- A police cordon remains in place around a burnt out vehicle on Friday after a night of violent disorder in a Leeds suburb.
West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin condemned the “violent and thoughtless actions” in Harehills, east Leeds, adding that “such criminal behaviour will not be tolerated”.
Vehicles were set on fire and a police car was overturned as residents were warned to stay at home on Thursday night, with a large police presence and helicopters deployed to the area.
Political commentator Russell Quirk joins Talk’s Alex Phillips to discuss this further.

Having a British Passport does not make you British. It makes you a British citizen. These are different things. The British people should have the right to withdraw citizenship from people who are not British and who damage the British way of life. I have never had any issues with the authorities or the native British people. On the contrary, I have been treated with respect and have good friends among them. It’s simple: no matter what nationality or ethnicity you are, once you are here, you must follow the rules and laws of this country, and no one has a problem with you just because you are of a different nationality or have a different skin color. Regardless of what happened there, you cannot justify behaving like a brute, setting a bus on fire, or overturning a police car just because you feel wronged. That is called anarchy, and you have no place in a democratic society if you act like that.

Problem is in the culture, for the citizens born in Uk, it's NORMAL to obey the police, the council, to accept everything the law imposes them. For the foreigners also europeans, you can't arrive with a police patrol and steal the children from the parents just like that. The other cultures it's NORMAL to first go to the Tribunal and then establish what to do.
