Saw them at a bar in Banff in '96. The windows in the stire below popped out from all of us jigging and the band bought me a plate of nachos. What a night, what a lovely bunch they are. Loves 'em
I have recently been "blogging" on Zoom with some new Irish friends (from Co. Letrim) and have indicated that The Descendants (from Newfoundland) are "My Favourite Irish Band." Perfect rendition of this charming tune.
Well, we had one heck of a night last night with the Irish Descendants playing at our Legion in Dominion! Just want to say a huge thank you on behalf of our Legion and the Hawks Dream Field. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening. ❤️❤️
These guys are fabulous. I just "discovered" them this morning when I listened to their version of "Let Me Fish Off Cape St. Mary" and was informed, via a posting on You Tube, that the group singing that wonderful song was called The Irish Descendants. I look forward to discovering more of their wonderful sound and will support them with my money as well as my mouth. Thanks for the great music, boys. (The lassie ain't bad to look at, either.)
The Irish Decreasedants are a fantastic Folk group band from St. John's Newfoundland I like there songs Elaine fantastic CON O'Brien is a fantastic singer songwriter and Guitarist there all fantastic
(Pardon me lol ) Wondering if you know of any plans for new music/videos releases? I've only recently discovered them here in Australia, and Con with his incredibly beautiful voice! Also love to know, if by chance the bassist in this video (Larry Martin) is likely to rejoin again?
What a great song, absolutely love the Irish descendants, great voices, also a great harmonization touch to the song, best version I've heard, Thanks for posting! :)
I have all their ablums - I loved group since a Canadian friend of mine turned me on to them a couple of years ago. I am particularly fond of this version of Catch the Wind - I actually like it a lot better than Donovan - the original (I think!) artist. I didn't know they did videos! Thanks for posting this!
Absolutely LOVE this version of the song! I'd have to admit that I didn't care for the original, but this version is beautiful and a thing of wonder. Well done guys, very well done!
Never been to Newfoundland but have spent time in Nova Scotia and can vouch for that part of the world having some great music and some great songwriters. Everyone should go there and see and hear for themselves. Donovan?????
This isn't even close to what I'm usually listening to (about 120 bpm short), but this is great! Makes me want to sit down and have a pint of Guinnes with my mates.
i love this video.mainly because its a great song and its in my hometown.actually is still live there.i live not to far from where this is taken.from where i live i can look out over the harbour.its a great view.the town is call Flatrock.and at 1:55 when it goes around the corner of the building, the nose of the boat that is shown is my friends dads boat
I have to go dig up my Irish Descendants albums now. Excellent work; I never knew you guys did music videos! I can't find much of your work here in the States.
Not a bad rendition BUT remember that Donovan recorded this back in the 1960's. Styles were different and technology has improved. Plus it was Donovan's genius that created this song. It's easier to do what's already been did that to create something new.
Great memories seeing this band at the Double Deuce in the 1990s in Halifax. I thought they wrote this song until I heard Dylan's then I realised it was Donovan! Lol. Seriously though, good band to bring a date to /wink-wink-say-so-more.
@TxKimberly Love this version also. This is my first time to hear it & it's fantastic. I love many of the versions Donovan did. He is an acquired taste, like Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, and Joan Baez.
@Rheostatik thanks , for the info. man i can listen to this all day, what a voice...just amazing. o'brian has one of the greatest voices i have ever heard

Excellent....thank you from this Irish descendant living in Olympia, Washington. USA
Hands down one of the best versions ever of this excellent song!
My favorite song!
I think Donovan would be proud!
I own everything they ever recorded. They remain in spite of changes over the years, my favorite band ever. I wish they'd record more.
A song of my childhood. Parents used to play these guys all the time.
I have recently been "blogging" on Zoom with some new Irish friends (from Co. Letrim) and have indicated that The Descendants (from Newfoundland) are "My Favourite Irish Band." Perfect rendition of this charming tune.

They are not Irish, they are Canadians from Newfoundland.
@@maryjeanjones7569 What is it you don’t understand about Irish descendants?
I heard this song 20 years ago, and have loved it ever since. It's beautiful and haunting at the same time. It always puts a smile on my face...
Ah my wonderful Irish kinfolk!!!
I wanna see Ireland again ... How beautiful, now I'm in tears ...
Pretty sure this is Newfoundland not Ireland but both beautiful.
A beautiful strong voice complemented by a talented bunch of musicians, doesn't get any better.
Coming from a cowboy out in the Western US, this is AWESOME, my Irish friends! Love it!

This isn't even close to what I'm usually listening to (about 120 bpm short), but this is great! Makes me want to sit down and have a pint of Guinnes with my mates.
Same. I'm generally listening to Behemoth or LoG and this just captured me.

That's Newfoundland sweetheart!
+Bryce Reede Home Sweet Home for me!! :)
There's a duet of this with Donavan and Liam Clancy out there somewhere. This is a great cover.
The Newfs are 1 just another part of why Canada is GREAT! Gawd luv'em!
+Essardee That's NEWFIES not Newfs..that sounds too hateful like that
loves the by's
NICE.
Adam, it is on iTunes. You'll find it on the album So Far So Good...The Best Of The Irish Descendants.
Not a bad rendition BUT remember that Donovan recorded this back in the 1960's. Styles were different and technology has improved. Plus it was Donovan's genius that created this song. It's easier to do what's already been did that to create something new.
Con O'Brien is the singer's name. The line-up is constantly changing, but he's the only one that's been there since the beginning.
Yet another reason I'm proud to call Newfoundland home.
me too!!
Good version of a Donovan classic
Very well done. Are you guys going to be performing after this lockdown is over?
Great memories seeing this band at the Double Deuce in the 1990s in Halifax. I thought they wrote this song until I heard Dylan's then I realised it was Donovan! Lol. Seriously though, good band to bring a date to /wink-wink-say-so-more.
Great bouzouki part!
@TxKimberly Love this version also. This is my first time to hear it & it's fantastic. I love many of the versions Donovan did. He is an acquired taste, like Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, and Joan Baez.
this guys voice is awesome. who is the singer in this video ? american idol needs talent like this not all that crap they have on there.
Is this on iTunes? - I am struggling to find it. Such great music.

Good old Newfoundland
If you want to hear something beautiful, search for their rendition of Let Me Fish Off Cape Mary.
im from canada and yes this is filmed in newfound land plus these guys aren't even irish they just sound like it the singer is actually german
Con O'Brien is not German! lol
Tak Man yep look at the big fat head on him....he's and Irish Newfie.
they're called the Irish DESCENDANTS, they're all second or third generation
the lead singer is Con O'Brien... born and raised in Bay Bulls Newfoundland.... my second cousin...
is that Paul "Boomer" Stamp playing the drums?
So do anyone know how D'arcy is doing since his stroke? Hope things are well for him.
OK, I'll say it - this version beats Donovan's cold.
@tleok2003 he's my uncle
It's like these guys just wake up one morning and said, "What the fuck, let's make a music video."
Great rendition. I like it better than Donovan's.
tubs be the best
love you daddy! ( ronnie power) :)
what year did Canada join nfld nothing to do with the amazeing song
1949
ya well larrys my dad
Nice Donovan cover! But Give credit for the original artist. I always get erked when people don't give credit for covering someone's song.
