Hi, first of all I absolutely adore that you guys are giving back to the community! My name is Kiara Brown. I am 19 years old African american and I am studying at UNLV(University of Nevada, Las Vegas) to become a nurse. I am the first to attend college in my entire family. My mom has a autoimmune disease called Lupus. Since I could walk and talk I would help her get out of bed, get her medicine, clean the while house and cook for me and my 4 younger siblings. So I basically started my nurse career at 9. I know struggle, I’ve lived it and I’m still going through it everyday. I’m hardworking with a full time job and I’m a full time student. Im currently a sophomore at UNLV and I am extremely passionate about helping people and giving back. Recently my mom and I have got kicked out of our house and were homeless. We barely got enough money to move into a small cheap apartment in Las Vegas. Also recently my cars engine blew and it cost 3000$ to fix and I just don’t have enough to fix it so I junked it. Now Im carless in Vegas trying to be something. I want to be an example on my 4 siblings, I want to make my mom proud and get her out of the struggle. Where I come from college isn’t an option, a career is rare. Im trying to set an example for my entire race, people of color, people who look like me and know about the struggle. I’ve never had anything handed to me, so this would be a literal miracle.
