This is how I got into Grady's videos. A year later, I have a surprising degree of knowledge about country music! It made my summer road trip home much more entertaining, as I scrolled through country music stations with some idea of what I was listening to. And every now and then when I'm out with my friends a country song will come on and I'll share a little country music fact - it's like a party trick.

Riley knows who he is and more importantly, knows his fanbase. He sticks to what works, which is his style. IMO - he's a great songwriter, Aint my last rodeo & grandpas were solo writes, and probably his most well written songs. On the contrary, he's pretty mismanaged. His release schedule is minimal in comparison to other artists on his caliber. Re-releasing singles from his freshman album was strange. I think I speak for all his fans when I say he needs to put out more music. Maybe show a little range too.
I know this isn’t a Riley original but this was the first time I heard Damn Country Music and I can’t believe people weren’t talking about this song since Tim released it. One of the best songs I’ve heard this year. The way it tackles the theme of obsession and slavery to that thing we love, even when it wrecks us. It’s so powerful and something everyone can relate to, no matter what ‘that thing’ may be. Just beautiful songwriting. Love Riley’s version too.
He's found what works for him, and he sticks to it. For me personally, I don't think he's the best; I don't think he's the worst; I think he's just extremely mid.
I'm a big Riley fan. It sounds nice and it's just easy to listen to. I also think his voice sounds a lot better than it did in his earlier stuff. He also just seems like a cool dude that doesn't need to be some big star and just enjoys making music.
I think he just sticks to what works. I grew up in Northeast Alabama like he did, so when he references Guntersville in a song (where I’ve fished a lot) I go “Oh, yeah..” and I think that’s what he is going for. There are unreleased songs like “Because of Me”… “Keep Coming Around”… “Known Any Better”… “Til You Gave One”… that are so unique, and why they weren’t released in this album? I have no idea, but they are such solid songs.
I also will say if you like at the songwriters list for his songs, he writes with a lot of the same people, so maybe that’s why the songs seem so similar? And I think he always uses Dan Huff as his producer
A Riley Green album doesn’t disappoint. Most of his songs are well delivered and the lyrics, although not advanced, always manage to paint a feeling or picture you can connect with. I’m enjoying this latest release!

