    never apologize for raining background noise, I loved that!! and I'm so glad that you're transparent about your conversations with other designers and also calling out those that are unwilling to make an extra effort, I wish we'd see more of that from other knitters as well (not just about size inclusivity)!

    For your step father's sweater, knitting stockinette in opposite directios will not show. I've modified several top down sweaters by knitting more on neck to fix the fit and you cannot even tell where I made the transition. Love all of your sweaters and your podcast ! 😍

    Rebecca I’ve been with you since the beginning..what a journey you’ve had!! When I watched you work the Billy sweater, I thought..she’s reached a turning point…she’s surpassed herself!! You went from knit~purl to knit~WOW! Never get rid of that sweater and always look to it as your first of many shinning stars!! Thank you for being a constant in my knitting excursions and a person I strive to emulate. Your enthusiasm is infectious and your loyalty to “ big girl “ knits and our inclusions into the knitting community \designers is exemplary and I appreciate it. Keep on going, girl you are amazing.!! Happy New Year!! Ps I haven’t finished this vid yet so maybe you show it..but remember your step{?}dads fair isle sweater?? There was another major jump in your knitting journey..beautiful work and I remembered how proud I was for you when you finished it. Lol

    I had the same issue as you with the no frills sweater. The neck was just to elastic to support the weight of the sweater. I did a fairly easy fix, using single crochet on the inside of the neck to stabilize and tighten the neck, and i sewed in a elastic in the edge also. After a wash to tighten the rib back up, it looked amazing and now this sweater have been one of my favorites!

    I’ve been watching your channel since almost the beginning, so I’ve seen these…. But I must comment how utterly impressive it is to see them back to back. The Billie sweater and your gift knit colorwork sweater AMAZING! The time and patience (not to mention talent) you’ve put in to all of these! 😮 In my opinion you definitely suit jewel tones… I love that blue on you! If you don’t want to keep the sweater, do another in that yarn combo and wear it! It gives you that glow 😊!

    I love seeing all the wonderful sweaters you have knit. I think the blue is the most gorgeous color on you and seems to fit well. I would undo the bind off of the sleeve cuffs and knit more inches, until you get the length you want. I just undid the bind off of a sweater hem that was too short and made the hem twice as long and it is perfect now. Hope your New Year celebration is great!

    Thank you for sharing all your knits (Part 1)!! I still think your Billy pullover is spectacular. I remember reading somewhere (or hearing somewhere) that cables should never have to be stretched, even though they are generally pretty stretchy. I still love honeycomb cables, but only if they're where they have the ease to be what they are. : ) It was great to hear your thoughts on why certain knits work, and why others don't as well! • @DianaL647
    @DianaL647 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Love part 1, and looking forward to part 2. For your step father's birthday sweater, instead of making the whole ribbed collar wider, have you thought about reknitting it the same width but just adding stockinette rows on the shoulder parts of the opening to get the right opening size? And then knitting the original collar band size. I am thinking if you make the whole band wider it will make the front neck part feel uncomfortable and sit too high (much like the comments you had for other sweaters).

    • @the.creabea
      @the.creabea  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh now that's a fancy idea! I'd need to put some thought into it but I think that could definitely work, it's much wider at the shoulders than the neck sosome short rows would sort it right out!

  • @teresawimbauer8151

    The Billie Sweater is beautiful. You could steek that sweater and turn it into a cardigan. With some decorative rows knit into the front bands you would give it a bit more width across the front. You would then be motivated to redo the cuffs and make them a bit longer and closer fitting.

    @Anne-lv2qg ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Ooh have been looking forward to this! I love all these "Everything I knitted" video's. About your Billie pullover, I think the fit of the neckline may have to do with the fit of the bust. If the bust is too tight, it may sit a little higher than it is meant to, hence the neckline issue. If you can get it to block out, it could fix the neckline issue as well.

    Loved your podcast, subscribed. Really liked to hear why you do or do not wear your makes. Hand knitted sweaters are often more pleasant to knit than to wear and some I made finish at home they just look too hand made !!! Once I found my idéal fit, I therefore always knit the same one again and again, with different colours, fair isle, etc etc and it is a Dream. Best fit for me is the T, from front to back or arm to arm.

    It’s lovely to see all these talked about in detail. The Monday Sweater by petite knit could be a good raglan alternative to the No Frills. It has a higher neckline and a bigger size range. You don’t see many of them, maybe because for some reason the pattern isn’t on Ravelry.

    Love your podcast, so interesting and valuable review of all these styles. I too struggle to get the relight sleeve length....especially in top down styles. I like a wrist length and often find I make them too short and have to frog the ribbing and lengthen. You are such a wonderful knitter but it looks like it’s challenging for you to get the right fit. Simply sizing up doesn’t always work. A very good podcast for fitting sweaters is by Suzanne Bryan ( Off the Cuff #10 Customizing for Various Body Shapes) really love your sweater 1, glorious colour on you and also the Strange Brew.

