When I was 65 my primary car physician during an annual health visit did a quick sensation check on the bottom of my feet. I could not feel it. My B12 blood test was normal although on the low end of normal. She recommended take a B12 supplement with 2000 mg. I did and within 6 days my feet had returned to pretty normal sensation. They continued to improve for more than six months. I continued taking B12 and will for the rest of my life.
I have ideopathic peripheral neuropathy and also had normal b12 levels but low normal. I’ve been taking 2000 mcg of b12 daily for 3 weeks now and my symptoms have diminished significantly. I found this through my own research. My neurologist never mentioned it.
@@SD-co9xe I'm glad to hear that. My chiropractor told me to take vitamin B. I bought a B complex that had only 100 mcg of B12. After further research, I realized I could probably use more. Do you take 2000 mcg all at once or split it up during the day, taking 1000 mcg of B12 at different times of the day?
Answer to prayer. I recently had routine blood work completed. B12 Results @ 1,383, and i was concerned it is too high. From what i gathered from your post is that my body is in an optimal state of repair. It now makes sense for the less inflammation, more energy ( I can go more than 3 hours cleaning) etc. Thank you kindly. 🎉🙌
@@windy42305It’s very common to have high serum B12 when you have a B1 deficiency. If he’s deficient in B1 he can have sufficient and also high serum B12 without utilizing it, a so called functional B12 deficiency. I would definitely add some more B1 supplements like Benfothiamine 3-400mg to my routine if I were him. The B-complex is not enough if he’s deficient in B1.
@@free_soul9154better yet get a mTHFR test/homocysteine levels. Everyone is different Methylated B's has negative sides for me. Un methylated b complex is great for an over methylator because of the gradual conversion.
I started with 1000mcg Methylcobalamin, it was ok, a nice boost to me day. But recently I found some 5,000mcg that dissolve under your tongue. I take them after breakfast and boom I am energized. I am recovering my an illness that prevented me from my daily three mile walk for 5 months, now I am quickly working my way back.
I had to take 35,000 mcg of B12 everyday years ago for 6 months, I then started to reduce it and over a year I had to stabilize at 15 to 20,000 a day for almost a year I’m now at 10,000 a day . I’ve had 5 low back surgeries and 3 neck surgeries. I was also exposed to benzene severely in 88 . And my adrenal glands are enlarged to about the size of a half dollar. It was to the point I didn’t want to get out of bed or take a bath . My family didn’t understand they thought I was just lazy and in self pity. I was praying and praying for help but drs didn’t help . I was woken up one night around 3am to go and research adrenal fatigue. And the video said to take but loads of B12 so I started with 2,000 and each morning I doubled it until I was back up and moving around. It took about two weeks. I was back my garage doing things . I hurt because of my past injuries I’m not on any pain meds and I don’t let the pain stop me as much as it used too . I recover and hit it again, I recover and repeat. I was 27 when exposed to benzene, I’m here because of my prayers and Gods blessing, I was 21 when I broke my back and I was 43 when I injured my neck that was the one the took me out of work. I’m now weeks away from 64 . I still do things but much much slower. But I’m persistent until it’s done . I weld build things do woodwork and I a retired electrician. Each day is a gift even in the pain and believe me it’s painful. Some days I can’t walk , god ask us to praise him even in the valley as well as the mountain top and I can tell you without him I couldn’t make it in those valleys. You would be amazed what he will do for you in just praising him on those difficult days , God is Good ❤
At the age of 35, one day at a very stressful job, I suddenly lost the feeling in the tips of my toes, fingers and the ability to taste also having lost the feeling in my tongue. I also developed a splitting headache, lost a lot of weight and noticed my hair falling out. My doctor instinctively tested for my B12 levels. My levels were so low, that they did not register on the test. She put me on weekly injections and was concerned if I might have developed permanent nerve damage. She said also that because I had premature grey hair, that it was very luckily that I did not absorb B12 well. Luckily, after 6 scary months, I gradually regained all the feeling back with no damage. More than 10 years have passed, and I make sure I take B12 almost daily now.
Thank you once again Dr Omole on TH-cam for this information. Since following you (for some years now), my kidney stage results has decrease from stage 3 to stage 1. You saved me from dialysis. Thank you and please keep the videos coming!! God Bless...
If you’ve ever had Trigeminal Neuralgia, an excruciating facial nerve condition that’s nicknamed “The Suicide Disease,” you wouldn’t think anything is too much when it comes to B12. Because of sublingual Methylcobalamin taken at 5,000 mcg dosage, my TN completely disappeared! It was nothing short of miraculous-keeping me from having to have a scheduled MVD surgery (brain surgery) at UCI in Irvine, Ca. Three years later, I am still symptom free! I still take sublingual 5,000 mcg every two days just to make sure the TN doesn’t come back. Back in the 50’s sublingual B12 was widely used for TN and MS as a first line of treatment. But then Big Pharma arose and… well you know the rest of that story. It’s an all-too familiar one. 😮
Interesting to read your comment. I have intermittent TN and have monthly injections due to low absorption issues. I wonder if I should get my dose increased.
I cannot even understand how b12 can heal cluster/similar. I use the highest one CAN use without making a issue for the rest of the body . Because , its not like one doesnt have a limit ? I use triptan and o2 (8 to twelve bar/high pressure) against cluster /suicidal headache. I couldnt make it without, tbh. No matter supplements. It IS a infection on the back of the eye , right ,so one needs triptans/ergotamine,to contract bloodwessel that is swollen ...i think? Its the only thing that work for me. Even strong petidin/ketamin/morphin wont help. I have tryed everything ,im sure. All neuralgica medication, supplements, botox ,nerve blokade's (waist of time). I have been offered surgery, but the high risc surgery dont often work,so... I thought everyone with this type of headache get high pressure high bar o2 ? And nausia medication ,of course. This type of headache is easy to spot,it makes one eye deep, bright red and swollen, and tears will flow ,constantly (and nose will run,at the same side). The patient cannot lie still , like people with migraine will do. Its a horrible state . But it MIGHT disapear, or at least become a rare thing . So, cross fingers !
One can get nerve damage, higher risc of blood clogs and lung cancer , anemia , and so on, with to much b12. I DO fet you want to take your chance,if your life is filled with those seizuers ,tho. They can destroy lifes, and they do. I know. But i still wonder , dont you have ANY help from 02(it HAS to be with pressure mask, and at least 8 bar for 15 minutes, or it wont work. Normal is 2 bar ,or so...,it IS a lot. But it has to be. I use 10 bar, so i empty a bottle very fast. Has to have those big ones! ). You dont use ANY other help for your seizuers?
Awww yes, big pharma!! That's wonderful that they gave you 5, 000mcg of B12. When they treat cyanide poisoning or malaria they give people 10,000 times the amount of B12 every day until they're better. 10,000 times. Congratulation on finding the help you needed.
One thing important to remember if you want to check your b12 level for a deficiency, do not start supplementing before bloodwork as it will skew your b12 serum levels.
I have problems having energy to do things and thinking faster. Sometimes I think I have depression and mood swings. And B12 has helped me feel normal, energized, positive.
@H-jb4tf thank you for the advice. I try to eat more vegetables now, becus I hardly did growing up…I do noticed when I eat too much carbs I feel so tired.
Thank you for this information and explaining the risks and benefits. My doctor doesn't think B12 levels are not a big deal so I am in this on my own. YT vids are helpful but reading the research lit answers many of the questions you have answered. Again, thank you.
Many physicians are not dialed into supplements as essential to older people. They like medicine to treat your high illness, like blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc.
This is an awesome video. And I am SO GLAD I stumbled across it. I was researching a prep used for vertigo, and got more info that I needed because my husband has recently dianosed dementia, at 83. The meds for dementia have horrible side effects, and I took him off them pronto. I am convinced now, that the tiny dose of B12, that the NP recommended was a moot point, especially because she failed him at every turn, saying that his 104 weight, down from 140 was nothing to worry about. It turned out to be colon cancer. I got another opinion. Now, his memory is so short, and he gets lost if he has to make more than one turn, so now, I do EVERYTHING. l fully intend to put him on a high dose of B12, and a prep, I looked into for my vertigo has a high dose. I have him on MCT oil, and Benfotiamine3, and D3, 4,ooo, plus k2. Other than the memory and directional issues, he does very well. Gets wholesome food, and good sleep, and, even though he still complains of our long walks when we were dating, I see that he does get enough walking LOL Thank you SO much, Dr., I will subscribe!
Thank you I was taking about 10,000mcg per tab I two little tablets because I needed the energy without taking caffeine. I was worried I would might be taking too much. Thank you again.
Most people don't have a problem with knowing how much to take. Their problem is that they use the doctor's Serum B12 test results to tell them if they are okay. They do this without knowing the Methionine Cycle the Folate Cycle and the MS enzyme that connects them. If more doctors performed MMA and Hyc tests rater than an almost useless Serum B12 test, they would have a much better idea of their Methylation and Transsulphuration status, which is what it's all about.
I have high homocysteine due to homozygous MTHFR mutation. High doses of methylcobalamin were prescribed, but a few months later I had odd symptoms, including strange aches and muscle pains, brain fog and terrible insomnia. Soon after, I broke out in a bright red, full-body rash that lasted several days. The high-dose B12 was the only recent change I had made, and it turns out I am allergic to cobalt. This also explained a decades-long reaction I had had to certain types of eye makeup, which caused oozing, painful rashes. I always thought some unknown red pigment was to blame, but it was blue from cobalt. Skin rashes are one thing, but the full-body and brain problems I had with high doses of methylated B-12 were debilitating. So it's not correct to say it is completely safe at high doses. A small percentage of us will have an allergic reaction
@@Lauren-vd4qe no, I haven't worn eye makeup in many years. When it used to happen with certain colors, years ago, the reaction was almost immediate. The recent illness and rash occurred after starting a high dose of B12 and it resolved a couple weeks after stopping it. If you don't believe it's possible to have such a reaction to B12 or an allergy to cobalt, look it up rather than diagnosing a stranger from afar
B12 became extremely high after taking a strong dose for a short time. During seizures, I experienced a fast heart rate, palpitations, nausea, vomiting, profuse sweating and almost went into cardiac arrest a couple of times. My liver and kidney numbers were also extremely high.
@@Me-555 Yikes! My reaction was weird and very unpleasant, but nothing like that. Doctors need to realize B12 supplements can harm some people and more is not always better.

