On the back of watching this youtube clip a few weeks ago I bought Frank Connelly's book. I was a young Irish man in my early 20's in the mid 80's and was told to emigrate by Brian Lenihan senior, so I did what I was told and I am glad I did. As one of the many, many thousands who had to leave Ireland in the eighties it's heartbreaking to hear how these immoral vultures ran our country into the ground and the level of contempt they had for anyone outside their golden circle. The hundreds of millions that was paid to solicitors during the lengthy tribunal that followed led to a few resignations and no legal action whatsoever and will forever be remembered to be just as shameful and as diabolical as what went on before it.

The £50,000 donation was a donation and nothing more. It was made specifically to a political party and not to an individual and it was proven beyond shadow of a doubt by the Mahon Tribunal that Tom Gilmartin made that donation to the party and had no idea Flynn was going to pocket it for himself and use it to buy a farm. He kept it illegally but it was not given illegally and this has been explained in detail in various interviews by the family, so cease with the libel please and thank you.

Just wondering if Christy would still think we're in a better place now for all the corruption that was exposed then . I think the corruption will always be there except that it will be with new people. So really we are not in a better place and will never be.

Exactly , tubridy is a puppet for the Irish government. Like All of RTE he for his job there bcos of his family connections. How things work in Ireland. It happens everywhere but in Ireland seems particularly severe bcos it's a small country
Tom Gilmartin should not have entertained these politicians, even if he stood to lose out on a lucrative deal. A man of principle would have walked away. As for the politicians in question, weren`t they all given pardons afterwards. Speaking of which there was some guy recently who was given a posthumous pardon eighty odd years after he was hung. Seems to me all these pardons can only mean one thing, the Irish judiciary is not fit for purpose. Why else would they be making so many mistakes. The tribunal Gilmartin was involved in cost 200 mil and following all the pardons it was just a lot of hot air. The lesson here is that Ireland is just as corrupt now as it was then.
Pol This is victim-blaming (you wouldn't be a Fianna Fáil stooge, would you?). He was being subjected to extortion. Would you blame the Sicilian shopkeeper who is told he must pay over 'security money' or they won't be able to 'prevent' his shop being burned down? The man was clearly utterly honourable - he went to the Gardái and and no-one would help him. When you are put in the same position, and set to lose everything by 'walking away' then you can throw stones. Until then, you're a hurler on the ditch.
Horrible piece of human crap there at the start. Ray Burke (fingal) another one. Just out of sheer coincidence his former mansion was sold off to where now lies....*drum roll*...a shopping centre.
This is a very important conversation. About a society - changing event. One thing that’s for certain, is that this good family took a lot of the weaponry out of the hands of the corrupt all over the world with their raw courage and spirit. They never did receive proper justice, and too many criminals got away. But Ireland is not the same. Corruption still abounds in the rest of the world as well, but at least people know to look for it because of his efforts. This family set out to improve economic prospects for the Irish, and really he did. This family believes the adage that all it takes for evil to prevail, is for good people to do nothing; and the proof of that is in their legacy and the Irish economy. They set the example of love and compassion in doing so much to lift their fellow-countrymen out of abject, desperate poverty.
The fact is,the common denominator with all parties involved is GREAD,all parties trying to achieve something in there lives, going about it in different ways. Big boys rules, move on.
You should read Frank Connelly's book. Its very good. Gilmartin did'nt need Lawlor, but Lawlor got wind that Gilmartin was asking questions about developments and pushed his way in and immediately demanded money. When Gilmartin refused, Lawlor and George Redmond made life impossible for him. This whole episode in Irish history is an absolute embarrassment.
Ethical bribes might be getting replaced or supplemented by Stakes , Legal corporate bribes , Maybe these were the good times, compare what happens in some countries with dictatorships and places being drained of oil while the locals live in poverty and fear. Was this just that politicians wanted their share for giving planning permission or giving out a contract to a developer, maybe its just business in way so long as you don't get caught. Ethical bribe means you don't sell out your country or do anything that might harm others
hmmm, youtube seems to have removed the 'reply' otption. Emily, I may have worded that poorly, as you seem to think I was attacking the Gilmartins. In fact I was attacking the rotten to the core FF party, so I'm sorry if you think I was trying to libel the innocent party in this. Yes it was a donation, but essentially FF made him believe he had to make a large 'donation' to avoid deliberate political obstructions to his project. When I asked why were the revenue commissioners not looking into this, I meant in the sense - as you say below of intended party funds being in effect stolen by Flynn for his own personal use. So again, why did Revenue never pursue him on this?? They were/are afraid to investigate a former EU kleptocrat?
I see what you meant now. I did take it the wrong way, as it has been a common accusation made by people who don't bother with the specifics of the true story. No hard feelings I hope. You are right, of course, in asking why nothing was done about Flynn's robbery and I can only reply to that by asking why they have done nothing about ANY of the crimes in this sordid story. As Thomas says in the interview, it is shocking that politicians in Ireland go unpunished. Ahern is still flying high with his properties in Europe of course and Owen O'Callahan is still seeking to make himself King of Cork and the people let him. Memories are short.
Thing is, Bertie's resignation was the best thing that ever happened to him as he got out right before the housing crash and Cowen had to take all the shit for that. Some people have all the luck.
Was watching the interview with Colm Meaney....Of course all comments are cancelled. Just wanted to comment that during the interview Colm mentioned how much Martin McGuiness was villafied by the Irish press , the bold Mr Tubrity sat like a prick as he was at the foremost of the bias against any republican with both Adams and McGuiness getting non stop attacks.