    Hi Rebecca, thank you for the in-depth reviews of so many beautiful and timeless patterns, really helpful 😊
    I am quite fluent in English but not a native speaker and had quite some difficulties to follow your speed, unfortunately. Plus, I wondered with every single pattern,why you didn’t fix the fitting issues afterwards? It is so easy to adjust the neck opening, or to make sleeves a little bit longer or the cuffs slightly narrower … instead, you decided not to wear several pieces. So much work for nothing? Now, let me say - with my tiny rant behind me - I REALLY do like your channel, your choices of patterns, your absolutely stunning own patterns … 😍

      Okay so I don't know if it's really bad but the thing that works best for me is a disposable razor.
      I use it lightly and just "shave" the sweater in the direction of the knitting. It works so much better than the fancy debobbler that I bought

  • @Lighthouse1852
    @Lighthouse1852 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You're an exceptional knitter! I'm so glad to have discovered your channel.
    I had to say hello just for that spectacular nooh, blurgh, eccchh commentary on Billie at about the 6-min mark. That feeling.
    When you dislike the neckline as you seem to with Crescendo, have you tried wearing a collared shirt or polo underneath to visually manipulate the neckline? I didn't mind how it fit your neck, but feeling good in a garment is important. Love the round yoke "star" pattern. A candidate for a remake with a new yarn.
    On Badger & Bloom, I agree with your queasiness about the designer's size approach and would consider that in the future, but with this piece it would seem wasteful to let an almost-great sweater go unused. I didn't see anything that blocking or a few extra rows of yarn couldn't fix at the sleeves. As for the body, you're right: the color pattern would've lent itself well to enlarging, even just the front half.
    Here's what I'd be tempted to try to improve the fit around the neck and body: inserting a high quality exposed zipper (gray, ivory, or edgy contrast color). Even add a Norwegian-style steek and add a few rows of colorwork in a perpendicular direction down the front?
    Bina V-neck: Very cool color and neck band design treatment! The fit problem is down to the designer. V-necks need to be carefully proportioned to the overall size. This one wasn't re-scaled. The same design could be wonderful on you if you made the V significantly deeper. Maybe also short row bust darts, too, to trim bulk at the sides? You measure out as the median size for an American woman. Any garment designer in the Western world should be able to design properly fit garments to fit your frame perfectly.
    It's always fun to see how other knitters tackle the problems we tend to think are just our own. Oh, felting and pills: thank you for reminding me how much yarn durability matters to long term satisfaction! A "free" or bargain yarn isn't a bargain if 40 hours of labor end up wasted after a few wears. Happy New Year. Keep showing us your treasures.

    I love the Billie sweater on you looks great. I agree on sleeves. I like it so much when you made it I ordered the cascade in same color and bought the pattern, just have not started it yet, hopefully soon I will.
    I also want to make a sweater like no frills but dislike the large neckline, still looking for a good plain raglan sweater.

    Wow Rebbeca! you have done lots this past year. I found your channel like a month ago and I am binge watching from the first episode (alternating when you have a new episode)I like the style of your videos and I love that you knit mostly sweaters and socks. I like to have a pair of socks for when I am in a waiting room or taking my kids to swimming class.
    I personally do not enjoy Instagram. I find it quite overwhelming so It would be great to see the info of your sweaters or designs in other platform. Sometimes I feel like bullied into open IG because it seems that test knits and stuff happened yesterday there😒. Happy New Year🥳

    It shouldn't be a real problem to lengthen the sleeves of your blue sweater. If it is knit from top down you only have to rip out the binding-off-round and add some more centimeters to it. If the sleeve is knit from the cuff up, you can insert a needle above the cuff, rip this out and add a longer cuff.

    • @the.creabea

    With your neck/yoke fit issues have you measured your length from shoulder to top of bust. I'm relatively small busted but wide in my back but I've also discovered I'm short in the shoulder to bust. I often knit one size for the width but knit the length of a size below for the yoke. I find raglan fit me best. That's the good thing about making your own clothes you can get a good fit.

    The color of your The First sweater is stunning. What colors did you use? it's so interesting that knitting your own garments really helps you figure out what you like. I realized that I only like a full length sleeve in sweaters and cardigans that I wear as outerwear. For sweaters I wear as a next to skin layer I only like 3/4 or elbow length since I always push them up anyway 🤣

    I'm curious if you could steek the neckline of the sweater that rides up in the front. I know it will "cut" through the lines of the yoke but it may have an interesting affect when done. You could also knit cut the ribbing off and re-knit to a longer length. I know it has "bad" feelings because of lack of exclusiveness, but I don't believe you should have any responsibility for someone else's behavior. If nothing else, this sweater can be an experiment on making neckline changes.