Take all Vitamin B, they all can do a lot:) And Benfo plus Allithiamin listen to Elliot Overtone on TH-cam. Magnesiumglycinate and some adaptogens like rhodiola rosea, passion flower ( I love passion flower extract:). Greetings from Germany
Love this video. I started taking B 12 5,000 mcg liquid, 2 droppers full three times daily and it improved my mental focus by the end of the day. I believe we cannot get enough nutrients in our food, and we also need enough stomach acid to absorb the nutrients. Over the age of 30, our stomach acid declines. I am taking high doses of B vitamins now and can feel a big difference in energy levels. A friend of mine has horrible nerve pain and she has refused to megadose B vitamins. With this Medical Doctor video, hopefully she will now believe me.
Thanks for clarifying the issues with B12 minimum and ODA it was very helpful! I did not know the relationship with nerves and B12 with which I have a problem, and know now to increase the dosage!
Thank you for this helpful video! I was low on B12 off and on mostly off. Been on it idk for one year consistent and prior a little. My recent bloodwork showed high but now I want to discuss this info with my neurologist perhaps we may still need to increase it. And I’ll mention this to my cardiologist/and neurologist for the brain. I had a stroke on New Year’s Eve 2023 at 56 I was taken aback by this. I may actually need more B12 as I suffer now from neuropathy of the feet. Thanks again for this helpful video!

