I think you should be allowed to put a glass block on transparent objects to make a case for them. But you can't use the object while encased in glass and you have to break the glass to interact with the object. Panes should work like this on item frames.
There could be two versions of that. One made with glass block so it's 3d and you can't access the item on display from any side, and one made with glass panes, which allows you to access the item only from the top and from the bottom

Normally it goes behind the barrier, it's the first block that's put in, but it doesn't seem to have passed through the bug of MINECRAFT, and it's behind the glass barrier, like a chest in the glass, but it's visible in front of it, and when it puts the crate, it looks like it's intertwined.
I figured the bug out, when it is pushed against a barrier, if you try to push it past, the system cannot comply, so it disables all collisions, there fore, you can place inside it, but if it is something like a piston, it won’t detect any red stone signal