But… as you kinda said and as a fellow (to Riley) Bama boy, that’s kinda the point. He’s singing songs that pull on sentimentality and nostalgia that comforts so many in a time when rural culture is dying and everything in life is so hyperpolitized. With it being so common throughout his repertoire, it comes across as a one-trick pony to many, but it resonates still with many of us. Those of us that still live like we, our parents, their parents, and their parents (and so on) we’re raised our watching our way of life disappear to dying small towns (either due to factories and plants that have folded or to larger metropolitan cities growing and taking over small towns with generic suburbs, generic shopping, and (therefore) generic people with no real personality, culture, or identity. Being in rural Alabama (as well as suburban Georgia for a short time), it’s easy to see those living subdivisions being desperate for an identity from which (at best) they’ve become disconnected by generations. They go and buy an obscenely expensive truck(-like vehicle), spend a massive amount of money on hunting stuff (to kill an immature buck that they’re too scared to gut (because they may get blood on their $1500 worth of camo they’re wearing)), adopt a tv-version of a southern/country accent, while having no real connection with the actual culture itself… and I’d imagine that many of these fan boys talking about sleeping on Riley fall directly into that lack of identity, but that’s just it… it’s clear as to what the identity and the comfort that Riley represents). There’s a Riley rabbit trail. It’s music without the onslaught of computer noises that generally pollutes much of the last 15 years of mainstream country music. It’s just comfortable, which is usually what we want when just passively listening to the radio.
I’ve been a Riley Green fan since his early EPs, but I’m a MS guy that found out about him early. He’s continued to improve and you’re right, he does play it safe musically. I’d love to see him break out of his standard “verse-chorus-verse-chorus-two line bridge-chorus” prescription that he applies to every song. Generally, I enjoy most of his songs and he puts on a great live show. I relate to much of what he sings about and know all the places he references. As long as he consistently keeps delivering albums with 5-6 really good songs on them, then he’ll be just fine.
Truly truly Riley Green has my been favorite artist since 2018! I can say so much but I’ll try to keep it short. From the album Working on Me definitely my favorite song by far, I listen to it on repeat since it’s come out. For me, Riley green music can fit almost any mood. I am in if I moody or it’s a rainy day, I can put on Riley Green and he had me feeling some type away. But if I wanna be upbeat and happy and loving on sunshine, he also has those songs that make me feel so giddy. Is it simple? Yes. Can it be repetitive? Yes. Are there songs that I can do without? Probably. I just know I’m never not in the mood to listen in Riley Green, like I can always put him on and be satisfied. Also, sidenote, he puts on one fun show I’ve seen him probably five times now in concert and I’m gonna go see him two more times next year!
Riley Green was born and raised in Jacksonville, Alabama and played quarterback at Jacksonville State University which the school is playing their first year in FBS this year. Artists like Riley Green, Muscadine Bloodline, Colter Wall, Justin Moore, Jon Pardi, Midland, Charley Crockett, Zach Bryan, etc are trying to get country music back to the old ways of country music that still sold a lot of records. Morgan Wallen, Luke Bryan, Luke Combs, etc like many of todays country artists of today sound like more pop radio of the top 40 kind that you see from the 1980s and 90s. The small markets prefer to play more of the old style sound than anything of the new stuff.
I wasn't too interested in Riley Green until I heard "When She Comes Home Tonight" on a playlist and now I get it. That one is a little older but a good example of a more flirtatious song that I didn't hear anyone mention.
I agree and disagree with you Grady😂 he makes music that resonates with small town America listeners songs that we can sing too and get our whole small town dive bar to sing along with when we put it on the Jukebox. He has that 90s vibe that fits right in with artists such as Combs, CoJo, he just works. Some artists like Zach Bryan are just too deep and polarizing to enjoy.
I can understand how some of the songs are not relatable to some. And that's ok. I personally can relate to the "good ol' boy" music. I think you hit the nail on the head though by saying, "ot might be same ol' Riley, but at least it sounds good." I don't think Riley's goals are to reinvent the wheel. I think he's just comfortable making music that he likes, and he's unapologetic about it, as you can tell. That's why he's relatable. I think that's why a lot of guys like him. I also feel like not every artist has to "say something." I appreciate the artists who are just fine with "blending in" and making good stuff without making headlines. I see it all up and down the comments but it is very true. He knows what works for him. I saw the joke that he makes music to fund his hunting and while I don't think that is fully true I do think Riley doesn't look at music as all he is. He isn't trying to be the most famous artist or have some new stance or hill to die on. He is who he is
I think you’ve kind of hit the nail on the head about Riley’s music, but I think there are so many songs, many of which he has solo-written or are not even cut that he shows off his raw song writing ability. A few off the top of my head are Almost, Runnin with an Angel, Run Out of Tears, My First Everything, Numbers on the Cars… the list just goes on. A lot of his older music hasn’t yet seen the light of day or gotten what it deserves, being that his more popular songs are obviously the mainstream radio hits. Personally, I like this about his discography, because you really have to listen to the whole thing to understand how good he is, and I think that’s where a lot of the really passionate fans are coming from. I really like Riley's sound. He has a classic Tim McGraw sound (funny that he redid one of them on this album). But the rabbid fans are simply that due to the controversy. Just like the reason "Try that in a small town" was number 1. Riley knows this too which is why he made a show to change the lyrics of the song to "Coors light" to keep his name in the news.
No he just changed the lyrics because he’s a down home country boy that didn’t want to support bud light and transgenders 😂 his music makes it evident he isn’t heavily concerned with publicity
Riley green works because he resonates with the core of country culture. It’s the people in the Deep South that work hard all day in the sun drove trucks in a field on the weekend and grew up living most of what he talks about. I’m from Alabama and almost all of his songs resonate with me from a nostalgia standpoint.
Riley Green’s music to me is like those guys on TikTok who live their life like a Florida Georgia line video, but thinks they’re different because they listen to Zach Bryan and Tyler Childers
Love his music. It’s got a real traditional country sound which is what I love. Great storytelling in his song writing. He’s built a very solid following. He’ll have a very nice career doing what he’s doing.
This is not entire on topic but as a straight female consumer of country music I have never actually considered how attractive Riley Green is/is not until this video. Maybe its marketing or how he presents himself but its just never crossed my mind and I'm someone how knows who he is and has a few of his songs on my regular playlist. In terms of his music, I think its fine but for the most part not memorable for me. I don't hate the repetitive themes if that's what he likes but I guess most of his music lyrically doesn't feel all that personal.
Riley isn’t someone I’m particularly into, he’s not really unique or interesting enough for me personally most of the time, but I totally see the need for his straight down the middle country music. And it’s great that it actually sounds country. Someone’s gotta make mainstream music that’ll play on the radio and I’m glad he’s doing it in an authentic way that sounds nice

