If you've been having consistent connection errors since like sizzle season last year, that's 100% a problem with your internet. This hasn't been a relevant problem with the game in like a year
I hope they fix connection error they better it is pissing me off a lot at bad timings and they might still be other stuff happening in splatoon 3 but will see and hopefully splatoon 4 will be better and live longer and whatever this so called Nintendo switch 2 is hopefully it will be stronger but will see as well
Also to debunk the "Splatoon 3 Deluxe" theory, all ports/remasters from Nintendo have a extra letter in their codename, for example Super Mario 3D World is "codename: RedCarpet", while the Switch port is "codename: RedCarpet-S". And since we know that only one project from Nintendo HAS a remastered planned for the next console (Breath of the Wild with the codename: U-King and the remastered with the codename: U-King-O), this is a completely brand new Splatoon game. Speculation around Spiral is that Nintendo is focusing in this game for the next console and Splatoon 3 was left in a rushed state. Guess we will have to wait a while to see Spiral be a thing.
remastering BOTW is a really weird move. Like, I enjoy it more than totk but there's no ignoring the fact that the new additions of TOTK make BOTW feel a bit worse to play and a bit smaller of a world, unless they do some significant DLC/new content for the game which usually doesn't happen in remasters, it's just gonna feel odd and out of place

yep yep, this exactly. i’d love a single-player and story focused splatoon game. there’s been such a vibrant world built around the franchise and i’d love for them to expand the scope even further and give us insight on life outside of ink-sports and more on other species and stuff like that. and yakuza-style silly side missions sound so good. i think there’s a lot that can be done to explore splatoon’s world and my hopes is that the next game isn’t a splatoon 4 but is something Really Different
Biggest things s4 should have - •24 hour open challenges, the same way s3 made salmon run 24 hours after s2 •At least 2 weapon kits at launch for every weapon, 3 for every weapon and some 4th kits by end •New system for weapon kits - most likely a mix of full custom and set where you get a few different kits and you can mix and match the elements in them (like for instance if it existed in s3, you could make a tri stringer with mist and chumps) •More main weapons for non shooter classes - preferably they should all have at least half a page of main weapons barring 2nd kits •Customizable weapon skins/looks •A new ranked mode •At least 16 maps to start

They should also make a rework to the rotation system. I'd either make it like Mario Kart 8 and have a very small selection of maps you can choose from before the match starts or just increase how many stages are in the rotation, I think at the very least 4 maps. I think the rotation system and the kit system are the worst aspects of the game and need to be properly addressed in the next entry. Custom kits is a good solution but also I like the idea of every weapon getting both a utility sub and a bomb. The L button is still completely unused and would be a good way to utilize it. Pearl Drone as a permanent movement option in multiplayer I also think would be a good addition, I still remember myself subconsciously trying to use it after I completed Side Order. Lastly, I think it's absolutely ridiculous that three games in we still only have two communication options on the d-pad one of which being useless outside of one special. Please add the other two for the love of god

The updste cycle of slatoon 3 is not the problem. It's the ammount they've done in each patch. Knowing that there's update every 1.5 month or so and a larger one every 3, has kept the game fresh atleast for me for the games whole life cycle so far. Can't say the same abojt splatoon 2's update model
My life has gotten pretty busy and I haven’t played much at all, sometimes even for many months. And to realize the game might have reach the end of support saddens me, like I missed a rare once in a awhile important party. I still enjoy the game a lot.
If anything, EPD 5's probably focused on Animal Crossing for the Switch 2 right now (after the success of New Horizons) & only recently started drafting up ideas for Splatoon 4. And as you said, there's no reason to do a Splatoon 3 Deluxe if the Switch 2 is backwards compatible as the rumors suggest. Not to mention the potential concern of splitting the player base if they did a separate Switch 2 version of Splatoon 3 that can't queue up with Switch 1 players.

