Al was creative, funny, played the drums, loved Ford Mustangs and loved thriller films and TV shows. He is an amazing brother and influenced me so much. I grew up appreciating music (the drums), Twilight Zone, Stephen King, Outer Limits, Hitchcock. My Mother loved all kinds of music; she and Al shaped my love of music and film.
I watched this as a kid too. Shoot my parents raised me on horror movies! At three years old I LOVED the 90s version of Night of the living dead, and could quote the entire movie haha. I loved my childhood and wouldn't trade it for the world. Kinda feel bad for the crap kids have to watch these days 🤷🏻♀️
RIP Julian Sands, who played Nick Hardaway in this series. He disappeared on January 13, 2023 when he went hiking alone in the Baldy Bowl area of the San Gabriel Mountains in Southern California. His remains were found on June 24, 2023, and he was positively ID'd and officially pronounced dead this afternoon, on June 27th.
I think the fact the miniseries aired on a large network in a popular time slot made it possible for many young kids to watch, myself saw it when I was a kid and some of the visuals spooked me and somehow remained with me for years. I'm glad I found it on DVD later because I appreciate it for different reasons now.

The other Stephen King movies I saw was IT, 1408, dreamcatcher, some episodes of kingdom hospital (I was young at this age), watching the dead zone series currently, salem's lot, storm of the century, etc. And anything else currently that Stephen has written or done in tv/movies. I hope they make a documentary on him or something.

You immersed in the story... such rare gems in a world over saturated by entertainment, such a true delight and a rare diamond to be found in the deep dark depths of a hollowed out coal mine of cinema these days.

Stephen King even tried playing this off like it was based on actual events. He even made a fake documentary about the many disappearances over the years in the house that came out after the movie did. I saw it and it actually seemed real! There was also a prequel made allegedly based on the diary of Ellen Rimbauer. All in all, King did a good job with this one. He had a lot of people fooled at first. Lol. Good movie!
He also tried to make it seem like he came up with the concept on his own. This was his attempt at a loose reimagining The Haunting (1963) which was adapted from the book The Haunting of Hill House (1959)

I thought I had made a huge mistakes as I was scared that my DVD player would reject it. Then, to my enormous relief, my father told me that the Swiss don't require regional coding on their DVDs. Since my copy is Swiss-made, it plays on anything regardless of where the DVD player came from! Whew, dodged a bullet that time.

I saw this when I was 20 when it came out. I was petrified because I never was one for scary movies, but then I watched the Behind the scenes once I got it, and never got scared of it again. Plus it had those early 2000 special effects so it's not very scary watching it now. I bought the book of the Diary of Ellen Rimbauer right after it came out, and watched the made for tv movie of the diary, and now I have all three because i found the movie at a local movie rental place that was going out of business.
This miniseries was better than I expected so I bought it on DVD. Am saddened to hear Julian Sands died in a tragic hiking accident. Rest in peace and thank you for the memories Mr. Sands.

Ok. That's really weird. I'm from Russia and somehow I watched it when I was a kid too. And I liked this series. I mean I would be watching it over and over again back then.
And then I forgot this series ever existed.
And just now I've got a spark of memory. I'm quite surprised to see so many comments with similar experiences.
This Movie scared me deeply as a Kid. No other Horror Movie stuck in my Head like this.
Rose Red is one of my top 5 all time. I used to watch this alllll the time! Do yourself a favor and watch it. Dr. Joyce Reardon is that girl! Loved seeing KJB make the jump from Disney to this. Rock on 🤘

I had a faint memory of watching this as a kid. I loved the greenhouse but I couldn't remember the name of the movie. Searched "possessed house with greenhouse movie" and finally ended up here where I see all of you are also reminiscing on how frightened you were the first time you saw it.

FUN FACT: This miniseries was said to be loose remake of the Haunting (1963). Even the line at 1:30 is same tagline of the 1999 "remake" of the Haunting.
