      No mandatory inspections or inspections done by yahoos who shouldn't be working on vehicles are why this is such a bad thing in the US.

      I can’t imagine how someone can just never look at problems with their cars until it’s simply ready for the junkyard. Some of these folks never get a brake job.

    Back in the early '80's a friend thought he was going to "flush the anti-freeze". instead of putting the flush connection on the heater hose he put it on the air pump hose that connected into the exhaust manifold. he was putting water in the exhaust and it was pouring out the tail pipe.

    A company I worked for bought a box truck and asked if I could look at the brakes. The rear disks were separated from the hubs, one front had no pads and the other front was worn through to the vents! Sorry no photos. I did drive it to the repair place like that though, thanks to it having a manual trans.

    I used to work at a school bus company, come in at about 10:00 in the morning and leave around 7:00 in the evening. Part of the job is to do defects after their morning run, it's like fixing lights or seats or heaters something really quick before their afternoon run. Sometimes I would get a defect that says my brakes are bad look at my brakes, but when I look for bus or van type of bus it's nowhere to be found. And by the time we get to it, it's too late just to R & R the pads or shoes, we end up doing the whole ball of wax on it. That what happens when you get drivers that have a I. Q. less than a pencil.

    Worked here in the UK many years ago who took his works van for repair as the brakes were faulty and the radio didn't work ,as he was in a hurry he told the repairer just fix the radio I can manage without the brakes what was he thinking, I sometimes wonder where people get their brains from let alone a driving licence. Anyway stay safe ,best regards to all from a retired mechanic, (well sort of I worked for 50 years on forklifts).

    Either the heads or the block on the car pouring anti-freeze out the tailpipe.
    A side note my worked at a Ford transmission plant. Uncle’s wife car had broke down on her close to my home. He had it towed to my house. Uncle and a Ford dealer mechanic came down. The mechanic did a carbon clean using a garden hose. Floored the gas petal and turned garden hose on full force with hose stuck down the throttle body until car died out. Let it sit for 30 minutes. Cranked it over (took a couple of minutes cranking). The white smoke it billowed out for 30 minutes. Car ran perfect. No mosquitoes that summer.

    I've seen this brakes rotor separate like before the auto sales company was known for fixing auto by the cheapest way possible put in oversized pads brakes work great until the rotor wears out if an accident happens they deny they did it shoes adjusted out to the limit work great until the piston blows out and you loose your fluid and brakes try stopping at a red light with 6 lanes of rush hour traffic getting a green light and you have instant terror as your brake pedal goes from hard with good stopping to the floor and no brakes when you have almost. no money and that happens you learn how to replace them but they didn't lie the brakes were done the pads were almost new but the drums were worn out and even auto repair shops do some dangerous stuff like not tightening the the hose that connects to the front brake piston or on the new brake system on the gm trucks adjusting one bolt too much and the other not enough if left long enough and adjusted too many times it will cut 2 grooves one on either side of the drums breaking surface since we couldn't afford another 2400$I learned how to do the rear brakes on a 5 ton gm

    Betting the first one was a head gasket with it pouring out that volume of coolant.

    • @JosephArata
      @JosephArata 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That much coolant out the exhaust is more likely a crack in the head on the exhaust side. If it was going into the cylinders it would hydro-lock and break the engine. Honestly it's better it be the head than a cylinder crack. You can replace a head, you can't replace the block unless you are going to put in a new engine. Used engines have their own unknowns and doing used engine swaps is a gamble and usually doesn't have a warranty for very long.

    As a European (Sweden), I simply am astounded sometimes when I watch mechanics channels placed in America, and get see the complete state of disrepair that some of the vehicles are in. Vehicles that are still are allowed to legally drive on public roads! I would get banned from driving my car until I had repaired it if it was deemed unsafe at my annual safety test. And by unsafe I mean that there's a little excessive play in a joint in the steering or suspension, a bad crack in the windshield, bad brakes, to much corrosion on critical components or any bad collision damage. Or if the emissions test showed excessive levels...

    • @Fix_It_Again_Tony
      @Fix_It_Again_Tony 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Lots of states in the US have inspection laws similar to what you describe. I live in Pennsylvania and we have yearly safety and emissions inspections. You need to have all lights working, no play in joints suspension/steering joints, no holes in the body, no windshield cracks, good brakes, etc. Ohio, on the other hand, has no yearly inspection. I've seen lots of cars with Ohio plates that are a danger to everyone on the road.

    • @jackpolack3315
      @jackpolack3315 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It’s very dependent on the state one lives in. Some like california have stringent vehicle inspection laws, whereas states like alaska have no road inspection. Any shitbox that runs can be registered.

    • @akersjon278
      @akersjon278 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jackpolack3315 Yes I know there are differences between states. But a car from Alaska can be legally driven on a Californian (or any other state) highway. So if you get rear ended by a truck in LA because it had no brakes, and you then find out that the shitbox that hit you is registered in Alaska, that don't change the fact that you just were involved in an accident, it just means you were extra unlucky as a Californian to come across that particular truck... Then we have states like New York where there is rampant corruption among the shops that do the inspections, and they rubber stamp shitboxes as "roadworthy" for a price all the time...

    • @andrewlancour1626
      @andrewlancour1626 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The alternative is higher vehicle prices that the poor cannot afford, or someone down on their luck going without a vehicle because of a crack in the windshield, rusty strut tower etc. I understand the desire for safety, but the alternative is so much worse in my opinion.

  • @johnhorter1859
    @johnhorter1859 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    The yearly state inspection required in my state is sort of a hassle but it gets people to fix their brakes before wearing away the rotors.

      Some states do carry it too far . I lived in Virginia and we were restoring a 56 ford p/u . All the major work was done and we were finalizing the last few details . We needed a drivers side wiper arm which no one had so we tried our local junk yard 10 miles away . While going there we drove through a road check . The state trooper noticed the wiper arm missing , we explained we were on our way to pick one up . He said not in this truck , he then made us park it , removed the plates and made us walk home .