I really hope they keep doing Splatfests in drizzle season 2024 and onward. But there’s a lot of evidence they won’t, the final Splatfest could be in August/September after summer nights in July which is really sad.
They have probably had the 4rth game in development since they were working on the paid DLC for 3, the way these things typically go is that they work in parallel with other projects someone will have a good idea but it wouldn't be an appropriate fit for what they are currently working on so they put it off to a side project. Assuming nothing has gone wrong during development and they haven't ballooned in scope too much I would expect the next game to be released around 2026 but if the "Swich successor" does have an enhanced backwards comparability feature I could see them as willing to wait a bit longer before releasing the next game but I feel like Nintendo and Hisashi Nogami would want people to have a fresh and new experience to go with the new console as soon as possible. I can't remember who said this or exactly what they said but I think someone on the development team for Splatoon 2 said in response to a question about the game not having all the content from Splatoon 1 that "I like the soft reset of a new game, for old and new players it makes it less overwhelming to only have a limited amount of things to learn and it's fun for more skilled players to re-earn their way back to the top." On one hand if they rely on Splatoon 3 for too long they don't really have this opportunity for new players to get a fresh start to go along with the new console but if they release Splatoon 4 too early it might not have the number of console owners they are hoping for and the player base might become fragmented with many "new players" having missed their opportunity to play the game while it's still "new". But also most critics don't really seem to care about that sort of thing and will scoff at the games "lack of content" and I imagine the silent majority of new players think they agree with the critics but in reality they are unaware of just how overwhelming it is to have 70+ different weapons on 30+ stages. Personally I think a majority of players would want the new game sooner rather than later, I think most of the people that would get the game at launch would also get the new console at or around launch. They certainly want a good launch year or two with lots of titles to go with it so I wouldn't be surprised if they treated Splatoon 4 as a system seller. But also this is just a leaked title that doesn't mean much it could be a new animal crossing game or it might be a project that never even sees completion, however Splatoon 4 will happen in some for regardless of what this project is.
I can imagine Splatoon 4 being Splatoon 3 with a minimal amount of changes. Similar to COD's game releases which means Splatoon will officially become Call of Mari.
Also a spinoff for Splatoon could very well be story only, which would be really cool, and I know A LOT of people want. It wouldn't just be as simple as a Splatoon story mode, it'd be huge, with lots of story, levels, missions, features, and things to complete. Also, it definitely wouldn't sell like a mainline game, but that's to be expected right? With it being a spinoff, it wouldn't be a big deal if the next mainline game released soon after

Barely started? Not quite, Splatoon 3 has reached it's last year of major content, which was stated that Splatoon 3 was gonna have only two years of content in the direct. Same thing happened with Splatoon 2 also lasting two years of major content. It's expected we won't see this new Splatoon game, in theory, 3 to 4 years from now.
i really think they should make a spinoff of splatoon where it's just side order but fully fleshed out, instead of just being a side campaign i really liked side order, but it was just too short i want more side order

Honestly, I actually think this may be a sequel to ARMS. Spirals suit that game’s springy arms and swirly eyes, and ARMS has urban aesthetics that can blend in with Splatoon’s at a quick glance. I think if they focus on movement tech and stretchy parkour in that game, it could really tie everything together. Splatoon has great movement and it makes sense that they’d be up to handle ARMS. We are 100% getting a Splatoon 4, and it’s likely being planned right now, but I doubt that they’re gonna jump ship from 3 before FinalFest.
It's not that they couldn't make spin-offs or they wouldn't work/sell well. It's just I just don't expect them. Plus the spin-off can obviously be lower budget than a mainline game and cost less or have different sales expectations. You wouldn't expect Splatoons core shooter team probably wouldn't to be put on a project like that too it would be mostly someone else or a different internal studio
Spinoff games kind of make less sense in the modern game market where DLC exists and also the mobile market having absorbed handhelds. I could see Nintendo putting out a tableturf minigame for mobile, maybe, but not a fully fledged console release, for example

I'll give you a spinoff: a racer game with weapons, defense mechanisms, and stickers for decoration. I would LOVE to see that. Imagine the dogfights, standard carts, and motorboats full of different weapons and speed adjustments
I feel this is why people have the impression that S3 was a stopgap game. It wouldn't make sense having an entry that goes all out on the same system when you know you have a new system planned. The next Splatoon game will hopefully take full advantage of the switch successor's capabilities and will be absolutely huge. That's not to say S3 was entirely mediocre, it fixed a LOT of problems S2 had, and I personally feel there's no reason to go back to playing S2 when S3 fixed so much and improved on things. The Decavitator for example is so much fun to play. My main hopes are for improved motion controls, bigger maps, removing the rotation system and a new ranking system as well as having non-competitive modes.
You can make a spinoff from anything into anything, especially a prominent franchise like Splatoon. The IP is incredibly deep and there is so much potential that is currently unexplored, so I could easily see Nintendo making a Splatoon spinoff in a different style of game
What I want to see for Splatoon 4: - 4 **male** idols - singular unique ability for pants with different styles - 8 vs 8 mode (if the Switch 2 can handle it) - unique 8v8 map (10 minute duration mode) - everyday challenges - make the L button on the controller do something in the game - new rank mode - better and more unique maps (Splatoon 3 maps improved but they aren't eye catching or interesting except a few) - Have servers instead of peer to peer connection - give private battles more customizable options - given the option to toggle seeing how many players are currently in the lobby while in the lobby waiting room - a few new added default colors instead of waiting for splatfest every time - new way of earning seashells - make splats real-time so it don't look like an inch off-kill (servers gonna fix) - gliding ink-rails in multiplayer matches - an area hub where you can see players moving in real-time not only in anarchy/turf - the new area hub allowing to toggle the emotes you get from the victory screen - having our own apartments, customising them as self expression (also keeping the lockers ofcourse) - new weapon classes and sub weapon classes - add the Splatoon 1 feature where you could see your abilities being active in the top right below the special icon - see which players name splatted who in the screen - make the splatoon app available worldwide (it's not available in my region - easier way of adding friends from matches - simple side quests for different weapons/subs to encourage using other weapons and earn rewards

