  • Cheri and the panel Melissa Barker, Laura Hedcock, Shelley Murphy, and Mary Kircher Roddy welcome Angela Walton-Raji to tell us about her new book: Oklahoma Freedmen of the Five Tribes:.
Watch as Angela shares the story that is not being told in history. It's the story of a people enslaved by what is called the Five Civilized Tribes and brought to Oklahoma Territory either before or during what we know as "The Trail of Tears.
Over decades of studying the records, history, and social context of these people, Angela has gathered stories of those who, through genealogical research, discover that they are descendants of the Freedmen of the Five Tribes or from those whose family stories of being descendants of the Freedmen of the Five Tribes. has been passed down through the generations.
Thank you to Anglea for her work in researching the lives of these people and getting their long-lost stories told. Our ancestors want to be remembered. Some have a special gift to answer the call. One of these is Angela Walton-Raji.
Do you have family stories to tell about the Freedman of the Five Tribes?
Anglea would love to hear from you.
Thank you so much for watching.
We appreciate your comments and giving us a thumbs up!

My grandmother said my grandfather(profile pic)was part Syrian through his mom Laura Menzies because she was lightskinned and had long hair that she always wore in a Crap aka Long braid but turns out through Dna and the paper trail she had deep Scottish roots going back too John Anderson b.1750 who owned multiple plantations in Jamaica and his wifes family who most likely had European roots in Jamaica going back since the first English conquest of 1655 as far as I’ve been able too trace

The cherokee consists of 13 nations and among them are the seminole of florida as well as the shinokocke , chocktaw and chickasaw. The lost tribal nation that was lost but now found are a certain branch and or stock in african american culture. So there is native american culture within the african american population.

Any descendent of 'Ingram' (Ingraham) in the Indian Territory (Pickens and Marshall County), please reply to my comment. Manda was a freedwoman but her husband Simon was a US citizen. Simon's brothers Alfred and Mark were also US citizens.
