Verona Murphy is really brilliant and takes no shit or filibustering
She is good but she mixes up policy and administration at times and also seems to overlook prevailing wage levels in the economy....The Sec Gen does not control operational matters. EG pay levels are a problem ....how many helicopters have we? Pay scales are inadequate but these are set by the Government, not the Sec Gen.
Deputy Verona Murphy knew her role on the committee but the Sec Gen of DOD didn’t know hers or any pertinent facts about how many aircraft we had & why was only 1 available. She said 8000 applied to join & hadn’t an answer on that either. She thinks she’s equivalent to a NATO civilian chief - she’s an empty dress 😮
@@johndublin12 Civil servants are not responsible for operational matters on helicopters , logistics etc , neither do they set pay levels they implemet Govt policy and their remit cannot stray beyond that.

It's about time that DoD is brought to heel. More of this type of questioning is required of the Civil Servants employed in this department. BTW as NO Full Time Minister has been in place this situation will continue to deteriorate. It is blatantly obvious that this current Sec of DoD appears incapable of running this department. Well done to Deputy Murphy for such inquisitive questioning.
She is the secretary General of the Defence forces meaning she is the Boss of the Minister for Defence and the Chief of staff and this is what the problem is in Ireland, not understanding who is running the country. They are never held accountable because they have puppets in front of them like. Government's and CEO'S of State Official Offices ie HSE, GARDA COMMISSIONER, City Council and so on.
Pay and pensions... Very simple, the best and brightest electronic engineers, aircraft technicians and pilots etc leave every year and step into jobs that immediately pay 10-50k more... Soldiers are payed so little they don't evem esrn enough to apply for "affordable" housing
Promotion based on technical ability rather than the ability to carry a backpack for 26 weeks.There are some Donkeys in charge,not all,of lads that are much more technically proficient than they will ever be.

8,000 applications? Utter bullshit. If that was the case the current strength of the DF - even taking in account a 50% loss rate through failure in medicals/fitness tests etc would mean that the DF would be fully manned across all areas and still have a backlog of people waiting to join. This isn't the case. From application to offer can (in some cases) take over 2 years. This comes about because of background checks taking an eternity to complete, getting recruits/cadets in place for training, medicals, fitness tests etc - all takes time. Even the recruitment in the Reserves takes an eternity - some waiting for over 2 years just to get an offer!? Utterly ridiculous. The DoD need to get their heads out their arses.

One big problem in this country is that the wrong people get these jobs, there related to tds or they know right people in right places, coveney in rte one example, get rid of the politics and hire the right people that can do the job,
There gonna just hire them now on a dei.
The DOD is an embarrassment.Working groups,reviews,changing structures,diversity,recruitment,poor pay and working conditions for enlisted people.That woman is head of the comedy of errors.
In the Recesses of our nightmares, Reality and hallucination intertwine blurring the boundaries of sanity life is like a helicopter but i dont know how to fly a helicopter get to the chopa 🤔
Verona is remorseless, but I think in this case, yer wan wasn't a spoofer.
