A pleasure to listen to, as all your songs and arrangements are. There's an incredible otherwordly harmony between the lute and "classic" songs, that's why enjoy your versions of the 60s/70s catalogue so much. Keep on doing this excellent work, you enrich the lives of so many people with it. Keep fighting the good fight and all the best to you my friend.
This song always makes me well up (reminds me of someone long-gone, and gone way too soon). Today was no exception. Thank you, Daniel, for helping me through the night.
I was thinking today, "I wonder if Dan has ever worked out something for 'Whiter Shade of Pale' ?" So I jumped on TH-cam and found its been there for months. Dan you never disappoint. Thanks for picking this one up - its a song full of memories and you captured the mood perfectly.
Oh god!!! I can't believe you did this......I was just listening to this song the other day.....this is sooooo awesome.......and the Bach mixed in......too excellent......I want one soooo bad now.......take me awhile to afford one......but I'll sell some of my guitars to help.......GREAT WORK.....LOVE IT!!!
What a pleasant surprise it was to hear the Air on G string midway through your performance ! and appropriately so since whiter shade of pale was indeed inspired by the Air on G string. it's mind boggling to hear how the two pieces are intertwined.
I went back and listened to your 11 string guitar arrangement, which I thought was beyond awesome. And now on the lute, incredible. Both performances are wonderful.
@@steveschmidt5156 My understanding is that Procol Harum's organist was asked to play Bach's Air for this song, but that he only had a vague memory of how it went, so he played what he remembered it sounds like, and he ended up creating his own melody without even realizing it.

you are a master of the Lute! such great tunes, I can almost hear the words, beautifully done. I tried learning guitar, I have trouble getting the muscle memory for 6 strings, or even teh 4 strings on the bass, I wouldn't stand a chance against the lute that you play with such ease like it is an extension of your own body and mind.
I really enjoy the arrangement... cheers... im hoping to start a channel for lute and guitar soon... i will be attempting original short sketches and small pieces on all keys major and minor for 8 course lute and guitar... thanks for the inspiration...
Oh, what a beautiful arrangement! I play the lyre, kind of harp. May I have the score of that please? I will pay for it. I would be happy if it possible.
Pretty sure the band built this song on the progression from Air on the G String, so covering it on an instrument from Bach’s time is quite fitting! Procol Harum distinguished themselves by drawing from classical modulation- I particularly like the structure of Salad Days (Are Here Again)

@@danbluedeer I grew up playing the guitar and have always loved the lute in movies, shows and video games. The way you play the lute is like someone playing a piano where they are able to play the rhythm and the lead at the same time and it is truly mesmerizing. It's fantastic but I don't think I would ever be able to play anything so complicated.
I think I know why there's one thumbs down. If someone has a phone like mine; the thumbs down is just to the left of the share arrow. They were probably trying to share and their phone messed it up on them!
I think it was Paul McCartney that said that this song “stood above all others”-you did it justice with this rendition. Magnifique!
Thanks! it's said the lads listened to the song many, many times
I would start a band with you
This could be a medieval tune. Daniel has an uncanny taste for choosing the right tunes to play on his lutes.
Thanks--your comment is appreciated!

A delightful rendition, so calming and relaxing. Blending the Bach original into the Procol Harum treatment is soothing and a joy to hear.

Nice. I’m old enough to remember when it was first released. The Procol Harum bit, not the Bach.

My uncle Barrie was Procol Harum's drummer. I'm not sure my dad ever really liked them, but he did own all their albums.
excellent band!
So awesome
Thank You Patricia!
This song sounds as if inspired in classical music in the first place, so the adaptation sounds very natural.
You're right about that
I believe that the group did indeed credit Bach for inspiration in an interview in Hit Parader magazine, back in the day.

Some of the phrases give off some Bach kind of vibes subconsciously, of which I couldn't even explain in terms of musicality.
I can't tell from your comment if you read the drop-down note (small triangle) where I said there's a section of Bach's "Air on the G String" included

it varies, but it's usually more than 12-15 hours, that's before trying to play the piece.