I live in Asia for work. Riley is like the Pinterest vision board of what I want my life to be like when I finally get back. I would guess that there are many like me - perhaps in slightly less extreme circumstances - who are not quite living the life they want yet and Riley points them in the right direction. He’s not a musical genius but he’s weirdly escapist in his wholesomeness.
Maybe it's because of the no auto tune no electronics and pure autotune and maybe it's also just because of me living the small town country life myself and finding the themes of Riley very relatable that makes this man so enjoyable to listen too? I do not know why but he's way up there for me lol
Me and my daughter love Riley Green. we've seen him quite a few times and it's kind of our thing together. If I had to describe why I personally like his music to someone, it's like you said, it's simple, easy to listen to, and he also has a much more authentic side, although I agree not much on this album. People say they crave "90s country", well he's as close as it gets. I do tend to like his less produced versions of almost all of his songs.
Last thing, I LOVE Zach Bryan, but sometimes I have to listen 5-10 times to catch all the things that make ZB great, with Riley Green, hit play, turn it up. Simple lol

You're missing it. For those of us who grew up on Haggard and Waylon, Riley is a sure bet. Country has become a lot of things and country isn't in the mix much anymore. Thankfully, Riley can be counted on for down the middle, classic country sounds. If you came to county in the 2000's, without the traditional country influences at home, you probably won't love him.
It took 11 mins to clearly state: Riley doesn’t venture outside his comfort zone and that you don’t dislike the album, but compared him to more adventurous artist. I don’t think comparing others different styles is productive. He has fans who enjoy his music and is allowed to write whatever he wants. Maybe that music connects with others more than you. All that matters is this is an amazing time for country music.
as someone who had/has a very deep relationship with their grandfather his music connects on a very deep level the title track my last rodeo pulls on the heart strings imo more then i wish grandpas never died or numbers on the cars. as for the rest of his music its just strictly relateable to so many people kinda like so many people connect with zach bryan on the same level as people do with rileys music

He does have a lot of the same tropes however it’s the specific details he gives in his songs that I love. It’s never a lyric “just doing what we do”. His songs are usually very catchy and easy to sing along to as well
"Georgia Time" is the only song I truly believe to be GREAT Riley Green song. And I believe it started the trend of songs about rival school fans falling in love: Tennessee Fan, Tennessee Orange.
I think some of the thoughts about Riley being repetitive come from a misunderstanding of what he’s trying to communicate. If you look at it from the perspective of him advocating an old way of life emphasizing faith and family, there’s a lot more to be got from listening to him. That’s what connects his songs and makes them unique from people who pander. Its a resistance to where things are going.

Hey idk how else to contact you, but have you ever done a video on the roughly 10 months “The Nashville Channel” or “Nashville 11” was on XM. I feel like nobody talks about it. It genuinely launched the careers of FGL, Chase Rice etc, but also there were absolute hits on that nationwide station from guys people still haven’t heard of, like Jesse Watson’s “Chicken Lights & Chrome” or Chris Hurt “Harleys & John Deere” or Brandon Bush Band who absolutely vanished after 2 full albums. Jesse Rice had a great song called “Sad Songs, Cigarettes and Whiskey”. Nobody ever talks about this station. I still have a playlist of over 100 songs that were only ever played by them, than they just disappeared.
I had always thought he makes good music but, as you said, he doesn't have a very wide range on the subject matter of his songs. On his Different Round Here album he pretty much sang each song twice, with just different lyrics. Just one example of that is Bettin Man and In Love By Now. They are the exact same song. Both good songs, but the exact same premise on both. This new album I think offers a bit more variety, but I haven't really listened to it enough to realize if he's just writing the same song over and over again.

He writes all his songs for That One Particular Audience now. Different Round Here audience. But I actually think his old music that he wrote by himself had a very unique voice-Almost, Never done it sober, All along. He has this simplistic writing style that feels very authentic, like: I’m drinking too much. I miss you. I’m not doing well! I miss my mom. I miss my home. Some people may not like that, but I loved his quick to the point earnestness. Also: Men seem to love ReallyHotManlyMen just as much, if not more than women😂😂

IMO Riley is the most consistent country singer right now. Does he have any incredible songs? No. Does he have any really bad songs? Also no. All of his music is just constantly decent.
But you could literally say this about every single artist ever. All of Zach Bryan's songs sound the same. All of Jon Pardi's songs sound the same, Colter Wall, Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, HARDY, etc. Do any of their songs really sound different from one another?