A cup of organic blueberries 🫐 a day and high does DHA supplement reversed my Macular Degeneration, I use Nordic Naturals DHA and you want to keep it refrigerated once opened
GREAT!! You just answered my questions! I have internal vibration (getting worst everyday) and it could be due to nerve damage. I hear that vit B12 would help me get rid of those vibrations but I was not sure about the dose to take. Now I can take the 5000 mcg pills I bought without any worries. Thanks sooo much! Dominique
@@Lauren-vd4qe I started 8 days ago and I already see a big difference...I almost have no vibration during the day and at night it's like 30% of what it was at the worst. I keep taking them for 4 months because there is a warning on the bottle saying to check with my doctor after 4 months. :-)
Make sure to have enough B1( benfotiamine, allithiamine) and B6 (P5P only) and methylfolate with it and very important with enough electrolytes (especially potassium)
B12 is doubtless relatively safe in big doses, however in large doses if you are otherwise already healthy it can give you difficulties focusing your attention due to excess energy. I am not sure about B12 to treat peripheral neuropathy (if it is caused by excesses of minerals or excess Vitamin B6, ALA is a better treatment to remove the excess from your system which will lead to healing). Excess B12 may feel a little similar to taking excess Iron. B12 isn't a catch all for fatigue, you need to ensure you have adequate levels of vitamin E, folic acid(Folate), magnesium and iron for that (folic acid has some similar impacts on the body to B12 so getting the right combination of the two is important, excess of either can mask deficiencies in the other). Vitamin B6 is also important in small doses, however if you are taking more than 12mg per day from all supplements you are probably overdosing (I take 6mg myself) and may be causing peripheral neuropathy (impact is gradual over time). IF you 'need' more than 150mcg B12 a day and you are not unfit chances are B12 is not your problem unless you have a medical condition that your doctor advises is best treated with B12.
Yes the medical doctors keep telling me my serum B12 is too high. The cellular assay says I am still insufficient at 3000-4000 mcg a day. Two places absorption matters, the gut and the cell.
Everyone who is taking metformin should also take a B12 supplement, Metformin can and often does reduce B-12 and there is no reason not to take the B-12 as a precaution to help prevent low B-12.
Someone in the comments was asking if there was more pain as neuropathy healed. Unknown if this is universal, but in 2010 I suffered from Guillain Barré Syndrome (Miller Fisher Variant) and had a lot of neuropathy in hands and feet, plus a few other places. I took benfotiamine and methyl B12, along with some other nutrients. The onset was in May and I only got rid of the double vision in mid-July. Neuropathy in my hands kept me from working till mid-October, when I was able to start again even though I still had some neuropathy. I have just a few small places left. I did not suffer pain as the nerves healed, though they did so very slowly. I could not tell that there was any improvement day by day, but if I looked back a week I could see the progress. This TH-cam makes me wonder if I could rid myself of the last couple of places by doubling or quadrupling my intake, which has been 1 mb. of methyl B12 a day, sublingual. I also was easily confused and sometimes anxious for over a year, even as I seemed to have recovered, which suggests to me that it took awhile for the myelin sheath in my brain to heal.
I was taking 500grama Methyocobalmin a day and started to get blurry vision. I started having three days break and my vision came back. After about 2 months I developed a perminant small blind spot in my right eye. So yes be careful you can take to much
Thank you very much for getting this message out there. Is extremely difficult for patients to combat this silly misconception that doctors have about B12 overdosing. I have severe neuropathy in my feet and legs so I've been injecting two ml a day instead of one. But I would like to even do more. My feet hurt so bad. I'm going to watch your other video as well that you mentioned at the end of this video to see if I can fix my feet. Keep debunking these misconceptions of B12. Something needs to change so we can buy B12 ampoules OTC in the US and UK.
Could you maybe talk about subacute combined degeneration caused by B12 deficiency/PA and what can be done to fix the nerve damage? That would be a great video. Thanks so much
@@nageshnimbalkar4091 Well, it's a little hard to say. But I like to think it is, even if it's just a little bit. It seems when I'm in a flare-up, if I inject B12 directly into my thigh instead of my belly where it has to kind of get through some fat, I think if I inject it directly into my leg it's got a better chance of reaching areas of the lower extremities. And I'd like to think that it does relieve my feet from excruciating pain but doesn't eliminate it all together and it just comes right back If I skip a day. Without it, it would get worse So if nothing else it's keeping it from being like it was last year where I was crawling on the ground because I couldn't walk. It is excruciating and it's one of my worst issues from pernicious anemia. I wish I knew how to help it because it's debilitating in its running my life. B12 is all I have and I'm all I have, because doctors know nothing about this. They go home at the end of the day and don't have to worry about it but I have to live with it every second of the day and it's extremely excruciating It's a terrible disease and doctors don't know anything about it. I feel like I have nowhere to turn but myself. Thank goodness for B12 because it's all I have and at least I'm still alive, but I'm not living that's for sure, because of neuropathy. I wish I had a better answer for you. But all I can say is without B12 I would be in a wheelchair. So whatever I'm doing it's at least keeping me from that.
Don't take B12 supplements but my B12 levels are always high. Recent blood test showed 808 pg/ml. Lab range was 197-771. Doctor said asked if I took a supplement or more likely due to a high protein diet.
Thanks for making this video, I was about to purchase Nuphoria Gold for neuropathy and saw it had 125,000% RDA of Vit B12 and was concerned, this video cleared that up.
Thank you tons and bunches doc for being informative and caring. I'm pushing the subscribe button now. Quality of life is my goal as a senior citizen, and so much information is vague at best. Thank you for the heads-up
Awesome video… way more informative than any neurologist I’ve seen has been. … a few questions… what would be a revolutionary subject to make a video addressing would be… what damaged nerves feel like if they’re healing (regenerating). I would imagine it’s a slow process. While making all the lifestyle changes to heal, does one have pain for months or years and wake up one day and the pain is gone? Does the discomfort fade very slowly from severe to mild to hardly noticeable? Does the pain (discomfort) SEEM to get worse before it gets better? Does the healing from nerve damage literally happen in reverse (as in if it started in the toes and made it to the calves, then the healing from it feel like it started in calves and ended in the toes)? Is healing from nerve damage as individualized as the suffering from it is? Hope you all consider this for a video subject. I can’t find anything on the internet; only material explaining the progression of the disease. Thank you very much.
