Got this on VHS in 1993. Then, I just fast forwarded to Jimi's performance. But today, I'm watching the whole movie and I get it. This was a glimpse into 1970. An earlier time, a VERY DIFFERENT America.

The Jimi Hendrix Estate released Live in Maui Box Set on 11/20/2020, which contains the complete show on LP, CD, and DVD. The DVD has all of the audio and all available video fragments. There also an additional DVD documentary where Billy Cox tried to distance the band from the theatrical film but keep in mind that this is Billy Cox’s opinion, we’ll never know what Jimi’s opinion was. But Billy Cox does provide entertaining insight into the shenanigans surrounding the movie.
This film can be summarized as one needs to find their own spiritual path. At times there seemed to be interesting points however either because of cross-talk and poor audio production and/or audio degradation over time, some of the conversation is hard, if not impossible to clearly hear.
I think the idea of the movie is solid, the execution, as others have noted, is dismal. But if you have never seen it then it is worth a one time watch.

This was fantastic! Thank you! I had not seen this in years....I used to have Rainbow Bridge on VHS in the early 80's, but lost my copy and have not seen this again until now. I remembered watching Jimi's concert footage back in the day and I had forgot how much great film footage there was of him performing. This upload is truly a treasure for Hendrix fans. I own the Blue Ray release of Hendrix Live in Maui from 2020, but Janie Hendrix and the Hendrix estate cut out some of the great filmed portions of him doing his magic on guitar. On the Live in Maui release, it has a caption when the film cuts out with only audio "Cameras stopped working." I call BS now, since the original film has it all right there, no "camera stopped working" here....Thank you for uploading this! Amazing! And thank you for all the work bringing it to us, dealing TH-cam, etc.

The concert footage used in the film was approx 17 mins and was cut quite a lot in places. Unfortunately the cameras that were filming the concert were running on one generator; which also powered the amps and sound stuff. For whatever reason the cameras did fail over and over. That has been talked a lot over the years in books like Setting the Record Straight. We are lucky with what we have got in the video and audio. Now, also the JH estate still might have some minor cuttings left, but not both wonderful sets in there complete celluloid glory....unfortunately.

On July 4th 1976 I saw the Full Theatrcal Release of this movie in the Villiage in NY, In that version that astrologer sat down with Jimi Hendrix and read his horscope chart too. Then they actually flashed his horoscope chart on the movie screen and it showed he was 5 Degree Capricorn Rising Sign. That scene was NOT in this version. They cut it out of the movie and all the DVDs..One year before I had read an astrology book that used that same chart. Jimi Hendrix gave that astrologer his birth information himself, so it was correct.
Jimi had an amazing chart it showed he was indeed a cosmic being, This was because his Sun sign had close contact with all three of the higher octave body outer planets Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.
This explains the cosmic energy he channel through his music. .Very few music artists have that connection. The other artist that had close contact with two higher octave planets Neptune, and Pluto was Michael Jackson. Artist with those planetary contacts always give out this cosmic enegy that tranforms mass consciouness. I always wondered why they would cut that secne out of th movie? When I saw Jimi's chart flash across that big screen like that, it changed my life

      @@curbozerboomer1773 Great observation.
The entire generation (mine) saw all the pollution (Lake Erie caught fire? Piles of white powder dumped in the neighbor's woods?) and hyper-judgemental attitudes (the Beatles haircut made them - what, disposeable ? 😂) and so we rebeled, at the same time women could take a pill to avoid pregnancy and airfare became accessible to young adults.
Exploration by immature brains! 😂 Jimi died around the age our brains mature, something recently proved by science yet known for almost 100 years by the car insurance industry.😅
Jimi remains unmatched at improvisation and stage show with guitar, though Prince comes close.
Recently I've got this idea that ❤❤ Mayara Lima ❤❤ does something similar in dance, endless beautiful improvisation.

The worst of the worst except for the Hendrix footage. "Did you know the space people have already made their way to the US!?" and the hollowed out surfboard. Drug use does not necessarily equate to creative genius. Jimi wasn't into this elitist bs scene it was just another gig and he was passing through. He also smoked DMT before the encore of this gig and plucks harmonic fragments of new inter-dimensional phases of consciousness out of the air like he's peelin' a string cheese so I dunno maybe but maybe your favorite rock guitar player was crazy and weird too!

