A convincing performance of one of my favourite Sibelius works - to better appreciate how brilliantly the composer captured Maeterlinck's metaphysical, fatalist work, it helps to study a synopsis of the play. The movements are: 0:09 _At the Castle Gate_ (Prelude from Act I, scene 1) 3:46 _Mélisande_ (Prelude from Act I, scene 2) 8:18 _At the Seashore_ (Melodrama from Act I, scene 4) 10:30 _A Spring in the Park_ (Prelude from Act II, scene 1) 12:52 _The Three Blind Sisters_ (Mélisande's Song from Act III, scene 2) 15:23 _Pastorale_ (Melodrama from Act III, scene 4) 17:24 _Mélisande at the Spinning Wheel_ (Prelude from Act III, scene 1) 19:39 _Entr'acte_ (Prelude from Act IV, scene 1) 22:44 _The Death of Mélisande_ (Prelude from Act V, scene 2).[3]
0:01 I. At the Castle Gate 3:40 II. Mélisande 8:17 III. At the Seashore 10:30 IV. A Spring in the Park 12:50 V. The Three Blind Sisters 15:23 VI. Pastorale 17:23 VII. Mélisande at the Spinning Wheel 19:33 VIII. Entr'acte 22:38 IX. The Death of Mélisande
It really is astonishing how the musicians of this orchestra so subtly attend to the rhythmic nuances of this masterpiece.

Hyvä Okko, hyvä Turku Filharmonia. Syvällinen tulkinta.
Bravo!! Maestro Okko Kamu👏👏
Bravo! Well-played! Thanks for this upload of often neglected music from Sibelius.
Kannattaisi lopuksi kuvata muusikkoja, jotka kapellimestari nostaa kiittäen esiin, kiitos.
This is Sibelius at his very best; he was in a class of his own!!
His incidental music sounds so different from the symphonies. Love them both.
King Christian II suite is nice.
What a performance, but why so few in the audience ? Missed a rare treat - an orchestra fully in tune with Jean Sibelius.

British listeners may recognise the opening as the theme music for the TV series, The Sky at Night
Superb!
out of this world, thanks.
Where was the audience for this fine performance?
COVID social distancing I presume!
