    It's amazing how a movie like Gremlins was heavily promoted to kids back then. I remember there were toys, a kid's meal at Hardee's restaurants (with a storybook-record combo), candy, dolls...All built around a movie that had little green monsters killing people, and that wonderful story of why Billy's girlfriend, Kate, hated Christmas...

      +yusakug It might be dark, violent and gross at times but it's still in essence a silly horror movie for kids with a lot of sightgags and humor straight out of cartoons. And Gizmo is factually the cutest thing ever created.
      Though the uproar that "Gremlins" and "Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom" elicited from outraged parents that summer are what spawned the PG-13 rating.

      +80sCommercialVault I recall. My two older brothers took me to see Gremlins when I was 7 years old that summer, and I had to leave the movie early. I did catch the full movie on HBO a year later, and I remember loving it. And yes, I was huge into Gizmo back then. Even had a stuffed toy that squeaked when you squeezed it.
      And thanks to Ghostbusters also in the summer of 84, I fell in love with movies in general.

    That's Keith Coogan in the Corn Pops ad. The grandson of Jackie Coogan was a busy child actor in the late 70's and throughout the 80's on many TV shows. Also had notable roles in the films "Adventures in Babysitting" and "Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead."

    I love and have fond memories of the 80's, but have to say that 84 was the best year of my life. The music, toys, movies and Night Tracks (before MTV popularity) would be the highlight of my weekend.
    With all the issues going on the world, it's good to step in the time machine that is 80's Commercial Vault Channel and watch these Nostalgia commercials. Thanks and been a subscriber since the beginning.

    This is the motherlode of 1984 ads: great VO talent like Paul Frees, Daws Butler, Arnold Stang, and a pre-Nintendo "Mario Bros" commercial for Atari. Wow!

    Nice ads from channel 4! Jack Cafferty left WNBC in 1989 then went to WNYW and WPIX in the 90s.
    Blueberry Hubba Bubba was the best they had and I'm willing to fight y'all on that. And those Shark Bars were a weekly addiction from the ice cream man.
    I also had those puffy He-Man stickers!

    Had that sweeet Castel Greyskull playset and Ram Man as well. Mother threw away the former leaving only the gate and I think one of the canons.
    Andf always fgreat seeing A-team's Murdock. He was my favorite as a kid.

    23. Colgate - I always loved this commercial. Funny how this was modeled after another song. It actually reminds me of When Worlds Collide by Powermac 5000 (the refrain of the song)

    When we used to have fun raisers at school I would always look at the prizes they were giving and dream of winning a phone, hey did anyone recognize Steve Urkel in the Oreo commercial,Man At Arms was my favorite He Man character. Sorry I am commenting as I am watching this . Hey wasn't that Turbo moon walking across the street on the Mc Donalds commerical, hey i was just telling my daughter about the Get Along Gang on Saturday, I would always day dream of eating name brand cereal because we didn't have a lot of money growing up so we usually ate the generic brand but I was blessed with a dad who even though didn't make a lot of money still managed to get us some of the stuff we really wanted, G.I. Joe's were a better trade off to name brand cereal!

    I had an Atari 5200. It had really good graphics for its time. Much better than the 2600. It was HUGE in size and the controllers broke after a few weeks. The shitty controllers are what killed the system.

    i thought Thundarr The Barbarian aired on ABC..?
    Starriors-i dont recall if there was ever an animated series for that property..

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +TTrigg Thundarr originally aired on ABC but NBC played reruns of it in their 1983-84 Saturday Morning schedule:
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983%E2%80%9384_United_States_network_television_schedule_%28Saturday_morning%29
      Starriors was a joint project between Tomy and Marvel. Marvel published the comic books that came with the toys as well as a four-issue limited series. Though no cartoon ever came out, the wikipedia for it says that one was in production to begin airing in 1985:
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starriors

    12:50 The kid just needs a HISTORY of the US Space Program. Not the schematics of the Space Shuttle. Did history books of that sort need government clearance in the 80's?

    Love the commercials! But there's a pretty high frequency/hum going on this one. FYI

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Bill Seipel I usually do try to restore the audio as much as I can on these, but you can only do so much. Believe me...it was much worse in it's original state.

    • @BillSeipel
      @BillSeipel 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +80sCommercialVault I do thank you for fixing these up as best you can. Used to work for an audio engineer and if I were to guess.. this hum peaks out at 6K or so. If I could, I'd help try to fix this. :)

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Bill Seipel Well, the video is already posted, so any further restoration is sort of moot. Thank you though. My opinion with audio restoration is that keeping some high end information and detail with a little noise is better than creating something with aggressive and heavy noise reduction. I try to shoot for somewhere in between.