An absolutely dreadful movie notable only for the footage of Jimi at the end. Before the advent of home video when you could only see it in theaters you had to sit thru an hour and a half of hippy psycho babble (which I did more than once) just to see Jimi. I have seen people get up and walk out 30 minutes in saying "This is bullshit man" as they left. After it was available on VHS and later DVD I never saw the movie again. When I hear the title RAINBOW BRIDGE, I think of a great Jimi Hendrix album (8 songs, released posthumously). I try to forget that this unwatchable film even exists. Appreciate you putting the effort into your upload...I'm not slagging on you. But the only footage worth watching from this film is Jimi's concert...and that's now been released in a high-definition, 5.1 surround restoration...MUCH MORE concert footage than the 20 or so minutes this film gives you. It's not necessarily an accurate representation, but movies like this really make "hippies" look like nothing more than self-absorbed bums during a time in which there was a lot of bad happening in the world (which is still true today).

I pretty much deleted it all from my mind and this brought it back again, and I still think, WTF is this ? I know I have seen more Jimi concert footage than this, I remember there was this one dreamy hippy chick, spaced out on acid and the camera zoomed on her for like a minute, she locked eyes with the camera while grooving to Jimis music and I was mesmerized, wanting to go back in time and get me some stoned hippy tuna ,, That part was no where to be seen here, also there were parts where the video cut out completely but the audio was still there.

Too bad jimi didn't write more music during this time to contribute more to the soundtrack. Get rid of the viet nam political crap and stick to the early funk vibe. Trying to figure out which version of Hey Baby is this at the beginning of the concert. Two were played that day, for two whole separate sets. the distributed versions are not the one played in the movie. Very cool tune

    • @richtakings3359
      @richtakings3359 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The Hey Baby played on the white Strat is from the first set, but the not the first song of the set. It segues into, In from the Storm. The intro for Hey Baby on this version still wasn't completely included in the Maui sets most recent release, I think Jimi messed it a little or it was damaged; were talking the first few seconds here, most of the intro is there. The audio for those first few seconds does exist, someone put it on YT a while back.
The second version is towards the end of the 2nd set played on his custom Gibson Flying V. Nice mellow intro, elements of "The New Rising Sun" instrumental in there. That is what we see at the end where Jimi is faded out into the back drop of Maui's volcanic crater. He never completed the play through in the 2nd set as he broke into "Midnight Lightning" then into "Race with the Devil". Finishing the set with a drum solo from Mitch, sub-par Stone Free and Hey Joe.
I myself wondered about that version at the end after watching Rainbow Bridge years ago, "Did he finish the song? I want to hear the rest of it !! " I thought. But where it fades in the film is pretty much where Jimi just breaks into Midnight Lightning.
Too bad the studio version wasn't fully completed, he would have added overdubs and all sorts. It would have been an even grander masterpiece than it already is. He was heading to the US to complete the album in the coming weeks, starting late Sept 1970. Sadly never happened.

It's cool to see Jimi kicking back. Looks like he was having a little fun with the Brotherhood even if they were acting a little pretentions or philosophical when they could have been being a little more wise and real. Some bullshit like that. Man, I wish Jimmy would have been with us a lot longer. Mike Hynson said he was just a regular guy off the stage. A really cool guy. Does anyone think Jimi may have committed suicide? I only ask because he allegidly said things to indicate that he was gonna die very soon. Anyone, I'm getting a headache listening to this bullshit while writing this. I hope Jimi at least.got laid or enjoy Mike's company and talks on surfing.

Hendrix did NOT want anything to do with this movie...he was basically forced to do it, by Mike Jeffery. He did not mind the outdoor venue, but really did not want to be an actor in the film. At least, he got to be with that sexy model, Melinda Merriwether, he even recorded for himself, a tune dedicated to her, "Scorpio Woman"...Melinda went on, to live in upscale La Jolla, and eventually got into politics/animal rights, etc. She still is around!