Midori has also reported things like the persona 4 remake just beginning production, I imagine this is the same story. I doubt we see splatoon 4 until at least year 3 of the new system
Games take so many years to make and with Nintendo usually held off once they're finished so there's pretty much no chance they have splatoon 4 ready for a few years They're only just now likely wrapping up development on splatoon 3 so it's time to move on to the next project

Personally I think they should just give each species their own abilities, like for instance if they made mantas playable, they they can glide but are completely defenseless while doing so. Or Octolings can temporarily camouflage for like five seconds, or that squids could use super jump as a weapon

I know everyone is ready for switch 2 and splatoon 4 but I just got the oled in December as my first switch so I'm still playing splatoon 3 and zelda like they are brand new so I can wait, I still haven't even tried out splatoon 2 or breath of the wild yet I'm going backwards lmao
I just want more routes in maps, 2nd kits on release, them fixing the charger paint and them actually getting servers. These things COULD happen in splatoon 3 but i don't think they would . What i really do like and would like them to keep is challenges and more events.
@stripedrajang3571 well currently, especially with bamboo, if you paint over a couple different surfaces the paint just doesn't get put down. I think this is because when you shoot with a charger, 3 bits of ink come out so it only paints where they land first, i THINK
Of course a new Splatoon entry is in the works but just as you said, I doubt it would be a spinoff or S3 Deluxe. Those Deluxe versions mainly exist because the WiiU sold poorly, even all the S1 stuff in Splatoon 3 is more of a throwback to carry over the original Splatoon's legacy in some way (let's not talk about maps for once). Having the minigames as standalones would be funny and I'd love to see Harmony's 8bit games from the trailers but I think that would have worked better if we still had the 3DS as active platform outside of homebrew. The Switch 2 is in the works and Nintendo prepares everything for it, even Metroid Prime 4 is probably a crossgen title or is shifted towards the new machine completely, I guess.
Splatoon reminds me of a fact of life, it's really hard to let go. Even if splatoon may come back, lets agree that one day it might be done forever, and that it's okay. After all, if Splatoon had just been a mario game, if Nintendo kept doing what we expected them to do, we would have never gotten splatoon.
The way DOOM was designed from the start for single player makes it different from a multiplayer shooter's solo campaign. In that sense I would be excited to see what they could do with Splatoon's combat if they went all in on creating the best single player experience possible. Splatoon 4 will also be fun, of course.
I'm keeping low expectations and Splatoon 3 isn't exactly done yet. Whatever and whenever Nintendo decides to tell us something, we'll know then. Otherwise, I don't see the point in speculating much about that.

