Chapter VI - Coda
Tenshii's eyes widened slightly at the familiar features beneath Shadow's hood.
"You're... me. How cliché."
Shadow tilted their head in correction. "Kind of, not quite -- more like a part or aspect of you, to be honest, instead of some interdimensional time traveler sort."
Tenshii frowned a little in confusion. "What part of me?"
"I am the Timekeeper of your past, present, and future."
"...still cliché."
Shadow laughed.

Tenshii looked out at the unfamiliar surroundings. The land was quite barren but covered with snow, somewhat reminiscent of where she'd visited in the past. "I still don't get how we got here, but I'd really rather not take that same path again."
Shadow nodded sagely in understanding. "It was a long and harrowing process that you can look back on, but not something you have to revisit."
"So... what now?"
Shadow snickered a little at Tenshii's awkwardness. "It's time for this chapter to end and for you to move forward into the next part of your journey," they replied, gesturing towards the expanse in front of them.
"But there is no Path ahead?" Tenshii stated aloud to herself. The snow, while falling invitationally, covered any prior trodden routes by previous travellers. "Is it really okay to stray off into the unknown on my own now?"
"Isn't that what you've been doing this past while on your quest?" Shadow shot back deftly. "Experimenting, making new memories, traveling through different worlds with only your staff as a guide -- and even then, it's really like Dumbo's feather, because that was all you.
"Don't be afraid of the Pathless way, Tenshii -- and no matter what life throws at you, I'll always be with you to keep your Time for you."
Tenshii stilled, pondering the words. "Truly?"
Shadow snorted. "I couldn't lie to you even if I wanted to, mate."
Tenshii laughed and let out a long breath, eyes blinking open in resolute determination. "Together, then?" Tenshii asked, grasping her staff firmly and stretching out her other hand towards Shadow.
Shadow smiled, took Tenshii's hand, and disappeared.