WOW!!! This would make an incredible video. These are all the questions we get asked. I can't believe we hadn't thought about it, but so glad that you did. This is definitely going on our production schedule. We'll try to get this out in June's production. Thanks so much for the suggestion.
@@1truthseeking8 taking methyl B12 as a sublingual tablet bypasses the stomach absorption and therefore the need for intrinsic factor. It goes straight into the veins under the tongue.
Thank you, I always hesitated, how much should I take Vit. B12. It is so important, that there is not too high a dose, because we can urinate the exceeded dosage. 💌
I have been searching for the safe amounts of B12 for the last two weeks after suffering for four months with an undiagnosed peripheral neuropathy after my road accident that also injured my liver and rib fracture.
Omg! Thank you. I have been taking 5000mcg I'm 75 with heart tissues. I took that dose for years...my Dr took b12 test and said I had too much..I went on a much lower dose and felt worse..I'm back on my 5000mcg...but it will take time to make me to feel better.
So you are looking for some excuses and support to justify your unusual intake that your own doctor said no good, instead of trusting the work of thousands of experts who set the guidelines and normal range of blood levels of B12?
@@hn5460 In the UK many doctors do not care about anyone that starts using supplements - if there is no money in it for big pharma then doctors will down-play it big time. We do not even get B12 or pretty much any of these values in our blood tests here :(
Enjoyed your presentation on B12. Very precise and to the point. Especially like that you had all the numbers to go with your recommendations. What is one of best supplements of B12 on market. Some brands use fillers and that item not as true to work as other purer supplements. Thank you for your advise.
I dont know. Cruising YT there is an absolute cesspool of conflicting info on B12. Its infuriating. This doctor says its safe whatever dose you take. The problem is what do you do when b12 makes you sleepy and lethargic ? There are even health -care amateurs claiming that cobolamin can build to toxic levels if the b12 uptake is incomplete due to low stomach HCI and Intrinsic factor. Therefore - Toxic (can cause anxiety and lethargy all day long) The sleepy and lethargic reaction is very common. There are tons of threads on Reddit about it. So. ITS NOT SAFE ! It does matter how, when and how much you take . Just keep it in mind.
My B12 Levels have always been raised despite suffering from a Compromised Immune System (due to past work-place exposure to toxins!) being on a semi-veg/pescatarian diet & with no B12 injections
There was a semi recent study that linked high levels of B6 and B12 supplementation to a 3-4X risk of lung cancer. How does that play into all of this?
Not well. In fact there are multiple studies finding increased risk of lung cancer associated with B12 but none showing causation as yet. Not hard to find these with a bit of googling. Some of these studies are with very large number of subjects too. Probably best to compare the typically high doses in these studies with what one’s doctor might be recommending and weigh up risk/benefit after discussing with the doctor.
I managed to get B vitamin poisonoing from drinking 1 - 2 cans of RedBull for half a year because it helped me when I had extremely low hemoglobin in the blood. It took 4 months of no more energy drinks before I started to feel normal again, it was absolutely horrible feeling sick and nauseous with only a few hours a sleep every night for months. But doctors say my kidneys have reduced function.
My B12 blood level revealed 2000 mcg, which was high. So my doctor recommended I stop supplementing. Also, while the levels were high, I had migraine headaches and urinated dozens of times a night. Also, I experience severe neuropathy in all my limbs. However, since reducing the dosage, those systems are less. As well I read that too much B12 increases cancer risks.
This is helpful guidance. I suffer from CFS - poor muscle control. I used to take B.12 in a small does with other vitamins. Recently updated this to 500 mcg and I must say there is an improvement in my muscle tone. thank you.
I suffer from very painful neuropathy in my feet : I eat little meat and vegetables (due to IBS), so I take a b12 each day. I don't smoke, exercise every day, and don't drink.
LOVE THIS DOCTOR. UNLIKE OTHERS HE JUST GIVES INFO WE NEED, NOT PUT US TO SLEEP TRYING TO THROW WORDS AROUND OF NO VALUE. THANK YOU, DOCTOR. I GOT INFO I NEED.
I started taking 1,000 mcg of B12 about 4 mo ago. I’m a T2D and I’ve long had the pins, needles and even mean foot itch, that is likely associated with neuropathy. But, it has greatly decreased in frequency and intensity, since then. As B12 also helps to make red blood cells and I was told to start taking iron tablets, I’ve been also taking Blood Builder. No doctor has told me before that I was anemic and that I might be B12 deficient, but after years of taking Metformin and losing a lot of hair, suddenly, hair is growing. Don’t know how much will eventually grow but, particularly as a woman, it is good to finally have the possible keys to regrowing my hair, after playing around with all of those hair regrowth products, that really can’t help me, if I don’t have the basics to grow hair, in the first place. Wish any of my doctors knew the Metformin/B12 correlation, for the past 30+ years!
@@stefanozebralight518 thank you. I’ll stop by the VS this week then. Because, while my hair started growing and I have fewer neuropathy symptoms, although I do take B12, Blood Builder, D3, and E consistently, my hair has not continued to grow. It seems as if it’s in stasis, where it’s not falling out, but not growing. I have a whole bag of vitamins, but I stopped taking the others, because I decided I wanted to see the effects of each, one by one. In addition, I’m going to get to a Quest, over the next few days, to be tested for B12, iron and Ferritin.
@@stefanozebralight518BTW, I realized I’d forgotten that I had B1 here. Benfothiamine. Can’t find “B1” any VS. Also have B2 and B6 here. But, as I’d reached the 6 mo mark of taking these vitamins religiously, ordered blood tests from Quest. So, apparently, even though I take B12, I am over the top on that. Could be because Blood Builder also has B12 or maybe I wasn’t deficient, in the first place. However, I am still somewhat deficient in iron and ferritin. So, I’ve almost stopped taking B12 separately and doubled my dose of iron, to boost my iron and ferritin levels to norm. I’ll go back in about 3 months for TIBC, iron, ferritin, now that I have a basic marker and to see whether I’m going in the right direction , as I know too much iron isn’t good either.
