To be fair to Catherine until David rocked up nu who credits designer thought the character was called Doctor Who. Fun fact: Chris Ecclestone is the only Doctor to be credited as “Doctor Who” and never “The Doctor” on the show.
That’s not true at all. The actor was always credited as Dr Who until the Peter Davison era, at which point it changed to ‘The Doctor’. It switched back for Series 1 of NuWho and then Tennant requested they switch it back.
Whereas you are correct that “the doctor” credit does not start until logopolis (I had thought leisure hive, so I have learned something) on the 5 doctors all previous doctors get a “the doctor” credit (including Hartnell) Ecclestone therefore remains the only one to be credited solely as “dr who”
When I get sad, and I often do during this horrible pandemic which is not like any post apocalyptic books I've ever read (ok, maybe Alas, Babylon, but noone remembers that these days) I remember that David Tennant and Catherine Tate exist in the world. And that makes me happy.
