Excellent tut. I want to mention again how much I appreciate the high production quality of your vids. Good audio, very good editing, and the content speaks for itself. On another note... you've used terms like "Architectural Digest", and "high-end" in order to contrast the deliverable output of these tutorials. What is the possibility that you might do a tut that actually demonstrates some of the techniques you would use to shoot a "high end" product?

Great Tutorial! thanks! I've been wanting to learn how to insert a TV screen. Do you ever use fire brushes? That's what I use, never knew there was that option in PS. Do you have a tutorial on mirrors? Many times the bathroom is so small and the best shot puts me in the mirror! Would love to know if that's fixable. Thanks.

Hello Nathan, Thank you for taking the time to make all of these videos, I am huge fan and have followed all of your videos for quiet some time as well as have all of your books. I cant tell you how much I have learned and improved since starting to follow you. My question is, I am trying to do the fire place swap and Photoshop keeps giving me "the layer is not directly editable" and will not render a flame. I have searched the Internet but all I can find is people stating that it is a smart object problem that I have to rasterize but the layer is just a jpeg and not a smart object, PS doesn't even allow to try and rasterize as an option. Any help you could give me to get last this would be greatly appreciated, As always amazing videos and keep up the good work! Talk to you soon
I figured it out so wanted to leave this for anyone else that has the same problem, My pen tool was set to shape which can not be used for rendering filters, The option to change this is in the top left of your photoshop screen, By the home and pen icon, on my screen it is the third box, this should say path not shape, if shape is selected it will not allow you to edit the layer. by switching it to path it allows the render of the flames, Thank you again Nathan for all the amazing videos

I am addicted! I am disabled now and have to learn a new trade. You're my teacher Nathan. I just bought a trigger, a dummy switch, and an Xplor 600, to go with my Canon 5d mark iii and 17-40mm lens, dam what a difference! With my new window pull and flambient skills, I will get more work for sure. I am now embarrassed at my old work and know why so many never called back. Thanks for all of the lessons. I am trying to squeeze them in on breaks form homework.

Thanks Brooke! There isn't much to the presets and you can easily make them yourself. I show the settings I used in my REP series, including the interiors e-book (#1 in the series), which steps through the entire process as well. Awesome tutorial! Do you use a 20mm lens for all of your shots? I have found that anything wider than 20mm really creates too much distortion.

Hey Nathan, once again, great video instructions all the way, years a ago I got your ebook "Photography for Real Estate Interiors" and it rocks. My main question is your workflow starting with Lightroom and going to Photoshop and back for fine turning. Could all of these adjustments and workflows just be done just between Bridge and Photoshop? if so why use Lightroom?
Thanks! There's a night and day difference between using Bridge and LrC for the workflow. LrC is much more robust for portions of the workflow, which Bridge simply cannot do. Thank you for going into such great detail. Most people would skip all the stuff you've already shown in past videos, but I like seeing these things again as it helps reinforce the steps and thought processes for different environments.
I used to use this a lot now I'm getting an error when I click on Filter/Render/Flame "Could not render because the content of the layer is not directly editable." ? What have I done wrong, tried on multiple images :( I've made a path with the pen tool on a new layer, with that layer selected, Filter/Render/Flame Then I get the error.. I'm using Photoshop CC 2019 20.0.4
It's likely that you don't have "Path" selected in the pen tool combo box. Once you select the pen tool, there is a combobox (drop down box) in the top left of the screen. Make sure you have "Path" selected, not "Shape".

I have watch a ton of these window pull videos and for the life of me, I can't get it to work. I follow your instructions perfectly, but when I go in with the brush, it darkens everything. Does anyone have an solutions to this? :). Thanks.
I'd have to see examples of what you're doing, so a remote coaching session may be in order (you can email me for more info). It could be though that you are not overexposing the interior window frame with enough flash power, and/or not setting that layer's blend mode to Darken.
Hi Nathan, first off, great vid! Really good content! I'm hoping you can help me out....I'm not having problems getting the flame added via your explained method (and all looks fine in the flame dialog box as well). Where I am having problems is once I accept my flame dialog box numbers and import the flame onto the image. Your flame's color looks very natural and pleasing, but mine has this very harsh orange-ish color to it. Again, my flame color looked identical to yours in the flame dialog box but it's not even close to that once it loads into the picture. Is this a product of the white balance or is there another setting I need to change on my end to get the flame more natural colored? I know I can play around with a hue/saturation layer but I'd prefer to just have it load natural looking like yours does (color-wise). Thoughts? Thanks Nathan!!
Thanks Zach. Newer versions of PS have a checkbox in the Flame dialog box "Use Custom Color for Flames". Sometimes merely checking and then unchecking this box will do the trick; otherwise, use that custom option to select the custom color that best suits your flames, I prefer: H=18 S=24 L=145 and R=255 G=145 B=53
Hello, I just looked at your tutorial and how do you darken the windows this way? Putting the layer in "darken" doesn't work for me... Thank you in advance for your answer.

my photo shop does not show a flame option in render.. Is there a way to enable it?
I'd have to know more about what version of Photoshop you have, and also I assume this is not Photoshop elements?

I love the tutorial and worked out the tv image, but when I want to add flames to the fire place I get an error message that says a selected path is required to use this filter. I don't know what that means. Anyone know how to get passed that?
Sounds like you didn't use the pen tool to draw the path on the new flames layer.
