nile's anger against andy for the slave trading is like a child angry at a parent for not being perfect, when they turn into teenagers and start seeing them differently. seven thousand years later from nile, you think there might be another generation who is angry at nile for killing at all? different times, different cultures, different standards...on the one hand you can argue a right that's as right yesterday as it is today; on the other, if you assume a timeless, perfect right, and lose all esteem for people who don't fit within it, how do you expect people to grow, as a culture, as an individual? maybe that's one of the hidden analogs of these stories of immortals, the assumption that cultures learn as individuals learn. the individuals are expressions of a desire to see cultures of people as a learning, sentient organism, rather than a random collection of people handed a random set of cultural standards and beliefs.
The story is a 6 at best, which makes volume 1 a 4 and the movie a 1. Great themes but kind of simplistic characterization. The ending is silly and illogical. However, you are an incredible storyteller and the whole experience of these videos is just great! Congratulations

To put things in perspective, Nile is Black. And being that her ancestors were slaves, I can actually understand why she'd feel outraged despite these specific crimes happening 7 thousand years ago. Also, Noriko knew what buttons to press and possibly knew how to manipulate things in her favor. Remember, Andy didn't act the way she did until Nile had to fucking press the matter as a minor suggestion from Noriko. What was Greg Rucka trying to accomplish? This felt more contrived and forced than the woke bullshit we get on Netflix. Oh, wait...
Yeah, this was a bit too contrived for me. Like hell someone who has lived 7000 years is going to be cowed by the moral outrage of a 27 year old who at best saw modern combat. And like hell this group of people who have been together for CENTURIES would up and leave her. It was to move the plot. And I get that. But it was lazy and ham fisted.
The movie makes more sense for why she was trapped in the ocean. Take your clothes off and swim. You might take a few weeks to get the hang of it,but...

The main villan effortlessly found Booker, but couldn't find andy, even though all the cia guy was just google some old newspapers? If the villan really loved andy why did it literally take her so long, you cant just become a kingpin overnight, i could understand her position better if she just finally got out of the ocean found andy and said the world hasnt changed, because technically didnt see how the world changed it just did, ans moreover even during the crusades they had slaves, so why are the other two not siding with andy? Or the fact the youngest took charge not the others who are way older, booker also even lived during slaverly, so like why is no one else saying hey that was the norm, and even any nowadays who said oh I wouldnt do that, you dont know it was prove in multiple studies if someonw from power or society normalizes horrible stuff, we would all mostly likely do it, but back to my main point, andy had a lot of optimize in volume 1 right? So did that all go away? And does being with somone for like thousands of years mean nothing to joe and nikki, who most definitely also had slaves, besides all this Andy spent the entire volume here saving people who would be forced into slavery, so nile outlook is people dont deserve second chances? Like i get it, it stucks to hear that but she is judging andy for something that was down for the social norm, like even now technically if andy didnt have a problem owning people she would care if girls got sold, but she clearly does so how can Nile explain that? Also i can understand why andy right now doesnt want to fight, someone she thought was dead came back, and explained that hey the world hasn't changed at all, which sadly is true in certian regards, so yeah maybe she needed some time to take a brake not total abandonment, this literally is oh you're going through a tuff time, qell suck it up, like bruh what? I hear and read "It was a long time ago, get over it" quite often, from white people, and self-loathing black people, who choose to ignore the long-term consequences of hundreds of years of enslavement.
