Got my TI-84 PCE when I started high school and it has held up really well with my near-daily use (as well with the various crashes and resets I've invoked). My 85 and 89 do get more general use, but it has been used a lot in classes where the other calcs wouldn't necessarily fit well.
Hi! Sorry to bring up an ancient post, but what are your thought on the 89? I'm thinking of getting an 89 Titanium for undergrad mechanical engineering.
Its been about a year since i got my ti 84 plus (not a ce). Since day 1, ive been experimenting with different games and shells. This summer, i modded a 25mm fan above the processor, giving it air cooling. About 2 weeks ago I took another try at usb8x/msd8x and got both working. I forgot it on the bus on friday (currently sunday) and im hoping my friend or the bus driver found it, really hope one of them found it... Edit: bus driver found it yay
I don't quite understand why you added air cooling to your calculator, but I love it! I really do hope you get your calculator back. Although if someone steals it, it shouldn't be too hard to pick it out if you've heavily modded it. You may want to look into overclocking next. You can get a pretty impressive speed increase (60%) just by using pencil lead.
@@timhorton6502 You'll want to cover R07D with a heavy line of graphite. Be sure the graphite dust doesn't get onto any other components though. I may make a video, but in the meantime it's documented here: wikiti.brandonw.net/index.php?title=83Plus:Overclocking

3:22 I have a new Ti-84 Plus CE and I'm curious, do you reccomend me to find a way to remove the tabs from the slide case? I want to keep the calculator looking new for as long as possible.
Not really, without the tabs the slide case will scratch the entire screen. In your case either getting a carry case or a screen protector would be the best option.
@@TheLastMillennialOh. Thanks for the information. Since I don't want to use a carry case, I think I'll just cling wrap parts of my calculator before putting it into the sliding case.

Hi, just discovered your channel and subbed. I got a question: A bunch of my keys on my CE are very crunchy. Probably some dirt got in there...How would you recommend cleaning the keys? They do not seem to be removable as far as I can see. Thanks! ^^
Thanks mate! It sounds like you'll have to take apart the calculator completely from the back. I made a teardown guide you can follow here: www.ifixit.com/Teardown/TI-84+Plus+CE+Teardown/118886 Once you get to the last step, you'll have to break all the heat melted plastic bits (circled in red) with some scissors or something similar. Once they're broken (make sure the calculator keys are facing DOWN), you can take the PCB off to expose the rubber key membrane. Then you can take the membrane off and access each individual key. When you put the calculator back together, just make sure the PCB holes line up where the plastic bit use to be. Once the calculator is screwed back together you'll never notice that they were broken. Let me know if you have any questions!
How do you know if it's an older or newer model of the TI 84 plus CE? Just bought my son the white one. Just want to make sure it's not an older model. Thank you
Yes! Look at the back of the calculator. To the right of the serial number you'll see a date code. This contains letters and numbers in the format L-0519M or something similar. Could you please tell me what the date code says on his calculator?
Does the Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus CE suffer from bloatware yet? You mentioned connecting to computers and installing "apps". When I think of apps, reason takes my mind instantly to bloatware; in similar fashion to Microsoft Windows, or any andriod phones.
I apologize for the late reply! There's some apps you may not have any use for. But it's all written by TI so I wouldn't consider it bloatware. You can easily delete any app you don't need.
Is it worth to buy this thing for programming and downloadable stuff I don’t need it for school it just looks pretty neat. I could only found a new one for about 130 dollars is it worth it?
It's definitely fun to program and hack but I personally wouldn't pay more than $100 if it's just going to be used for fun. Used calculators are rarely seriously damaged so I'd look for one of them.
Hey dude :D Im looking for helm, final exams are ahead and Im using a Notes program to sneak some formulas into the exam. I heard about the "test mode" and tried it. Obviously notes don't work on it. So here is my question, du you know any way to bypass the Test mode or disable it in class?
Sorry man, you're out of luck. TI has locked down their test mode pretty good. However, most teachers don't even use test mode so it may not even be an issue for you.
You can obviously just not turn test mode on and pretend to look confused and not know what you are doing during the test as not to arise suspicion while at the same time pretending you turned on test mode.
That's not going to fly if he's taking a serious exam. It's pretty obvious if test mode isn't enabled and will get him kicked out of any exam he's taking.
If I used a carrying case that had pockets for accessories but when you close it gets smushed to the calculator, would it hold up okay? I’m planning on not using the sliding cover because it does damage the body
Eventually the stuff getting smushed to the calculator will start to scuff it. You're not going to be able to keep the calculator pristine unless you keep it in a separate case since it's only made of plastic. If you use the case with accessories anyways, I'd suggest facing the screen and buttons away from the accessories so they're protected from most debris.
Really? I found quite a few here: www.cemetech.net/downloads/browse/84pce/basic/games and there's one *really* good one here: www.cemetech.net/downloads/files/1660
Which model specifically? Used is generally the way to go since each calculator model doesn't typically change much over its lifetime. New calculators get you a full warranty however.
Ohh I understand now. I don't own this specific one but this is what you'd want to look for www.amazon.com/Charging-Charger-Micro-USB-Compatible-Tablets/dp/B074DWX9QZ/
That depends very much on your budget an what math course you're going into. If you're on a tight budget, a TI-83 Plus will get you through high school (and maybe even college depending on your major). If you have the budget and you're just doing high school math, I would suggest upgrading to the TI-84 Plus CE since you'll get tons of new features (be sure to get a calculator with OS 5.4.0 or below to avoid TI's recent feature sabatoge) and a significantly faster calculator. If you're doing any sort of math or engineering degree in college, I'd suggest upgrading to something even more powerful like an Nspire or HP Prime.