I would disagree about release, I think they know splatoon 4 means switch 2 sales. Of course you’ll be able to play splatoon 3, so I think we’re looking at year or two till next installment.
The way you put it in the video makes it sound like you’re not expecting 4 till at least 2028, and if we were talking about the next Zelda or 3D Mario I’d agree with you. However, I’m going to make a call: we will have Splatoon 4 by Christmas 2026 However I’ve believed (with no real evidence other than speculation, admittedly) that Splatoon 3’s entire existence was that of a stopgap between the end of smash DLC and us getting the Switch 2 into the news cycle. There’s a few speculative reasons I believe this including the rumor the switch was pushed back from a 2024 release to 2025 and the way content releases have felt… stretched a bit thin compared to what we got in Splat 2, and my own personal belief that the reason we haven’t really seen Nogami in any of the splatoon promotional material is that he isn’t proud of splat 3 . it wasn’t supposed to come out yet, but they had something that was good enough to hand off to the B team (which is why the maps aren’t as creative as past games) while the main team continues to work on (well, maybe the next animal crossing, but for the sake of my argument here) splatoon 4
if it is S4 then i'd hope its more open world at least campaign wise. When the original reveal for S3 dropped it looked like it was going to be (imo) but as we all know it was just more splatoon
Splatoon 3 is legit not even 2 years old yet. I'm glad you made this video. I would like to hear a little less, "I can't wait for S4, hope they give news soon!" or "Think S4 will be at the next direct?" or even the classic "Bye Big Run and Splat Fest! See you in S4!" The game is still a small child. Don't let Splatoon become the next Call of Duty franchise where they spit out a game with so much potential and then dump it for a new one in 2 years. Let this game cook, it's a very fun game as it stands and still has so much content. Like it's actually insane how much content Splatoon 3 has. I get being excited for the future, but don't take for granted the fun game we currently have :) P.S. I know this sounds harsh or aggressive, I just don't enjoy when games make a sequel every year or so. It just upsets me to see people doing nothing but digging for a new game when they are living in the time of a very fun game. Don't take what we have for granted! Sure it could be better, but it could also be much worse!
Glad to hear they have most likely entered pre-production even if it was a given. I think Splatoon 4 being announced within the first two years of the Switch 2's "existence" is a pretty safe bet. I don't think Splatoon 3 Deluxe would ever happen too, for a few main reasons. 1) Splatoon is a major seller in Japan. Like bigger than Pokemon big. I doubt the core Splatoon team gets taken off Splatoon for the first time in a decade and put on something else for a couple years. 2) Deluxe content splits online player bases between haves and have-nots. The video game industry moved away from this in shooters a long time ago. EA SW Battlefront 2015 DLC was basically the end of it. And I don't expect Nintendo to be worse in this aspect. There's no reason it would sell well unless it was a very significant amount of content and at that point mine as well make a new game. 3) We have reasons to believe the Switch 2 will have backwards compatibility patches. Some sort of backwards compatibly even if limited is basically a given for in Nintendo's words the next console added to the "Switch line-up." And it makes too much sense for a multitude of reasons business and otherwise.
hope it is adventure mode. with turf war and tower defense and many more. cuz the adventures on splatoon is as fun as super mario but the bosses are just low. only 3 shots and boom. not enough bosses.
It's too early for a Splatoon 4, but they could definitely be revamping S3 for the new Switch, maybe special DLC-type content that will only be available on the new one. Also, while I know Nintendo doesn't like to do this, and I know it's controversial with fans, I think Splatoon is a perfect game to have free-to-play multiplayer. If they make a revamped S3 FTP on the new Switch, it could encourage a lot of people to pick up the new console and have something to play immediately. Again, I know this isn't Nintendo's general biz strategy, so it's unlikely, but it makes business sense.
I am about 90% sure that Midori is right. Saying "Splatoon 4 is in the works" is an extremely vague statement. I see it as a very safe statement for a game leaker to say. All the pieces fall into place for Splatoon 4 to be released with the Switch 2 or at least very soon after that since Splatoon is one of Nintendo's most successful series. I just hope that it isn't rushed and is high quality even for the series.
The big reason the Switch isn't backwards compatible with the Wii U is because Nintendo moved away from the PowerPC platform (GC, Wii, Wii U) to Nvidia's Tegra ARM platform. It has been confirmed that Nintendo and Nvidia have stuck a deal on which chipset the new system will use, so my guess is this Spiral code name project, is going to be getting Splatoon 3 to be cross-platform between the old and new Tegra chips in the Switch and it's successor.
We had a rumor about backwards compatibility patches being worked on for the Switch 2 awhile ago. I wonder if it could be that. Maybe if they don't have Nvidia find a way to have the apu emulate the old one
If Splatoon 4 will be the same or very similar to Splatoon 3, then it will be last Splatoon for me. I hate PvP part in Splatoon 3. It's too chaotic for my taste compare to S1 or even S2. I hope S4 will be closer to S1 with pace and focusing more on players aim/accuracy (as S1) than avoiding specials every 5 seconds.
Weird, the impression most of us got from S1 was very chaotic (also thanks to the specials mind you) But it was a fun and casual chaos, as opposed to the sweaty nature this franchise has assumed since S2
Maybe, just maybe(!!!!!!!!!!) splatoon 3 is just a temporary game especially when the new console is right around the corner. Makes sense if we take a look at the splatoon 1 that had it's updates for 2 years and then the switch came out with splatoon 2 on the board 2 months later
The only reason I could see Nintendo fast tracking Splatoon 4 is because Splatoon is Nintendo's premier online franchise and if their new system prioritizes better, more stable online servers, and incorporates better, more intuitive features, then I could see them wanting to show those features off with their most prominent online title: Splatoon 4. Remember, they only spent 2 years to make Splatoon 2, so it's not impossible that Splatoon 4 could be ready within the new system's first year on the market. I'm not saying I want this necessarily, but it would be the most effective way to showcase new online features to the masses!
Splatoon 3 is the one using their newest only infrastructure though: it's the first game to use NEX when every only game before then used the same system they've been using since the 3DS.
Yeah, I don't think it's a spin-off at ALL. I honestly have no idea how that idea began spreading within the community. It really wouldn't make sense with the type of genre Splatoon is as a game, nor would it sell very well. The majority of Splatoon players play it for multiplayer battles, not single-player or tableturf or anything else. The additional content is of course a nice bonus, but from a sales perspective I just don't see Nintendo actually going through with a Splatoon spin-off.
Yeah Foamstars ain't it. I think S3 wasn't S2 DLC because the number 4 is important. Switch does not support 4 player split screen. The hardware is too weak. But the next Nintendo console hopefully can do it. 4 player teams for online, 2 consoles. 4 player coop campaign. 4 player rogue like mode. 4 player Grizzco. 4 player couch coop is the reason why Mario Kart and Smash are so huge. I would argue that Splatoon could be bigger than both. The gameplay is better, but it's still E rated unlike Smash. So you got kids and try hard adults both. They really need a better anti Smurf strategy though. I think many casual players are being turned away because they get destroyed by people rank resetting. It's worse now that it's sanctioned. Other S4 features could include: built in voice chat, bigger battles (4v4v4v4)(8v8), voice acting, tone down the odd sea life themes for broader appeal, revamp the community posting system so that it's not so easy to post sexual/preachy/political materials, etc.
Would be a shame if the Switch 2 isn't backwards compatable with the Switch (1). Id hate to HAVE to put down 400 dollars to if i want to play the next splatoon game.
Let it be a splatoon spin off _please._ That'd be so awesome and we don't need splatoon 4. Just let splatoon 3 be fully backwards compatible or give us splatoon 3 deluxe on the switch 2 or whatever. They added a badge that'll take half a decade to unlock, they can't just kill the game before anyone could've even unlocked it.
Also I think a Splatoon spin-off is totally viable. An entire game around tableturf might not work, but they could totally make an entire game around salmon run that's entirely PvE, or one based on side order that explores the roguelike side more. Heck, they could even do both: imagine side order with multiplayer where you both get to chose your own upgrades and abilities to take on challenges together. There's a lot of ideas in both salmon run and side order that don't really have any place in the PvP side of splatoon (There's a reason grizzco weapons are literally illegal), so having an entire game dedicated to fleshing them out would be really cool I think.
Honestly: I don't even want a SPlatoon 4. All the weapon unlocks, gear stuff you unlocked in Splat 3 will not carry over. I had the same feeling when leaving Splatoon 2 :/ Feels like you are leaving items behind when the games are, after all, very similar

