Thank you very much for your clear explanation of the textual/critical apparatus! I have the UBS5 but I really wasn't sure how to interact with all that data in the apparatus. This really helped me. Thank you!
What kind of microphone are you using?... your review is very nice and so useful for me but the s sound out of your mic is quite annoying. Can you fix it?
I was using the internal microphone on my camera at that time. I'm sorry to say that I can't do anything about my sibilant 's' sound. I've tried filters and de-essers, but nothing works. Even so, I think the sound quality is somewhat better on my more recent videos.
@@BiblicalStudiesandReviews - I use the UBS5 most often, mainly because of the apparatus. I'm usually interested in the more significant, translatable variants, so I don't open NA28 often. But for reading, I like the paper and print in the Tyndale House GNT.
That's new to me that you find the UBS5 apparatus useful. I find it lacking though in that aspect. It is usually more accessible for me to use UBS5 when I do original language studies since it is less cluttered than NA28. But if I want to look at the apparatus, I tend to look at NA28 more. Btw, I have an electronic copy of both in my iPad.
@13:11 that new theta is an abomination, it's painful!... I was reading the critical notes and wondering what the heck happened to theos? wow, of all the new things to introduce as a change... that is something like a stitch in a new pair of shoes, it hurts until you build up a callous!
@@RGrantJones Hello, you made a great video and communicated clearly. Do you have any advice/counsel for me regarding choosing a Greek apparatus or ones to look into? I have a basic/foundational knowledge of greek and syriac. I can't read greek right now, but I'm still pretty comfortable with an analytical greek lexicon. I'm interested in an apparatus that includes the syriac, vulgate, and coptic. The NA28 is to scholarly for me. The UBS5 looks like one near the top of my research ability. I could still use it for verses that I really want to look into deeper. It would definetely take some time to get used to. Are there any other Greek apparatus that you recommend me looking into? I'm trying to make a wise purchase.
@@briannelson9491 - sorry, but I'm just not that familiar with what's available. I generally use UBS5 myself, because my interest is mainly in variants that affect translations. Because UBS5 does the job for me, I haven't explored further. (By the way, I did receive your email.)
Actually you can 'test' an hypothesis with other verses both in the immediate and extra contextual verses, at least on a theological level. To be sure, I used to be the advocate for 'the shorter reading', 'the more difficult phrasing' , etc. But I believe it's a mistake to throw out any family of texts, even in other languages. There is always something they can contribute.. just wished I learned Coptic.
Thank you for your comment, professor. I didn't realize it went that far back in time. I recently acquired a copy of the Tyndale House Greek New Testament, edited by Jongkind and Williams, and I've already found one passage (Luke 8.45) where Tyndale House overturned a UBS5 {B} reading. It will be interesting to see if Tyndale House replaced any {A} readings.

@@RGrantJones Oh it's ok then... keep working, sir. And hopefully can be blessing to others. Shalom.
Thank you very much, Mr. Jones. Very helpful explanation, particularly the textual apparatus.
My pleasure. I'm happy that you found it useful.
Are there any apparatuses that are interlinear and also translate the variants in-line?
Thanks for the question, Ryan! There may be, but I don't know of any.
And I was one of those shoppers. An extremely helpful video
I think getting rid of the italicized font was wise.
I agree.
R. Grant Jones, do you have a favorite GNT?

Thanks, Brian. Glad it was useful.

@@RGrantJones Got it. Thank you for that very honest answer : )
Great helpful introduction. Many thanks indeed.
please speak up....you can't just whisper into the mic. The signal isn't that strong, otherwise excellent commentary
Thanks: after searching around which one to buy, now I know. Thank you again for your valuable time
It’s bewildering how many options are there! Did you settle on the UBS, then?
@@BiblicalStudiesandReviews Yes I did
I love your sermons

O Famoso texto Eclético. Este sistema aí de certeza ou incerteza (A B C D) criado por Bengel é uma piada esta teoria.