For me, Riley green music can fit almost any mood. I am in if I moody or it’s a rainy day, I can put on Riley Green and he had me feeling some type away. But if I wanna be upbeat and happy and loving on sunshine, he also has those songs that make me feel so giddy.
Is it simple? Yes. Can it be repetitive? Yes. Are there songs that I can do without? Probably.
I just know I’m never not in the mood to listen in Riley Green, like I can always put him on and be satisfied.
Also, sidenote, he puts on one fun show I’ve seen him probably five times now in concert and I’m gonna go see him two more times next year!

Riley Green was born and raised in Jacksonville, Alabama and played quarterback at Jacksonville State University which the school is playing their first year in FBS this year.
Artists like Riley Green, Muscadine Bloodline, Colter Wall, Justin Moore, Jon Pardi, Midland, Charley Crockett, Zach Bryan, etc are trying to get country music back to the old ways of country music that still sold a lot of records. Morgan Wallen, Luke Bryan, Luke Combs, etc like many of todays country artists of today sound like more pop radio of the top 40 kind that you see from the 1980s and 90s. The small markets prefer to play more of the old style sound than anything of the new stuff.
I wasn't too interested in Riley Green until I heard "When She Comes Home Tonight" on a playlist and now I get it. That one is a little older but a good example of a more flirtatious song that I didn't hear anyone mention.
I agree and disagree with you Grady😂 he makes music that resonates with small town America listeners songs that we can sing too and get our whole small town dive bar to sing along with when we put it on the Jukebox. He has that 90s vibe that fits right in with artists such as Combs, CoJo, he just works.
Some artists like Zach Bryan are just too deep and polarizing to enjoy.
I can understand how some of the songs are not relatable to some. And that's ok. I personally can relate to the "good ol' boy" music. I think you hit the nail on the head though by saying, "ot might be same ol' Riley, but at least it sounds good."
I don't think Riley's goals are to reinvent the wheel. I think he's just comfortable making music that he likes, and he's unapologetic about it, as you can tell. That's why he's relatable. I think that's why a lot of guys like him.
I also feel like not every artist has to "say something." I appreciate the artists who are just fine with "blending in" and making good stuff without making headlines. He has definitely found his lane, and I don't think that will change. And I'm here for it
I see it all up and down the comments but it is very true. He knows what works for him. I saw the joke that he makes music to fund his hunting and while I don't think that is fully true I do think Riley doesn't look at music as all he is. He isn't trying to be the most famous artist or have some new stance or hill to die on. He is who he is
I think you’ve kind of hit the nail on the head about Riley’s music, but I think there are so many songs, many of which he has solo-written or are not even cut that he shows off his raw song writing ability. A few off the top of my head are Almost, Runnin with an Angel, Run Out of Tears, My First Everything, Numbers on the Cars… the list just goes on. A lot of his older music hasn’t yet seen the light of day or gotten what it deserves, being that his more popular songs are obviously the mainstream radio hits. Personally, I like this about his discography, because you really have to listen to the whole thing to understand how good he is, and I think that’s where a lot of the really passionate fans are coming from. Riley green works because he resonates with the core of country culture. It’s the people in the Deep South that work hard all day in the sun drove trucks in a field on the weekend and grew up living most of what he talks about. I’m from Alabama and almost all of his songs resonate with me from a nostalgia standpoint.

Love his music. It’s got a real traditional country sound which is what I love. Great storytelling in his song writing. He’s built a very solid following. He’ll have a very nice career doing what he’s doing.
This is not entire on topic but as a straight female consumer of country music I have never actually considered how attractive Riley Green is/is not until this video. Maybe its marketing or how he presents himself but its just never crossed my mind and I'm someone how knows who he is and has a few of his songs on my regular playlist. In terms of his music, I think its fine but for the most part not memorable for me. I don't hate the repetitive themes if that's what he likes but I guess most of his music lyrically doesn't feel all that personal.
Riley isn’t someone I’m particularly into, he’s not really unique or interesting enough for me personally most of the time, but I totally see the need for his straight down the middle country music. And it’s great that it actually sounds country. Someone’s gotta make mainstream music that’ll play on the radio and I’m glad he’s doing it in an authentic way that sounds nice

I live in Asia for work. Riley is like the Pinterest vision board of what I want my life to be like when I finally get back. I would guess that there are many like me - perhaps in slightly less extreme circumstances - who are not quite living the life they want yet and Riley points them in the right direction. He’s not a musical genius but he’s weirdly escapist in his wholesomeness.