Also to debunk the "Splatoon 3 Deluxe" theory, all ports/remasters from Nintendo have a extra letter in their codename, for example Super Mario 3D World is "codename: RedCarpet", while the Switch port is "codename: RedCarpet-S".
And since we know that only one project from Nintendo HAS a remastered planned for the next console (Breath of the Wild with the codename: U-King and the remastered with the codename: U-King-O), this is a completely brand new Splatoon game. Speculation around Spiral is that Nintendo is focusing in this game for the next console and Splatoon 3 was left in a rushed state.

remastering BOTW is a really weird move. Like, I enjoy it more than totk but there's no ignoring the fact that the new additions of TOTK make BOTW feel a bit worse to play and a bit smaller of a world, unless they do some significant DLC/new content for the game which usually doesn't happen in remasters, it's just gonna feel odd and out of place

yep yep, this exactly. i’d love a single-player and story focused splatoon game. there’s been such a vibrant world built around the franchise and i’d love for them to expand the scope even further and give us insight on life outside of ink-sports and more on other species and stuff like that. and yakuza-style silly side missions sound so good. i think there’s a lot that can be done to explore splatoon’s world and my hopes is that the next game isn’t a splatoon 4 but is something Really Different
Biggest things s4 should have -
•24 hour open challenges, the same way s3 made salmon run 24 hours after s2
•At least 2 weapon kits at launch for every weapon, 3 for every weapon and some 4th kits by end
•New system for weapon kits - most likely a mix of full custom and set where you get a few different kits and you can mix and match the elements in them (like for instance if it existed in s3, you could make a tri stringer with mist and chumps)
•More main weapons for non shooter classes - preferably they should all have at least half a page of main weapons barring 2nd kits
•Customizable weapon skins/looks
•A new ranked mode
•At least 16 maps to start

2 if they make kits customizable their power would decreases sadly otherwise balancing would be way out of whack

They should also make a rework to the rotation system. I'd either make it like Mario Kart 8 and have a very small selection of maps you can choose from before the match starts or just increase how many stages are in the rotation, I think at the very least 4 maps. I think the rotation system and the kit system are the worst aspects of the game and need to be properly addressed in the next entry. Custom kits is a good solution but also I like the idea of every weapon getting both a utility sub and a bomb. The L button is still completely unused and would be a good way to utilize it. Pearl Drone as a permanent movement option in multiplayer I also think would be a good addition, I still remember myself subconsciously trying to use it after I completed Side Order. Lastly, I think it's absolutely ridiculous that three games in we still only have two communication options on the d-pad one of which being useless outside of one special. Please add the other two for the love of god

The updste cycle of slatoon 3 is not the problem. It's the ammount they've done in each patch. Knowing that there's update every 1.5 month or so and a larger one every 3, has kept the game fresh atleast for me for the games whole life cycle so far. Can't say the same abojt splatoon 2's update model
My life has gotten pretty busy and I haven’t played much at all, sometimes even for many months. And to realize the game might have reach the end of support saddens me, like I missed a rare once in a awhile important party. I still enjoy the game a lot.
If anything, EPD 5's probably focused on Animal Crossing for the Switch 2 right now (after the success of New Horizons) & only recently started drafting up ideas for Splatoon 4. And as you said, there's no reason to do a Splatoon 3 Deluxe if the Switch 2 is backwards compatible as the rumors suggest. Not to mention the potential concern of splitting the player base if they did a separate Switch 2 version of Splatoon 3 that can't queue up with Switch 1 players.

