Love the white on white wheels! I discovered a Mk1 diesel in the woods near our farm and am considering buying it, restoring it, and putting a turbo on it. Something that is simple and can run on veggie oil would be nice to have around.

Hey I’m doing the same set up and I have a few questions? What did you set the pump at timing wise? How did you hook up boost gauge? I did a line from the intake to a T that goes to the wastegate nipple and to the boost gauge and I’m not getting any boost. I also noticed when I went to take it for a test drive it was slower than stock can this be from my pump not being timed right? I have a Giles modified pump. Please help thanks great looking rabbit by the way
Drop a new alternator in it, replace the timing belt, make sure all your coolant hoses are in tip top shape and give it fresh coolant. Full synthetic oil and a fresh oil and air filter. Drive it like grandma don't know you borrowed it!
that small turbo is the best one the bigger ones have too much lag. looks like kit turbo from Hans auto parts. got 40k miles on mine no issues. the 1.6 has too much lag anyway. I would have put the 1.9. Better power no power band just plain power.
hey you must be up is eastside wa area ? thats my old car. i sold it about 5 to 6 years ago yellow with the black fender same wheels in the before picture. it had damage on right front before i bought it. nice to see it was saved
So your engine is an na solid lifter engine you slapped a turbo on? Did you swap the injection pump to a turbo pump or leave it na? I’m rebuilding my na 1.6 right now and I’d love to turbo it if possible.. my rabbit is an 84 4 door. I’d love to know what you did to turbo yours thanks
@@arsenalfalco realistically speaking.. how hard or easy is it to do that governor mod? I’ve never attempted to open my injection pump before but i would much enjoy at least 10lbs of boost.. i have to climb this gnarly hill on the freeway to get to work and it’d be nice to go faster than 35 up that hill lol
What exhaust manifold is used to be able to put the turbo in it? I'm about to put a turbo in an 81 rabbit pickup and I'm not sure what/ where to get an exhaust manifold for a turbo set up.
the other thing I would have done is put the adenoid pump on. turn down the fuel screw for regular driving and punch out the adenoid for when its pinned. Put a pressure switch on the dash that you turn on and off. That way you get good gas mileage and lower egt. but you still have the power when the switch is on.
If this car is yours now also, you should put a SB coded 1.6td engine into it... it is 80hp stock and has multiple functions that makes it more reliable ;)
And good luck finding one. I looked for over a year and couldn't find one in my state for under a grand. Just drop an ahu engine in. More work, but it's tuneable

Water/Meth might be a good add-on. It'd control EGT's, give a little power boost and helps keep the internals cleaned

Yes a regular 1.6 n/a out of an 81. N/a pump with a turbo and all i did was the governor mod and adjusted the max fuel screw up a hair

BMX Explained hes got a vnt15 turbo. Vnt15 turbo and manifold is all one piece

Yes, the mounts suck i drilled holes on the bottom and zip tied them

1.6 td doesnt have a ecu; its controlled and timed by its fuel pump entirely.

ebay, its an alh intake manifold with an egr delete kit. if i did it again, i would go with an aaz intake manifold so i could rerout my charge pipe
