Hawa Dramé - Niongomari (Mali, late 80s)

Of course this is from Mali. Malian diva Hawa Dramé delivering a haunting performance accompanied by two separate stringed instruments: an n'goni and a guitar (though the overtones on the n'goni sometimes make it seem like there is one more stringed instrument there). It's songs like these that make me wonder why rock and roll bands don't try to cover or at least adapt this music -- with its killer combination of sinister rhythm and serpentine melody.
