wonderful, makes me want to go back again. We stayed at the hostel towards the top of the island, the owner was called Matthew and his assistant was called Luke, I had my daughter with me and pondered where Mark and John were? I loved Iona and had the opportunity to go out to Staffa. I will go back there. An interesting piece of trivia, Iona and the village of Portmahomack in Easter Ross, founded around the same time, were the earliest sites of Christianity in Scotland. The late 500's AD I understand. Thank you for your great videos, I adore them.
Oh Julie , this is great . I have heard of this place . Never heard of these things . Really touching . You and the Derik do such nice stuff . Thanks kids !
Iona is another place I have to visit...so much history, myth and legend within one small island. The Waterboys wrote a beautiful song about the place and recorded both English and Gaelic versions of it too. Thanks for the stories!
Wow, wow and more wow! I was on Iona many years ago, and now thanks to yourself and Martin, I can see Iona as many times as I wish. Great video work, detaied research It is a wonderful place, with a wonderful aura. No wonder Columba loved is so much. xx
Now I have to put Isle of Iona on my list of places to visit. But I need you to come too, to tell me more tales! You two make visiting these amazing places so much fun. I feel like I'm there walking with you. My dogs jumped when I laughed out loud! I was hoping I could see the Munks exercising the seals. Sit-ups, swimming laps around the island, Fifty fin flaps for the seals who came in last place. Okay... I know you said Exorcising. Not as fun to watch, I'm sure. I loved the rocks turning green by the tears. Oh I can't forget the poor guy who got buried TWICE. Gee whiz, if he didn't die the first time, he may not have been accepted as a sacrifice. Let the poor man go.
Ha ha, thank you so much! I get the impression you enjoyed this offering. Aye, Scotland has no end of traditional and tall tales to offer the visitor!!
@@ExploringScotlandsHistory I enjoy your video's very much! I really do look forward to them. I still have a couple more older ones to watch, but I can't help watch the new ones first. :) I love your sense of humor, and the stories you tell along with the information about the area you are visiting. It's a wonderful combination. I'm so glad I found your channel! It's my favorite for sure.
@@denisea871 great praise indeed, it is much appreciated. I so enjoy getting out to these places, and really feel.it would be a shame if I didn't share them 🤗
Yes, here's the abbey on Iona. Mull is somewhere I have videos on too if you have a wee look. th-cam.com/video/YJ7qWB3ANEw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hZRkAHjDy9-h3g8R
Thanks for watching. That's a much older video tbf, we have been able to improve our recording equipment since then. I won't consider an edit tbf, I'm not taking down a video with 1.7K watches, and the only edits TH-cam allow me to do without removing it, wouldn't fix the issue you have. Plenty of videos to come though! Looking at some castle stays on out next break away 😉🏴
Of course an edit is not possible. Perhaps not exactly my thoughts. I watched originally the Kilroy Knap Chapel and shared it with a with a senior MacMillan with hearing loss, we then watched Isle of Iona and just gave up on listening. Even closed captioning had a hard time. Still enjoyable, and I plan to work my way through all your posts, old and new. Enjoy your hikes.
@@extrememakeupfx8223 It's all a learning curve tbh. I have managed to improve my equipment, so om newer videos are obviously better produced. I spend a lot of time on them, despite a full time+ work schedule. I hadn't edited at all before I released my first video, so on a personal level, I'm happy with how far I've come. It's quite an involved process. If I could film indoors it would be easier, has ha, but I'd much rather be battling the elements and out exploring. Thank you for sticking with the page!!
Wow 68 monks murdered there, I can see why they did not want to leave but what a price to pay. Some fascinating history there and some great stories, cheers Alan
Oh my goodness! Buried alive- twice! It's amazing how barbaric humans were back then. Well, now that I think of it, humans really haven't changed much. What a wonderful location to walk around and enjoy. Just brilliant. Thank you!

Thanks for watching! Yes, the Derick had to do the donkey work on that one once my vertigo kicked in ha ha
As an American, I got to visit Iona in 1996. It was the best place I’ve visited. More sheep than people!
Thanks for watching!

Are you familiar with the two Orthodox monasteries in the area? One being on Iona (Iona Hermitage) and the other (All Celtic Saints) on on Mull.?
Yes, here's the abbey on Iona. Mull is somewhere I have videos on too if you have a wee look.

Love your videos. The music is however makes it difficult to hear your narration, esp to with the wind. Consider an edit.

As always, thanks for watching! Yes, often more myth than historic fact where I go 🤣
Was up there years ago have sandwich 🥪 siting down all
Quiet here pipes playing over hills
Kept quiet heard story few people heard it too
