    Thank you, for almost $600, C4 shouldn't have this many issues. I was 5 minutes from buying it because I thought it had to be the best.

    FYI, the next time you need to remove that much glue. Amazon sells eraser wheels. Literally what it sounds like, a huge #2 pencil eraser in the shape of a wheel that you attach to a drill. Removes all sticky stuff and stickers without damaging the paint in seconds.

    Two notes:
    1. I found the top mount (the “hook” closer to the middle of the hatch) makes slight contact with the roof portion of the 4Runner. Not a big deal and shaving the edge slightly eliminated it.
    2. Installing the rotopax at the bottom of the ladder will make the hatch much harder to open (especially with stock struts). Putting it up higher helps but then you compromise rear window visibility. I didn’t need to replace the stock hatch struts for just the Greenlane ladder but it would be a good idea if you install the rotopax.

      You may have slightly miss placed the ladder, or didn’t pull it on all the way. There should be no contact with the roof.
      Also with the rotopax I do have upgraded struts, so the placement doesn’t bother me. But all depends on your personal preference. You will definitely need to upgrade your struts with the rotopax, but not if you are running the ladder and that’s it. With the C4 ladder I had to upgrade the struts, and that wasn’t even with a rotopax.

    Great install and review. Looks to be the best overall ladder option out there. Any interference when hatch is open with the ladder and tent? Ive got a Thule box in the middle and was wondering if ladder would clear it.

      Thank you! I would definitely agree with that.
      And no interference with anything up top.

    So a more honest review is to point out the fact that:
    1.) This is the V1 which yes, it is known for rust issues.
    2.) C4 redesigned this ladder because of this issue which now sells a V2 clearing this issue.
    3.) This is rather C4’s choice of powder coating than the ladder material itself, but back to point #2. If persists, then fair.
    Overall a simple remedy is to treat the ladder for anti rust yourself which one should do with anything exposed to the elements.
    Nice build nonetheless cheers.

    Doesn’t top metal plate need foam padding? Looks like it will cut into your paint in few months

    • @heradventurelife
      @heradventurelife  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 3m tape is a foam tape so it has cushioning between the plate and hatch.

  • @Treetopflyer777

    Mine arrived today. It had two black foam strips that were floating around in the box. They have sticky adhesive on one side. They were attached to the ladder somewhere but no idea where they belong. They’ve clearly fallen off in transport. Any idea? Did yours have 2 foam strips attached to your ladder anywhere? THX

    • @heradventurelife
      @heradventurelife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So each part that hooks onto the hatch (the top and bottom) you put the foam pieces there. I had actually misplaced one of mine, but the other is installed on there.

      @@heradventurelife thx!
      I only have two strips of foam. Wouldn’t be enough to go on the top and bottom. Each piece is about 1.5-2” long. Should there be more?
      Thx for the reply

    Is there a weight difference between the two companies?

    • @heradventurelife
      @heradventurelife  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Greenlane’s weighs only 8lbs. And the c4 has got to be 15+ easily!
      Massive difference

    • @heradventurelife
      @heradventurelife  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joegideon6730 thank you! Definitely nice to save the weight wherever you can.
      And those specs are General Tire Grabber X3s 295/70/17 with Black Rhinos -18 17x9.5

    Wow. That’s some awful rust issues. Their website says its steps and main construction are made from aluminum. But your video shows otherwise.
