socio-economic development policy? For how long shall we as people of Nigeria accommodate these laziness. Rascality and inefficiency in the governance of our commonwealth resources of Nigeria? Where is the Federation system in practice? What are the socio-economic development responsibilities of the governors? Why all the governors are not being held responsible for their stewardship in office? Why are these bunch of failures are allowed to escape accountability for mismanagement of our commonwealth resources?

Dr Abati, i don't think one needs look too far to hazard guess the hidden, unspoken motives for the seeming hostility to the Tax Reform bills from many of the governors, southern ones included (except Lagos & maybe Ogun). Suspicion abounds that some of the nuisance taxes Oyedele proposes to get rid of +/- harmonize, are those States are currently allowed to collect, but don't actually go to the state coffers; rather to private pockets

Democracy is about the people. They elect through elections, and when policy is to come, let everybody be in the know. Not that you sit down somewhere you like, do what you do, then people will hear different story in another place. Do a wide consultant. Simple correction you won't take. When you consult with people, there will be buying in from all stakeholders into your policy.

The hunger and the general inflation must be openly identified by the government and identify the immediate recourse of the major problem in Nigeria today and how the tax reform will give short time and immediate relief to the citizens. The government has put the cart before the horse and hence the lack of support from the general public. Our government must pay attention to the view of the people of Nigeria and there will be manipulation by the few for their own gain.

Let the truth be told, Nigeria system isn't working and needs "a total overhaul as a matter of urgency.
For instance, indigenous people don't operate Presidential system of government. They normally operate Parliamentary and constitutional Monarchy based on common language, culture and heritage.
Presidential system of government is normally used where immigrants have migrated, settled and take over major affairs of their settled land. States or provinces are formed with a central government to manage few areas such as defence, immigration, social security and international affairs.
States creation foisted on indigenous nationalities in Nigeria is an anomaly. Some States ate are productive and feeding those poor States who aren't productive.

This government claimed to have removed subsidies from petroleum, electricity, devalues the Naira, living in opulence, and many more...where are the savings or the gains they promised, not even any of the palliative they promised has been delivered?
And do you think the people will trust them with this tax bill that it's not just to raise more revenue for government and create another federal AlphaBeta company in Nigeria like in Lagos.
Know who's presenting the bill and how much his company is making from tax collection in Lagos before you comment in the future..educate yourself properly and stop disgracing your generation.
