I decided to get some second hand Harman Kardon speakers to improve listening experience in my M135i. For the full Hk experience your have to buy the amp, subs, some speakers and lightning cables. At the standard Hi-Fi system the cables are going to your “radio”-system. For the hk you need to install cable from each speaker to the amp. A quick coding amp with the bmw ecosystem pairs everything and wollah.
I already have the hifi system with an amp in the boot. Can I just swap it out for the hk amp plug&play? Coding will be needed obviously.
I’m not sure but I think it won’t work. As far as I know HK is connected to the head unit via optical cable and as Liberte Music said, the speakers will probably have different harness.
@@MDrives HK is analogue in the F2x series sadly...Which is why some people opt to put in the HK amp from the F3x for more clarity/less hissing and no static sound.

Hi. 1. No, simple swap 2 yes, otherwise they won’t sound right 3 yes, with hk set you have tweeters at the back. You can get genuine covers, I decided to modify the ones I had.

Need help. Planning to the front upgrade hk on my 3 door m140i. For 3 doors its just the tweeter right? No surrounds? Also mate. I need the hk main tweeter too im guessing to connect the smaller tweeters? Cheerss
Sorry for not responding sooner. For 3 for you need to buy the triangle speaker cases with tweeters from bmw or eBay for about £99 and you have to buy mid tone hk speakers or splitter cables if you are planning to keep the original speakers.
The speakers you shown look like hi-fi, not harman kardon, nonetheless sound has improved a lot.

I am looking to buy F11 and that has basic speakers, so its a must for me to upgrade.
No It won’t sound the same. You would need to buy amplifier and whole harness as it’s completely different.
Hi thanks for sharing! I followed your tutorial and installed the speakers but I'm getting a white noise coming from the speakers even when the music is turned off. Do you know how I can solve this? How do you know which plug is input/output in the mid range speakers? Thanks!!!!

Awesome job! I'm looking to do the same in my 118D F20 LCI, as the Base system is ridiculous! I've read a lot, and a lot of people say that an amp upgrade is preferred as well. Did your car come with an amplifier already installed?
jacobtc Hi. No I have basic system without amp. Sure it would all work better with external amp as the changes I made, made system only a bit louder but it was all about clarity, quality and sound stage upgrade. If money wouldn’t matter I would go with external amp and run all speaker from amp. But as mentioned in the video, I listen to My exhaust most of the time :)
@@MDrives okay, how did you mod the back shelf for the tweeter?
jacobtc I used dremel tool to cut out a space for it next to the mid speaker. It’s still below that grill so you can’t actually see it. I will try to update my Facebook page in next few days and post some photos as it’s difficult to explain. Bit of a diy. Took me about an hour but saved me some cash.
Will these changes work with a base config without that does not come with an amplifier. I’ve seen your other video when you talk about the different tiers and that hifi and hk come with amplifiers, but not the base setup.

No way. Tweeters would pierce my ears.
Hey man I bought another F22 from Germany. This one is with standard sound though. Some countries have hifi as standard though. So, it is basically a higher standard. So is your standard one the hifi or not the hifi?

As I understand the standard basic woofers below the seats are 6,5” and you can replace them by 8” woofers (plug and play)
Is it worth to upgrade to 8” without an amplifier?

Hi. Sorry but I’m unsure. I have now hifi system in my m2 with smaller amp and 8” woofers and the sound is definitely deeper but I didn’t hear how these woofers work without an amp.
Is the front speakers plug and play with the old cable and you just plug the tweeter into the speaker

Yes. You need splitter cable unless like me you also change mid tone speakers which have in and out.

No external amp in base system. I connected it as it was to head unit.
What’s the part number of the front tweeters u bought from the dealership
9226357 just make sure they say HU or made in Hungary as there are CN speakers out there which apparently are knockoffs

The tweeters, where do they clip into and do they come with the door trim?
If you buy door trim/windows surrounds from bmw they come with tweeters built in. No cutting. It’s plug and play but you have to change mid tone to hk or use splitters from bmw which cost £5 each
Is the wiring there for the door tweeters as you didn't have any from factory?

The tweeters link to the door speaker and come with a cable to do so
To upgrade just the tweeters you need a “y” cable (splitter cable) they are normally supplied when you buy tweeters from Ali express etc but you can get them separately

Yes. Check my other vid I did on my m2. Same speakers. They are plug and play.

Hi I have an m135i 2015. I wanted to upgrade the floor and door speakers. I already upgraded the tweeters as plug and play. Are the door and floor speakers plug and play also?
The door speakers are. I think you have to change plugs on subs.

@@nuribayindirlioglu1312 from what I read you can't, it doesn't have the port to get power, you'll need to buy a splitter but the whole sound balance will be off. Easiest to buy the HK door speakers with your tweeters
@@aikakira are you sure that the balance will be off, i just ordered some splitters so i dont need to change the speaker :/
@@nuribayindirlioglu1312 I'm pretty sure, read lots into before about how if you use the base head unit its tweaked to compensate for the missing tweeters so when you use the splitter you'll get overpowering sound. Also there was another TH-cam video of someone doing the splitter route and you get white noise as well. Since you have the splitter ordered I would be interested to know if this is the case! Please let us know!
Hi, I bought a 2 series f22 with basic system, I can't see any amp in the boot on the left side. Can I still upgrade speakers like you have done in the video? Or did you add an amp? Many thanks.
Hi. I didn’t have an amp too. Watch my other video as it’s better to use hifi tweeters which are cheaper and are softer than HKs
@@MDrives so, basically I upgrade to the hifi tweeters and the HK door speakers and rear speakers too. Am I right in saying I then don't need an amp

Sparky t yes. Log in to BabyBMW forum and go to sponsors and to BMW Cotswold section. Ask for a quote. They were about £138 last year for a pair.
FamilyDriver the standard trim doesn’t have a speaker does it so where does the H&K speaker wire plug into
Sparky t the tweeters connects to mid HK speakers in the doors. Mid tone HK speakers have in and out so it’s plug and play.

I bought an full oem hk set but the door speaker connectors wouldn’t come off? Did u struggle with yours, not sure what to do next.
Mr Swoosh I did struggle a bit. Took me 10 minutes to take it off. I used very small and slim screwdriver to help it a bit.
FamilyDriver I tried using tweezers but a small piece of the blue connector broke, on the Harman all the connectors are smooth and come on and off easily so I’m not sure why they’re stuck, I tried for about 20 ish minutes but nothing changed

The rear speakers are near c pillar, not in the rear doors.

If you have basic speaker system like I did, there’s no external amp.

If you replace mid speakers to HK, they have splitter in them. You connect tweeters to mid speakers.

You have to buy y splitter cable. They cost about £6 on eBay. I have 2 for sale for a £10. I’m also working on a nee video now as I found better solution. Hifi tweeters from f3x work much better with base/hifi systems. They are not as harsh and ear piercing like hk.

Completely off topic but it is strange to hear a eastern european sound a little Liverpudlian in their accent. At 1:00 you proper had a scouse accent on them words you said. You must've lived in the UK for a while to sound like that.