I really hope they keep doing Splatfests in drizzle season 2024 and onward. But there’s a lot of evidence they won’t, the final Splatfest could be in August/September after summer nights in July which is really sad.
They have probably had the 4rth game in development since they were working on the paid DLC for 3, the way these things typically go is that they work in parallel with other projects someone will have a good idea but it wouldn't be an appropriate fit for what they are currently working on so they put it off to a side project.
Assuming nothing has gone wrong during development and they haven't ballooned in scope too much I would expect the next game to be released around 2026 but if the "Swich successor" does have an enhanced backwards comparability feature I could see them as willing to wait a bit longer before releasing the next game but I feel like Nintendo and Hisashi Nogami would want people to have a fresh and new experience to go with the new console as soon as possible.
I can't remember who said this or exactly what they said but I think someone on the development team for Splatoon 2 said in response to a question about the game not having all the content from Splatoon 1 that "I like the soft reset of a new game, for old and new players it makes it less overwhelming to only have a limited amount of things to learn and it's fun for more skilled players to re-earn their way back to the top."
On one hand if they rely on Splatoon 3 for too long they don't really have this opportunity for new players to get a fresh start to go along with the new console but if they release Splatoon 4 too early it might not have the number of console owners they are hoping for and the player base might become fragmented with many "new players" having missed their opportunity to play the game while it's still "new". But also most critics don't really seem to care about that sort of thing and will scoff at the games "lack of content" and I imagine the silent majority of new players think they agree with the critics but in reality they are unaware of just how overwhelming it is to have 70+ different weapons on 30+ stages.
Personally I think a majority of players would want the new game sooner rather than later, I think most of the people that would get the game at launch would also get the new console at or around launch. They certainly want a good launch year or two with lots of titles to go with it so I wouldn't be surprised if they treated Splatoon 4 as a system seller. But also this is just a leaked title that doesn't mean much it could be a new animal crossing game or it might be a project that never even sees completion, however Splatoon 4 will happen in some for regardless of what this project is.
I can imagine Splatoon 4 being Splatoon 3 with a minimal amount of changes. Similar to COD's game releases which means Splatoon will officially become Call of Mari.

Also a spinoff for Splatoon could very well be story only, which would be really cool, and I know A LOT of people want. It wouldn't just be as simple as a Splatoon story mode, it'd be huge, with lots of story, levels, missions, features, and things to complete. Honestly, I actually think this may be a sequel to ARMS. Spirals suit that game’s springy arms and swirly eyes, and ARMS has urban aesthetics that can blend in with Splatoon’s at a quick glance. I think if they focus on movement tech and stretchy parkour in that game, it could really tie everything together. Splatoon has great movement and it makes sense that they’d be up to handle ARMS.
We are 100% getting a Splatoon 4, and it’s likely being planned right now, but I doubt that they’re gonna jump ship from 3 before FinalFest.
There’s no reason for EPD 10 to do ARMS 2 right now, they have the next Mario Kart to worry about. I do think it could happen after that, though.

It's not that they couldn't make spin-offs or they wouldn't work/sell well. It's just I just don't expect them. Plus the spin-off can obviously be lower budget than a mainline game and cost less or have different sales expectations. You wouldn't expect Splatoons core shooter team probably wouldn't to be put on a project like that too it would be mostly someone else or a different internal studio
Spinoff games kind of make less sense in the modern game market where DLC exists and also the mobile market having absorbed handhelds. I could see Nintendo putting out a tableturf minigame for mobile, maybe, but not a fully fledged console release, for example

I'll give you a spinoff: a racer game with weapons, defense mechanisms, and stickers for decoration. I would LOVE to see that. Imagine the dogfights, standard carts, and motorboats full of different weapons and speed adjustments
I feel this is why people have the impression that S3 was a stopgap game. It wouldn't make sense having an entry that goes all out on the same system when you know you have a new system planned. The next Splatoon game will hopefully take full advantage of the switch successor's capabilities and will be absolutely huge. That's not to say S3 was entirely mediocre, it fixed a LOT of problems S2 had, and I personally feel there's no reason to go back to playing S2 when S3 fixed so much and improved on things. The Decavitator for example is so much fun to play. My main hopes are for improved motion controls, bigger maps, removing the rotation system and a new ranking system as well as having non-competitive modes.
If there is a Splatoon 4 I hope the inklings will be teenagers because that would be epic
You can make a spinoff from anything into anything, especially a prominent franchise like Splatoon. The IP is incredibly deep and there is so much potential that is currently unexplored, so I could easily see Nintendo making a Splatoon spinoff in a different style of game
What I want to see for Splatoon 4:
- 4 **male** idols
- singular unique ability for pants with different styles
- 8 vs 8 mode (if the Switch 2 can handle it)
- unique 8v8 map (10 minute duration mode)
- everyday challenges
- make the L button on the controller do something in the game
- new rank mode
- better and more unique maps (Splatoon 3 maps improved but they aren't eye catching or interesting except a few)
- Have servers instead of peer to peer connection
- give private battles more customizable options
- given the option to toggle seeing how many players are currently in the lobby while in the lobby waiting room
- a few new added default colors instead of waiting for splatfest every time
- new way of earning seashells
- make splats real-time so it don't look like an inch off-kill (servers gonna fix)
- gliding ink-rails in multiplayer matches
- an area hub where you can see players moving in real-time not only in anarchy/turf
- the new area hub allowing to toggle the emotes you get from the victory screen
- having our own apartments, customising them as self expression (also keeping the lockers ofcourse)
- new weapon classes and sub weapon classes
- add the Splatoon 1 feature where you could see your abilities being active in the top right below the special icon
- see which players name splatted who in the screen
- make the splatoon app available worldwide (it's not available in my region
- easier way of adding friends from matches
- simple side quests for different weapons/subs to encourage using other weapons and earn rewards

I just want more routes in maps, 2nd kits on release, them fixing the charger paint and them actually getting servers. These things COULD happen in splatoon 3 but i don't think they would . What i really do like and would like them to keep is challenges and more events.

