...so you destroyed racism plus blessed us with an awesome color correction tutorial all in one vid. Made my day! Thank you for the upload🙏🏾 Subscribed💯
This video made me subscribe, I have been doing beauty tutorials for like 9 months and never seemed to get my videos perfect so I have constantly been On TH-cam looking for instructional videos on Davinci Resolve that could help me achieve clear smooth and beautiful videos. I have not tried this yet but watching this video has shown me that it’s possible to do. You took your time and showed the steps which a lot of people don’t do. Thank you! I can’t wait to try this and watch some of your other videos to see what else you show us. I’m gonna purchase your titles package as well! Oh and if you don’t have a camera settings video PLEASE MAKE ONE! Anyways thank you thank you! And I’ll definitely be trying these tips in my next video!
Thank you for grading darker skin tones. I agree. I always thought darker skin's hue would shift too. It is great to see how you approach grading it. I love seeing how much you enjoy doing this grade.
MFM... I just now discovered this video (three years after it came out...) . I have been all over TH-cam looking at videos working to improve my color grading skills and, well, honestly... I came here because I knew that I would get info I trust, but also because your style is like a breath of fresh air. So chill and upbeat and fun to learn from. Tx!
dude thank you. As a white dude getting into videography I wasnt sure if I would have the right "eye" for grading black and brown skin. Soon as you said "we are all the same color just different luminence" something clicked in my head . also, for some reason it just made me feel good that we were all the same color after all, lol
@@TheModernFilmmaker Of course! I switched to Davinci (From Premiere cc) two weeks ago and I am really enjoying it (But still getting the hang of it). This video was so useful. I am based out of Atlanta and most of my clients have darker skin tones so I have been looking for a video like this for so long. I also shared this video in my channels community tab so hopefully, some of my subscribers will show some love too. Take care brother!
This was awesome, thank you for it! Was great to see some real-life applications of the tools that get looked over in most tutorials that are just fly-over. Great content, and great commentary.
Wow!! This was way more specific to my current problem than I was even searching TH-cam for! My friend is teaching in a bright white room and the exposure is so far down he's just a shadow practically
I hope it helped Bam!! I remember being in many situations like that when I was using Premiere and couldn't really do much about it. Once you go Resolve you never go.... back?... Wait, that's not the phrase 🤷🏾♂️
Thank you for your video is was very nice to see how you corrected and made the clip look so much better. Would you consider posting the video clip so that we could follow alone and make the same corrections and get a better feel for what you are showing.
I hope it helps Jamil! The last technique I use to raise the highlights with the qualifier can also be used to bring out highlights that aren't very prominent. 👊
REALLY appreciate your tutorials. +1 SUB. One quick tip I learnt today from a 2hour Resolve 15 'official' colour training video on TH-cam... - ALT + S is a new serial node 'WITH' Power Window - ALT + C is a new serial node 'without' Power Window (which I always used myself, deleting the PW every time!) Anyway, I've learnt so much from your channel, so just returning a 'small' ARHHH moment tip in return!! Keep up the good work.
Thank you Marcus!! Really appreciate the kind words man 👊✌ ... For me those hot keys are the exact opposite. Alt+C adds a new node with power window, Alt+S is just a new serial node
I love this. One of my biggest complaints while watching TV and movies is the poor lighting on black skin/poor color correcting on black skin. All too often I can see power windows in the finished product. The compression algorithms at Netflix and Amazon are not kind to Resolves power windows sometimes. They will appear almost as blue or grey floating circles around black faces. I suppose this could be a case of the colorists just not spending the time per shot that you have here too. Even in their quickness as professional color graders, they skimp.
That is a very interesting observation but spot on. I personally like to take my time, one a company sends it out to TV or Web your work is out there for good but sometimes you have time constraints that you can't push.
13:30 lol. I thought there was a much intimidating approach to colour Dark skin, thanks for clearing that. Is too much to ask for raw files of this piece to play with?
Can you make a video on how to color grade a scene that has changes in lighting? Like a shot that moves from inside to outside or a scene where lighting changes over time.
The Modern Filmmaker your attention to detail is awesome. What would you think about doing a video of editing your subscriber footage. Showing what you would do with it?
Great job once again Marcel I would say the real difficulties begin when the person on the footage is moving (and changing direction) through different lighting conditions.. That would be a cool tutorial! thx again
Great vid. My name is Braden as well. Not many of us out there so it brought a smile to my face. Question: what are the best IRE values for darker skin tone exposures?
you filmed this in slog, right? i'm struggling with slog 2 settings, i have a sony A7 mark 3...what are the best settings? can you help me with this? can you do a video on slog settings and the right exposition......thanks
This was filmed in V-log with a Panasonic GH5 but with any type of log i can tell you that getting a good White Balance and Exposure when shooting make a huge difference in the end result
This laptop delivers some very surprising performance. It only has an i7 6700HQ, NVIDIA GTX 960m and 8GB of ram. A couple years ago I put an M.2 solid state hard drive in it and that REALLY sped things up. It also only has a 1080p screen and that probably helps.
Interesting - I’ll need to do a little more research on the skin tone line. I took the Color Grading Academy course by Denver Riddle and he states that darker skin tones should fall just to the right of the skin tone line since they tend to have more reds in them... The end result came out great either way though man, this was definitely helpful.
Thank you for your comment! Although I have shot a far amount of darker people I am also a fan of Denver Riddle and even I would usually take his advice over mine 😬😂
Awesome, who says you can’t teach a old dog new tricks. I learned a lot from your channel. Keep it coming! I do have a question, have you used the surface control? And if so will you be showing that in future?
Glad to help Gregory! I do not currently use a controller but I have definitely been looking at them. I will upload a video on it the second I get one.
I would love to see a video about color grading black people with premiere pro if possible. I need it so I can color grade myself in my videos 😂 great work.
Thanks Ty! This was shot with the GH5 with the 25mm f1.4 in Cinelike D color profile. I later converted the clip to DNxHR before putting in resolve. 👊✌
@@TheModernFilmmaker Ok cool... This footage is CRISPY, I really appreciate what you're doing here... Last thing, what is the reason for the DNxHR conversion before going into resolve?
Ok, so I just download this resolve 16 but I have a problem. How can I fix the audio waveform if the audio waveform won't show up no matter what I do? (Sorry for bad english)
This could be an issue with the actual program. Sometimes the wave forms will not show up for me in the "Edit" tab but they do show up in the "Fairlight" tab.
There's one step I didn't like and that's darkening the skin, as it makes the lips way to bright. Also you should have darkened the neck. But I learned A LOT about masking and what on earth that MD value was.