@@GuitarManUa I just watched it. I will have to look into this. I had my levels tested last October. But am planning to have them tested again, before the end of the month. When last tested, my iron and ferritin had risen, but ferritin particularly, was still quite low. I added more iron. But there’s been no further change in hair thickness. It’s as if it simply went from bald on the top right, to thin and that’s what it’s remained as. But, of course, I’m not simply getting my levels checked, to see if they’re going up further. But, to ensure I’m not overdoing it, as that would also be bad. I was, however, above normal on B12. So, I’ve virtually stopped taking that. There’s probably enough B12, in the Blood Builder. I’ve started taking Biotin, as well. When Morley talks about 1st grade, these doctors don’t even seem like Pre-K. I am not a doctor. But I’d think that, in doctors looking at blood tests over the years, anemia would be one of the first things spotted. But it never was. Took a nurse picking it up last year and, from then on, I’ve simply gotten blood tests, for multiple things I’ve been curious about, without my doctor being involved. I go to Quest for this and the results are easy to understand. Thank you.
Before listening to this video, I listened to the TH-cam video called, "Is too much B12 bad." (Can you take too much B12.) He says the opposite of Dr. Coppola. He says that it is very possibly linked to lung cancer and other cancers. What do you think of the Trainers cancer view?
I have a level of more than 2000 when supplementing with B12. My GP asked me to stop taking, commented that too high is no good. I stopped taking it for about two months, the level rapidly dropped down to 700! I doubt whether to continue to take or not.
My B12 dropped to 87. I thought I was dying before we got the test results back. I was put on shots once a week for four weeks then went to once monthly. It still didn’t feel right so we checked my level again two weeks after my last shot. It had come up to a low normal of 247. I am now adding 1000 mcg of sublingual B 12. Agreed that we need more than RDA, but ODA numbers vary wildly depending on which source you use... It is incredibly hard to determine ODA as it is so dependent on individual factors, and the state of the research is constantly changing... I recommend taking ODA numbers with a large grain of salt. In my humble opinion, it would be better to simply try and get as much as you can of all essential nutrients while still staying below the NOAEL ( No Observed Adverse Effect Level), unless treating a specific condition under the supervision of a physician. It may still be necessary to further limit your intake if you have a sensitivity or allergy to the nutrient in question and must limit your intake further, or are taking medications that may be effected by high doses of said nutrient. That said, cobalamin (B12) is INCREADIBLY safe... So much so that there is still no firmly agreed upon NOAEL for it, with the Scientific Committee on Food stating “…there are no clearly defined adverse effects produced by vitamin B12 that can be used to define a LOAEL or NOAEL, which can be used as a basis for deriving an UL” . However I am aware of two recommended NOAELs based on the synthetic form cyanocobalamin based on rat studies, with suggested NOAELs of 100mg/kg/day and 500mg/kg/day respectively... yes that is mg, not mcg!! and the natural form Methylcobalamin is considered even safer.... However, this does not mean that you may not have an individual sensitivity or allergy to B12 that may lead to skin rashes, GI upset, or even anaphylaxis, even at much lower doses... So like everything, while this is a VERY safe vitamin for most people, don't start mega dosing blindly, work your way up to higher doses slowly, and even then just in case, it is probably best to keep your daily intake under 2000-3000mcg/day unless under the supervision of a physician.
Nice one Michael, caution is always needed, just look at some of the comments here like Jim Doukis and Connie Waterman, it just goes to show that there is no one size fits all answer.
Wondering about too much of something and would appreciate your thoughts. As a diabetic I've experienced diabetic neuropathy for the past 5 years with numbness to mid calf. Most recently I'm expiencing significant difficulties in walking and am pretty much constantly tired. Past month I've been using benfotiamine without any benefits, but noticed on a couple of occasions that my condition worsens if I eat more than 6 slices of bread in the day. Does the bread react in any way such as interference with vitamins B?
Hi Michael. Yes, the bread (and all complex carbohydrates known as starches) will cause your glucose levels to shoot up. It will be extremely difficult for the Benfotiamine to stay ahead of the game. You need to adopt a ketogenic diet with intermittnet fasting. This is key. You will also need more than just benfotiamine. You will need ALL of the vital nutrients for nerve repair. I'm including 2 links to my video that you definitely need to watch: th-cam.com/video/wPruq49-ksU/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/dKMPMPJM4JY/w-d-xo.html Also, watch these 2 videos on reversing diabetic peripheral neuropathy: Part1: th-cam.com/video/ks-WJD3WOjs/w-d-xo.html Part2: th-cam.com/video/pnOIvXW9Qyw/w-d-xo.html This will put you on the right track.
Being a vegetarian I bought Solgar B complex with 2mg of B12. That was listed as 83,000% of RDA in one ML eyedropper. I did one once per week. At that week or the next I began to have TOTAL insomnia! Checking the web confirmed it could. I stopped and soon I was sleeping normally. I also read that the liver stores it a long time so likely can accumulate. 😮 I guess it could have been some of the B complex too.
Did you take it right before bed? If the supplement contained the B12 form Methylcobalamine it’s no wonder you got insomnia if you took it before bed or late in the evening. Most people will get a bit hyper and agitated on Methylcobalamine.
I read that the body disposes of the B12 it does not need via urine and overdosing is not a factor.. Confusing when understanding the importance of B12 to older folk.
Thank you so much for your helpful video to clarify my long time questions regarding supplementation of B12. Should B12 be taken alone or should it be taken with folate to make it effective?
The "carriers protein" is the key cell to bind the B12 is then carried by the red blood cells distributed to relevant organs throughout the whole body as required. B12 is very depended by carriers protein cell !!!
I have neuropathy and take B12 now daily for sometime. I take the liquid b12 as that one has effect on me faster and it’s 5000 mcg’s in 1.5 ml. I have another that’s a spray i take both. The doctor said to take high doses if you want to regenerate the nerves you can’t do that with low doses.
I was listening for the results of the study of giving B12 supplements to people who have MS and I didn't hear the results. Would you please post results in the comments?
@The Nerve Doctors As someone else commented , my labs showed above normal B12, I felt fine. She asked me to go off it to make sure wasn’t symptom of something serious like cancer . Levels went down to normal range. But now I’m having muscle joint nerve pain again , so taking more but was scared because worried labs would be too high. If we excrete excess, what is causing high lab levels and is this a concern . Could it just be normal for me to be high , are labs truly good measure . Thanks so much!
