The Move, Electric Light Orchestra and Wizzard. Roy Wood has been influential in all of these bands. From the 60's through the 70's to the 80's and beyond. an absolute legend, and still performing today 2021. look forward to seeing Roy and his band performing at Cheltenham Town Hall in the near future.

Genius is a word thrown around like confetti imo. This is influenced by medieval English music. Classical Bach. Beatles. Beach Boys. They're the only ones I can think of, off the top of my head. It's a lovely song.
@@steffanhoffmann8937 agreed - This is one of the first singles that I ever bought - on the green coloured 'Harvest' record label - I still have it - real English mediaeval sound - compare Roy's talent to the useless button-pressing - drum-looped - auto-tuned - rubbish musicians of the 2000s
Its always been my favourite too. I'm not sure what the special allure is given roy wrote so many great songs it just grips me & fills me full of nostalgia like no other song.

Wow, I just heard this song today. What a lovely, lovely song and the high notes. I heard it on a program that broadcasts radio stations around the world and this was playing on a UK station. I heard only about a quarter when I looked at the phone to see the name and who was performing it. Unfortunately, when I put the phone back down, it move the station to another and I could never find it but I had the name and the singer which lead me here.
Only heard this song for the 1st time about a week ago. Every time I hear it it grows on me much more. 1st time I heard it I thought it was a strange song. But the more I hear it the better it gets. Don't hate me.
"Boulders" was one of my very first albums that I bought on vinyl. Then I had to buy it when cd's came out.....and then the remixed version with bonus tracks....Ha! It's always been a favourite and this track in particular. Always liked Roy Wood's stuff (The Move, early ELO, Wizzard & Solo) but in all my years I don't think I've ever seen this video before. So thanks very much for posting it. A real pleasure to see it.
I know full well who this song was dedicated to.. To a young 😍 of Roy wood named Elaine griffin.. I was helping her sister out with training/walking her dog. (for free)... Won't take 💵 off seniors... She's still alive by the way.. In her early 60s now.
Once of the best songs and videos from a true talented master. I live in America and whenever someone mentions Roy Orbison around me I have to mention Roy Wood, then I get a blank look. Jeff Lynne could rave about both. Elaine was my mother's middle name.
Song from a fantastic album on Harvest record label. Roy wood was so underatted a talented musician . Loved the lyrics. Oh to go back to that time of innocence.
Long before I became a DJ : I read a review of this album Boulders by Roy Wood; and it got it's well deserved 5 stars! Now that I have Wkarma Radio with maribeth stern on TH-cam and Facebook I plan on turning my many listeners on to this man"s genuis!

@@philiposborn8527 I think that the remaining members of the Move should have some praise. Carl Wayne - You're a Star (basically the only good one) Bev Bevan - the 2nd album of ELO part ii is the closest thing reminisce of the first ELO album Roy Wood - his Wizzard albums, Boulders and Mustard Despite all of their solo efforts, none (perhaps apart from Bevan) will ever even touch no.1 of any charts since Blackberry Way.
Fantastic song. The instrument played on the song sounds like a mandolin, but the instrument Roy Wood is holding in the video is a lute, which is bigger than a mandolin and makes a deeper sound.
People used to comment on how ELO were like a continuation of The Beatles sound, and you when you join all the threads with Jeff Lynne working at Abbey Road and Roy Wood producing this solo gem, you can certainly hear those roots based firmly on that style. Most enjoyable. PS. John Lennon was a fan of Roy Wood and George Harrison was a close friend of Jeff Lynne.
+clinton hey Yeah, this should be in the top 2 or 3 best Roy Wood songs, but it seems to have gotten less notice. Somehow this, and Mr. Crowley by Ozzy never get old on me. I've listened to both for ages and still won't hesitate to stick them in a playlist.
I was engaged to a wonderful young lady called Alaine at the time this record came out in the UK, this was one of our songs. Sadly she went off with my "best" mate. They married and are now divorced. She remarried.
This is such a good track that I feel compelled to point out, for those who are interested in the lyrics, that all the well-known lyrics sites seem to have made an error. It's not God that wears a sallow face, but "Dark". The error is understandable: "dark" might sound like "God" if "God" is said with an American accent. But Roy Wood is British, and English English uses a much rounder vowel sound for the 'o' in "God". This matters, I suggest, as rather than invoking the irrelevant "god", Roy is experiencing that common feeling that, as night falls, sadness is so much closer in memory. Hope that helps.
I remember this from the early 1970s but only reason I remember this record is I was going out with a bird called Elaine at the time. Roy Wood made some much better records with Wizard & The Move But this particular track brings back so many happy memories wish I could go back to then.
This arguably is the best of Roy Wood...a sadly underrated talent...possibly one of the best songwriters this country has ever produced, without a doubt
Great comment. I 1000 percent agree, Roy is certainly top draw as is Jeff Lynne.
Roy wood is a talented multi musician genius one of the best in the Uk probably ever alongside his old counterpart Jeff Lynne.
See the 10538 overture.

The Brilliant Roy Wood.
Notice the statue frozen into a form of longing, and the song reflects this yearning. A brilliant talent, Mr Wood.

Thoughts that once remained discreet
Fall like servants at your feet
Ahhh, ahhhh, ahhhh
Come here, Elaine
Please attend to the pain
Please relieve the darken clouds of evening
Prayers I could say
How you swept them all away
I can't believe
You chose to leave
Dawn that wears the sallow face
Seems to put me in my place
Ahhhh, ahhhh, ahhhh

Will it still be the same?
Now the house of spirit crumbles
For your love wears many gowns
Love has risen
It has stumbled