@stripedrajang3571 well currently, especially with bamboo, if you paint over a couple different surfaces the paint just doesn't get put down. I think this is because when you shoot with a charger, 3 bits of ink come out so it only paints where they land first, i THINK
Of course a new Splatoon entry is in the works but just as you said, I doubt it would be a spinoff or S3 Deluxe.
Those Deluxe versions mainly exist because the WiiU sold poorly, even all the S1 stuff in Splatoon 3 is more of a throwback to carry over the original Splatoon's legacy in some way (let's not talk about maps for once).
Having the minigames as standalones would be funny and I'd love to see Harmony's 8bit games from the trailers but I think that would have worked better if we still had the 3DS as active platform outside of homebrew.
The Switch 2 is in the works and Nintendo prepares everything for it, even Metroid Prime 4 is probably a crossgen title or is shifted towards the new machine completely, I guess.

A Splatoon RPG! I’m thinking of Miitopia as inspiration or even the new Mario RPG. Still keeping shooter elements somehow maybe more like an mmorpg
Splatoon reminds me of a fact of life, it's really hard to let go. Even if splatoon may come back, lets agree that one day it might be done forever, and that it's okay. After all, if Splatoon had just been a mario game, if Nintendo kept doing what we expected them to do, we would have never gotten splatoon.
The way DOOM was designed from the start for single player makes it different from a multiplayer shooter's solo campaign. In that sense I would be excited to see what they could do with Splatoon's combat if they went all in on creating the best single player experience possible. Splatoon 4 will also be fun, of course.
I'm keeping low expectations and Splatoon 3 isn't exactly done yet. Whatever and whenever Nintendo decides to tell us something, we'll know then.
Otherwise, I don't see the point in speculating much about that.

However I’ve believed (with no real evidence other than speculation, admittedly) that Splatoon 3’s entire existence was that of a stopgap between the end of smash DLC and us getting the Switch 2 into the news cycle.
There’s a few speculative reasons I believe this including the rumor the switch was pushed back from a 2024 release to 2025 and the way content releases have felt… stretched a bit thin compared to what we got in Splat 2, and my own personal belief that the reason we haven’t really seen Nogami in any of the splatoon promotional material is that he isn’t proud of splat 3 . it wasn’t supposed to come out yet, but they had something that was good enough to hand off to the B team (which is why the maps aren’t as creative as past games) while the main team continues to work on (well, maybe the next animal crossing, but for the sake of my argument here) splatoon 4

The game is still a small child. Don't let Splatoon become the next Call of Duty franchise where they spit out a game with so much potential and then dump it for a new one in 2 years.
Let this game cook, it's a very fun game as it stands and still has so much content. Like it's actually insane how much content Splatoon 3 has. I get being excited for the future, but don't take for granted the fun game we currently have :)
P.S. I know this sounds harsh or aggressive, I just don't enjoy when games make a sequel every year or so. It just upsets me to see people doing nothing but digging for a new game when they are living in the time of a very fun game. Don't take what we have for granted! Sure it could be better, but it could also be much worse!

I think Splatoon 4 being announced within the first two years of the Switch 2's "existence" is a pretty safe bet.
I don't think Splatoon 3 Deluxe would ever happen too, for a few main reasons.
1) Splatoon is a major seller in Japan. Like bigger than Pokemon big. I doubt the core Splatoon team gets taken off Splatoon for the first time in a decade and put on something else for a couple years.
2) Deluxe content splits online player bases between haves and have-nots. The video game industry moved away from this in shooters a long time ago. EA SW Battlefront 2015 DLC was basically the end of it. And I don't expect Nintendo to be worse in this aspect. There's no reason it would sell well unless it was a very significant amount of content and at that point mine as well make a new game.
3) We have reasons to believe the Switch 2 will have backwards compatibility patches. Some sort of backwards compatibly even if limited is basically a given for in Nintendo's words the next console added to the "Switch line-up." And it makes too much sense for a multitude of reasons business and otherwise.
hope it is adventure mode. with turf war and tower defense and many more. cuz the adventures on splatoon is as fun as super mario but the bosses are just low. only 3 shots and boom. not enough bosses.
It's too early for a Splatoon 4, but they could definitely be revamping S3 for the new Switch, maybe special DLC-type content that will only be available on the new one.
Also, while I know Nintendo doesn't like to do this, and I know it's controversial with fans, I think Splatoon is a perfect game to have free-to-play multiplayer. If they make a revamped S3 FTP on the new Switch, it could encourage a lot of people to pick up the new console and have something to play immediately. Again, I know this isn't Nintendo's general biz strategy, so it's unlikely, but it makes business sense.
I am about 90% sure that Midori is right. Saying "Splatoon 4 is in the works" is an extremely vague statement. I see it as a very safe statement for a game leaker to say. All the pieces fall into place for Splatoon 4 to be released with the Switch 2 or at least very soon after that since Splatoon is one of Nintendo's most successful series. I just hope that it isn't rushed and is high quality even for the series.

