Hi! If I remove the scape before the seed pod ripens completely, will it continue to mature on its own or in a container of water? I ask bc my lables are falling off and sone of the scapes seem to be drying up now. I'm afraid I'm gonna lose them or get reeealy mixed-up.

What is the burnt orange one's common name?? I would love to do some research. They are very cool looking!!

The burnt orange daylily is known as Hemerocallis Fulva. It has several common names: ditch lily, tiger lily and roadside lily. It is a species daylily which means it retains the trait to spread underground. The hybrid daylilies (which we and most other reputable nurseries sell) don't have this trait. Hybrid daylilies clump up and don't spread underground. Hybrid daylilies are not invasive, but species daylilies can be. Hope this helps!

I'm in Zone 9, along TX gulf coast, south west of Houston TX. Is it necessary to stratify the daylily seeds grown and harvested here..? I ask this because our winters can be very mild, sometimes with only a couple frosty mornings all winter. Love your video and facebook page....! Thanks, Robert R, Wharton, TX

Hi Robert-- thanks for your kind words about our videos and facebook page! We appreciate it
Stratifying seeds is one of those topics that, if you ask three different people, you'll get three different answers. The truth is, some daylily seeds require stratification and others don't. Unless you know the direct genetic parentage of the plant, we suggest you stratify all seeds before planting.

Are the seeds supposed to be shriveled? They also feel like they're completely empty?

If they're shriveled and feel empty they may be duds. Healthy, viable seeds will be smooth and have a bit of heft to them. Not a lot, mind you, because they're so small. But they won't feel empty. It might be worth it to plant a few of the ones you have and just see what happens. It could be a nice surprise!
