  • This video shows an introduction on the Pull-out Test-Manoeuvre and describes the procedure how to steer through this simple manoeuvre: Turning circle and then put the rudder amidships. The final rate of turn allows to identify stable and unstable conditions. Samples of stable and unstable ships will be shown by Fast Time Simulation using the SAMMON Planning tool. The role of the rudder angle of neutral effect are explained together with a comparison of Spiral test and Pull-out manoeuvres - and also for the so called “Lystergram”. The difference in stability for ahead and astern motion is demonstrated for a tanker in ballast condition.
Finally, a funny discussion of my experience in a rowing boat with my family will boost your imagination and completes the overview on effects of Yawing stability.
The next videos to follow will demonstrate other manoeuvres (Zig-Zag Test) which are also helpful to identify and discuss the yaw stability for ships.
