The Cathedral of Our Lady of Antwerp is also a World Heritage Site (its tower is one of the Belfries of France and Belgium). I think it’s beguinage is also a world heritage site

I think the painting at 22:55 is from Pieter Brueghel the younger.

Lovely video, maybe you could make a similar video about Rotterdam, Amsterdam or maybe even Delft?

I am from the region. I live in Wuustwezel, can you find it? 25 km to the north of Antwerp. I am astonished and perplexed that Antwerp would have profited from slave trade. So you got me googling and this seems to fall back on the so called Williams thesis which says that slave trade made early capitalism flourishin the usa, which delivered cheap products to europe, through seafare that used largely Antwerp as a trade harbour. BOUM, all of a sudden Antwerp was involved in slavery. I think this is far fetched and indeed, the Williams hypothesis is, as a bit of googling learnt me, considered as controversial. Anyway, it is certain that europe did profit little from slave trade and moreover, resistance against it origined from europe as early as the 18 th century, resulting in slave trade being forbidden as from 1800 by the English, and in the next decennia throughout europe, and finally in the usa 65 years later. Stating that Antwerp profited from slavery or slave trade therefore appears to me very much like a far fetched guilt by association, and even conspiracy theory like approach to Western history. For the rest I absolutely enjoyed your content.

I mean true. From what I understand Brussels was the one that benefited from slave labor the most, but that wasn't from the slave trade, it was the Belgian Free State in Congo. Not so much Antwerp.

Yes, that was a totally different issue with King Leopold 2 who ran Congo as a personal winregion. Many atrocities were conducted at that time.