The big reason the Switch isn't backwards compatible with the Wii U is because Nintendo moved away from the PowerPC platform (GC, Wii, Wii U) to Nvidia's Tegra ARM platform. It has been confirmed that Nintendo and Nvidia have stuck a deal on which chipset the new system will use, so my guess is this Spiral code name project, is going to be getting Splatoon 3 to be cross-platform between the old and new Tegra chips in the Switch and it's successor.
We had a rumor about backwards compatibility patches being worked on for the Switch 2 awhile ago. I wonder if it could be that. Maybe if they don't have Nvidia find a way to have the apu emulate the old one

If Splatoon 4 will be the same or very similar to Splatoon 3, then it will be last Splatoon for me. I hate PvP part in Splatoon 3. It's too chaotic for my taste compare to S1 or even S2. I hope S4 will be closer to S1 with pace and focusing more on players aim/accuracy (as S1) than avoiding specials every 5 seconds.

Yeah no shot there will be 3 Splatoon games on the same switch
Ngl, id like splatoon 4 to have a 2025/2026 release, maybe 2027 at the very latest. But it definitely needs to be on a new console.
Maybe, just maybe(!!!!!!!!!!) splatoon 3 is just a temporary game especially when the new console is right around the corner. Makes sense if we take a look at the splatoon 1 that had it's updates for 2 years and then the switch came out with splatoon 2 on the board 2 months later

The only reason I could see Nintendo fast tracking Splatoon 4 is because Splatoon is Nintendo's premier online franchise and if their new system prioritizes better, more stable online servers, and incorporates better, more intuitive features, then I could see them wanting to show those features off with their most prominent online title: Splatoon 4. Remember, they only spent 2 years to make Splatoon 2, so it's not impossible that Splatoon 4 could be ready within the new system's first year on the market. I'm not saying I want this necessarily, but it would be the most effective way to showcase new online features to the masses!
Splatoon 3 is the one using their newest only infrastructure though: it's the first game to use NEX when every only game before then used the same system they've been using since the 3DS.

Yeah, I don't think it's a spin-off at ALL. I honestly have no idea how that idea began spreading within the community. It really wouldn't make sense with the type of genre Splatoon is as a game, nor would it sell very well. The majority of Splatoon players play it for multiplayer battles, not single-player or tableturf or anything else. The additional content is of course a nice bonus, but from a sales perspective I just don't see Nintendo actually going through with a Splatoon spin-off.

Yeah Foamstars ain't it. I think S3 wasn't S2 DLC because the number 4 is important. Switch does not support 4 player split screen. The hardware is too weak. But the next Nintendo console hopefully can do it. 4 player teams for online, 2 consoles. 4 player coop campaign. 4 player rogue like mode. 4 player Grizzco. 4 player couch coop is the reason why Mario Kart and Smash are so huge. I would argue that Splatoon could be bigger than both. The gameplay is better, but it's still E rated unlike Smash. So you got kids and try hard adults both. They really need a better anti Smurf strategy though. I think many casual players are being turned away because they get destroyed by people rank resetting. It's worse now that it's sanctioned.
Other S4 features could include: built in voice chat, bigger battles (4v4v4v4)(8v8), voice acting, tone down the odd sea life themes for broader appeal, revamp the community posting system so that it's not so easy to post sexual/preachy/political materials, etc.
Would be a shame if the Switch 2 isn't backwards compatable with the Switch (1). Id hate to HAVE to put down 400 dollars to if i want to play the next splatoon game.
Let it be a splatoon spin off _please._ That'd be so awesome and we don't need splatoon 4. Just let splatoon 3 be fully backwards compatible or give us splatoon 3 deluxe on the switch 2 or whatever. They added a badge that'll take half a decade to unlock, they can't just kill the game before anyone could've even unlocked it.
Also I think a Splatoon spin-off is totally viable. An entire game around tableturf might not work, but they could totally make an entire game around salmon run that's entirely PvE, or one based on side order that explores the roguelike side more. Heck, they could even do both: imagine side order with multiplayer where you both get to chose your own upgrades and abilities to take on challenges together.
There's a lot of ideas in both salmon run and side order that don't really have any place in the PvP side of splatoon (There's a reason grizzco weapons are literally illegal), so having an entire game dedicated to fleshing them out would be really cool I think.
Honestly: I don't even want a SPlatoon 4. All the weapon unlocks, gear stuff you unlocked in Splat 3 will not carry over.

I loved the Octobrush back in S1! I remember playing it like crazy after it was added. I don't even know what it's like in S3, brushes felt weird in S2