Fasting can help with many nerve issues. Some benefits of doing occasional extended fasting: High blood pressure is lowered to normal levels very quickly while fasting. Fasting restores NAD+ to healthy levels. Vitamin D plasma levels are increased as fasting improves metabolic health, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy. Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria, plaques and viruses by the immune system. It will also remove any 'foreign material' like spikes that are not supposed to be there. Whether natural or unnatural in origin.. Fasting increases nitric oxide release. Telomeres are lengthened and fasting also increases anti-aging Yamanaka factors. Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. Reflexes and short term memory are increased. Fasts from 36-96 h increase metabolic rate due to norepinephrine release! After 72 hours or more fasted, your body recycles up to 1/3 of all immune bodies, rejuvenating your entire immune system. This helps prevent the onset of new autoimmune conditions, which develop through a leaky gut and damaged immune system. Fasting can help with MS, Depression, BPD, Autism and seizures. Thymus is regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. The thymus also plays a vital role in fighting cancer. Blood sugar and insulin are lowered when fasting, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Weight loss from daily caloric restriction has 1/4 to 1/3 of the weight lost as lean tissue while many studies show fat loss from 36 h fasts without losing any lean tissue! The obese will lose extra tissue like loose skin while fasting, but the skinny or frail will have increased growth hormone release than the obese, which helps to make more lean tissue and reduce frailness. The hunger hormone ghrelin also lowers with extended fasting and rises from dieting. When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell required for viruses to replicate. What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast. Most teas and herbs are OK. Most supplements and meds will either break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Many meds are dangerous to take while fasting. Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone. Fasting also increases insulin sensitivity, which helps with muscle building. Fasts of 36-96 will not affect short term female fertility or affect menstrual cycle. They also may increase long term fertility, especially in women with PCOS. Fasting reduces pain and anxiety by stimulating the endocannabinoid system in a similar way to CBD oil. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance, which impairs immune function. One day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again! Stomach acid is reduced over time while fasting and can allow for the healing of treatment resistant ulcers. Some patients may need continued acid reduction medication while fasting. Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No. Except for brief periods of very intense exercise, your body mainly burns fats in the form of free fatty acids. Your brain also prefers to burn ketones at a rate of around 2.5 to 1 when they are available in equal quantity to glucose. Fasting stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Lowering insulin via fasting virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism, fighting infection and cancer prevention! Fasting releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth. This can help a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers. When not in ketosis, the brain can only burn carbohydrate, which produces a great deal of damaging ROS the brain has to deal with. Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level. When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells, destroying them. Senescent cells are responsible for many of the effects of aging and are a root cause of the development of cancer. A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row also provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and extremely low carbs. Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness or tremors, then simply break the fast and seek advice. The whole B12 metabolism is complex. B12 is stored in the liver but can only be processed in very small amounts. And can be stored in even smaller amounts. Taking the optimal amount gets enough circulating in the bloodstream to be useful for repairing things. Methylcobalamin is among the easiest for us to metabolize since it doesn’t need to be methylated to be used.
How about the dose of b6? As some say that can cause issues with neuropathy .. My b complex has 10 mg iod the b5p ..b6 version An My magnesium had 5 mg of b6 p5p My b complex also has 250 mcg of b12
After beeing vegan (mostly raw) for 10 years I eventually got neurlogical problems, cognitive problems and problem with balance. Doctors B12 MMA test indicated methlmalonic acid off the charts, indicating a severe problem. Taking 1000mcg sublingual b12 helped. A natural whole food supplement worked bettar than synthetic. 1.5 years later i feel better. But I still have some balance problems. Can it help to increase to mega dosage? It feels like some of the damage is permanent.
Dear Doctor Please guide the patients who are on medications for diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and mild kidney functions at stage 3. I have a close friend who needs guidance on B12, She is now taking mega B Vitamin 100mg, Vitamin E 400IU Vitamin C 1000mg, ALA 600mg 3 capsules, Acetyl L-Carnitine 2capsules 1500mg, magnesium citrate 500mg 3 capsules, Vitamin D3 25mcg 2 and vitamin K-2 MK-7 100mcg all of it once a day. Please help correct the doses. Appreciate your reply. Thank you very much. 😊❤
Except for hypokalemia. 😔 I desperately need B12 supplementation, but I'm having great difficulty figuring out how to keep my potassium up. I'm taking 40meq of Klor-con per day. My B12 has dropped a lot over the last 2 years. 😔
Hi Doctor, How will I take my B12 with Betaine HCL? Should I take it before my breakfast or afterwards for better absorption? Also how will I incorporate my iron supplement?
My B12 level was 150. Neurologist checked me for neuropathy sure enough I felt nothing when he used that vibrating tool. I started on sub lingual 1,000 mcq daily. My levels shot up way past normal to nearly 1300. Labs normal is 300-700 given the fact I still have neuropathy and body under stress from two recent falls and injuries. Plus 10 months post concussion on top of that. Should I continue B12 and if so what dose?
When I was 65 my primary car physician during an annual health visit did a quick sensation check on the bottom of my feet. I could not feel it. My B12 blood test was normal although on the low end of normal. She recommended take a B12 supplement with 2000 mg. I did and within 6 days my feet had returned to pretty normal sensation. They continued to improve for more than six months. I continued taking B12 and will for the rest of my life.
mg or mcg?
All at once. My GP says it’s a water soluble vitamin so low to no risk of too much.

