The biggest problem is the selection bias in the process of choosing which historical events that represent novelty. They tend to be eurocentric and of course geo/anthropocentric. Also, novelty as a concept is poorly defined.

Maybe he never really came back from that massive mushroom trip. I really enjoy his talks regardless because he does have a great way of articulating his ideas. He was just a stream of consciousness in all its authenticity perfectly imperfect.