Maybe it's because of the no auto tune no electronics and pure autotune and maybe it's also just because of me living the small town country life myself and finding the themes of Riley very relatable that makes this man so enjoyable to listen too? I do not know why but he's way up there for me lol
Me and my daughter love Riley Green. we've seen him quite a few times and it's kind of our thing together. If I had to describe why I personally like his music to someone, it's like you said, it's simple, easy to listen to, and he also has a much more authentic side, although I agree not much on this album. People say they crave "90s country", well he's as close as it gets.
I do tend to like his less produced versions of almost all of his songs.
Last thing, I LOVE Zach Bryan, but sometimes I have to listen 5-10 times to catch all the things that make ZB great, with Riley Green, hit play, turn it up. Simple lol
Going into the album knowing Riley’s style, I really enjoyed the album. I honestly love every song, and listen to the whole album straight through everyday

You're missing it. For those of us who grew up on Haggard and Waylon, Riley is a sure bet. Country has become a lot of things and country isn't in the mix much anymore. Thankfully, Riley can be counted on for down the middle, classic country sounds. If you came to county in the 2000's, without the traditional country influences at home, you probably won't love him.

I don’t think comparing others different styles is productive. He has fans who enjoy his music and is allowed to write whatever he wants.
Maybe that music connects with others more than you. All that matters is this is an amazing time for country music.
as someone who had/has a very deep relationship with their grandfather his music connects on a very deep level the title track my last rodeo pulls on the heart strings imo more then i wish grandpas never died or numbers on the cars. as for the rest of his music its just strictly relateable to so many people kinda like so many people connect with zach bryan on the same level as people do with rileys music

"Georgia Time" is the only song I truly believe to be GREAT Riley Green song. And I believe it started the trend of songs about rival school fans falling in love: Tennessee Fan, Tennessee Orange.
I think some of the thoughts about Riley being repetitive come from a misunderstanding of what he’s trying to communicate. If you look at it from the perspective of him advocating an old way of life emphasizing faith and family, there’s a lot more to be got from listening to him. That’s what connects his songs and makes them unique from people who pander. Its a resistance to where things are going.

RIley is what he is, and that's kinda refreshing in a way. I, by no means, fall firmly on the side of Riley's political beliefs, but I love his songs, I love his message. Saw him with Luke Combs in St. Louis, and quite honestly, I wanted more of Riley. Long live Duckman!

Hey idk how else to contact you, but have you ever done a video on the roughly 10 months “The Nashville Channel” or “Nashville 11” was on XM. I feel like nobody talks about it. It genuinely launched the careers of FGL, Chase Rice etc, but also there were absolute hits on that nationwide station from guys people still haven’t heard of, like Jesse Watson’s “Chicken Lights & Chrome” or Chris Hurt “Harleys & John Deere” or Brandon Bush Band who absolutely vanished after 2 full albums. Jesse Rice had a great song called “Sad Songs, Cigarettes and Whiskey”. Nobody ever talks about this station. I still have a playlist of over 100 songs that were only ever played by them, than they just disappeared.
I had always thought he makes good music but, as you said, he doesn't have a very wide range on the subject matter of his songs. On his Different Round Here album he pretty much sang each song twice, with just different lyrics. Just one example of that is Bettin Man and In Love By Now. They are the exact same song. Both good songs, but the exact same premise on both. This new album I think offers a bit more variety, but I haven't really listened to it enough to realize if he's just writing the same song over and over again.

He writes all his songs for That One Particular Audience now. Different Round Here audience. But I actually think his old music that he wrote by himself had a very unique voice-Almost, Never done it sober, All along. He has this simplistic writing style that feels very authentic, like: I’m drinking too much. I miss you. I’m not doing well! I miss my mom. I miss my home. Some people may not like that, but I loved his quick to the point earnestness.
Also: Men seem to love ReallyHotManlyMen just as much, if not more than women😂😂