My husband’s just came back high too, over 1,100. So sounds like we shouldn’t worry. He was taking Nerve support and Bcomplex.
I am 65 and eat very little meat. I just bought B12 supplements today and so glad I came to this channel. I plan on starting with 1000 mcg daily.
Make sure it is the Methycobalamine variant and not Cynacobalamine variant. Later one is poisonous at high doses.

I couldnt make it without,tbh.
I got rid of my trigeminal neuralgia with acupuncture
One thing important to remember if you want to check your b12 level for a deficiency, do not start supplementing before bloodwork as it will skew your b12 serum levels.

Thanks for this insight.
A small percentage of us will have an allergic reaction
sounds like a result of long exposure to toxic makeup
@@Lauren-vd4qe no, I haven't worn eye makeup in many years. When it used to happen with certain colors, years ago, the reaction was almost immediate. The recent illness and rash occurred after starting a high dose of B12 and it resolved a couple weeks after stopping it. If you don't believe it's possible to have such a reaction to B12 or an allergy to cobalt, look it up rather than diagnosing a stranger from afar

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP
Yes the medical doctors keep telling me my serum B12 is too high. The cellular assay says I am still insufficient at 3000-4000 mcg a day. Two places absorption matters, the gut and the cell.
Thanks Doc. I take 2500 mcg each day and feel great.

Started to develop a lump under my foot. B12 has eliminated it. Numbness reduces tingling gone. Am taking B12 for the rest of my life
Everyone who is taking metformin should also take a B12 supplement, Metformin can and often does reduce B-12 and there is no reason not to take the B-12 as a precaution to help prevent low B-12.

I also was easily confused and sometimes anxious for over a year, even as I seemed to have recovered, which suggests to me that it took awhile for the myelin sheath in my brain to heal.
hello, were you on any prescription drugs to help with the pain during this time?
Thanks so much

any change in your neuropathy after mega doses of b12
Thank you for the rule of dosage.

Therefore - Toxic (can cause anxiety and lethargy all day long)
The sleepy and lethargic reaction is very common. There are tons of threads on Reddit about it.
So. ITS NOT SAFE ! It does matter how, when and how much you take . Just keep it in mind.

Wow I was worried that my 21 mcg daily B12 intake was too high, but that is definitely not the case!!!
Watch Morley Robins anemia
Thank you.

I’m going to post you constantly to my group because it’s too much work for me I’m constantly repairing my self it’s a long fight. Plus I was diagnosed then repaired..li have so many stories about my road.,
Agreed that we need more than RDA, but ODA numbers vary wildly depending on which source you use...

I'm including 2 links to my video that you definitely need to watch:

Most people will get a bit hyper and agitated on Methylcobalamine.
solgar is my favorite brand. I take b12 in the morning rather than at night.

This list compiled over years of research by the user known as Pottenger's Human on youtube but feel free to copy and paste this anywhere you like, no accreditation needed!
My channel will always contain an updated version of this list of fasting benefits on the community tab. I also have playlists on fasting and health topics.
@@LTPottengerhow exactly?
The whole B12 metabolism is complex. B12 is stored in the liver but can only be processed in very small amounts. And can be stored in even smaller amounts. Taking the optimal amount gets enough circulating in the bloodstream to be useful for repairing things. Methylcobalamin is among the easiest for us to metabolize since it doesn’t need to be methylated to be used.
How about the dose of b6? As some say that can cause issues with neuropathy ..
My b complex has 10 mg iod the b5p ..b6 version
An
My magnesium had 5 mg of b6 p5p
My b complex also has 250 mcg of b12
Thank you doctor for sharing and all imporpmation
No matter how much you take intrinsic factor can only let in some amount
After beeing vegan (mostly raw) for 10 years I eventually got neurlogical problems, cognitive problems and problem with balance. Doctors B12 MMA test indicated methlmalonic acid off the charts, indicating a severe problem. Taking 1000mcg sublingual b12 helped. A natural whole food supplement worked bettar than synthetic. 1.5 years later i feel better. But I still have some balance problems. Can it help to increase to mega dosage? It feels like some of the damage is permanent.
Your work is excellent, but can you say the optimum blood levels for a person with neuropathy ?
I take metformin twice daily. I was hoping you were going to address the need and how much B12 for peeps like me.
Thank you for your teaching to me who’s have no idea how much more I can take.
Please speak about: "ALPHA LIPOIC ACID" and proper doses to take... THANK YOU😉👍🇺🇸
600 mg for 6 months one capsule for day
Thank you very much dr.
God richly bless you
Dear Doctor Please guide the patients who are on medications for diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and mild kidney functions at stage 3. 😊❤
Hi Indra. Have your friend watch this video: 2) The Right Dose: th-cam.com/video/dKMPMPJM4JY/w-d-xo.html
It will help her tremendously. Blessings.
Except for hypokalemia. 😔 I desperately need B12 supplementation, but I'm having great difficulty figuring out how to keep my potassium up. I'm taking 40meq of Klor-con per day. My B12 has dropped a lot over the last 2 years. 😔
Keep spreading the good news
Thank you Dr. Very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
thanks for the post---very informative...
How long did it take for your levels to go that high?