@@Danny.r1 Be careful and make sure that your finances are in order, Spend time here, You might be surprised at what you will miss about America, The Irish do not do comfort and convenience at all, make sure you can return also, but at the end of it, The weather is awful, very hard to get used to, The sun is everything,
Good luck
I tried to return from Canada, I was ripped off and exploited at every turn. Telling lies and obfuscation is the national hobby. Nobody did what they said they’d do. Parochial Ireland is still very much alive. Thank God I was able to return to the uncomplicated and sane life in Canada.
@@huub1989 Damn, I didn't know ripping off people who returned was a thing. The begrudgery is definitely more noticeable though
@@huub1989 just as well you got back to Canada, I cant return to Boston, Ireland despite what people say hasn't changed at all, still the same corrupt sneakie bullshit here, it's a very pretentious place, I'm leaving here again soon for the uk.
You get what you vote for.
Jesus! Tubridy is awful. Amazing information from the guests, despite Tubridy trying his best/worst!
Let's make a international law, so it would be illegal for Politians to earn more than twice the minimum wage in their country. Spread the idea. Minimum wage would be very quickly raised for everyone.
How is such a small country like lreland so corrupt?
Every country in the world is corrupt, just on different levels
@Anois Éire I did, you do raise some valid points with unchecked immigration but you lost me with John Waters I'm afraid.
Great hate/begrudgery & little room. That’s why. It’s ugly.
Ireland is one of the most corrupt places on this planet. Paddy has no morals. The man on the street seems to applaud the 'cute hoors' who get up to this shady business.
Leprechaun psychology - All the greedy mofos reincarnate here and are actually embodiments of that sinful characteristic - GREED
I'm reading the book at present and the abuse by Charles Haughey is criminal as well as the scum beneath him
Say somethings by these people over the years .... There's less crooked people doing long stretches 😡
Was it worth it was a ridiculous question from tubridy, Tom Gil Martin was a straight up guy who was hounded for back handers by decision makers.
Tom gilmartin did the country a huge favour in stopping this corruption.
Tom you deserve a medal.
Rest in peace
I don’t think the Irish people would think otherwise. Tom Gilmartin was treated very badly by a scumbag regime who would have circled the wagons if they got the chance.
I'm sorry , but surely it was a Cheque made out to his wife and that's how she cashed it and bought a farm ...
How else could ya cash a cheque made out to FF and put it i.to to your personal accounts
And it's still going on!!! Funded by the working class.
How the fuck do 900 days of legal waffle cost 300 million - photocopying expenses and catering?!
" Milton Keynes , Wales and America " that company grew quick
And what we have now are even more corrupt,
God help us.
What do you mean, "It WAS", it still IS, they are just more careful.
And still it goes on ie Sean quinn
R T is coming across very badly here. Unsurprisingly.
Tuberty chatting away about money corruption. 🙄🙄🙄
So.. last few minuites. Tubs asks .. Was it Worth it? to the son of a man who expossed huge corruption and lies"
what a puppet tubridy is
Thanks a lot Thomas for speaking out on the Late Late. Very coherent . Ryan, good man for letting them speak all around. Time well shared. Well handled. Look forward to reading the book! and less forward to how I might feel after it!!
A good interview, but calling Ryan a good man? Seriously he a broadcaster, have you seen is paycheck? Us gobshites are paying these worker extortionate amounts.
He did a great service to the Republic.
Shocking
Makes a person ashamed to be born in that country.
Just wondering if Christy would still think we're in a better place now for all the corruption that was exposed then . I think the corruption will always be there except that it will be with new people. So really we are not in a better place and will never be.
And here we are in lockdown! Great viewing
and this shit is still going on today... all over the country...
it's a filthy place
I'd like Irish people to tell me what they think of Ryan Tubridy. The impression I get is that he is very unpopular.
He is a muppet, complete tool
Its this simple he is part of the government controlled RTE gaslighting machine, Simon Coveney FG minster for foreign affairs bro is director of strategy in fake news RTE that should tell you all you need to know.
He is a political bollox just lik buk before him
Exactly , tubridy is a puppet for the Irish government.
“And thus I clothe my naked villainy with old odd ends stolen forth from holy writ, and seem a saint when most I play the devil”
Horrible piece of human crap there at the start. Ray Burke (fingal) another one. Just out of sheer coincidence his former mansion was sold off to where now lies....*drum roll*...a shopping centre.
And nothings changed
Nothing has changed in Ireland that is corrupted to the core
The son is fit.
Jesus Christ , 19:40 he’s basically accusing the lad of bribery when in fact it was extortion. Does tubridy know the difference? Absolute clown
Yes, he's trying to sway public opinion - effing puppet
Karma for Tubridy the W.anker
did anyone go to jail.
Tubs hosting a chat on corruption.
Watching in 2023
This is a very important conversation.
The Irish Nepoleon summed them up You need a gallows at every corner to hang the traitors.
Dirty politicians: Bertie & Tubby Alysious Lunchbox. Amadans all.
very hard to listen too, what horrible people they are, No good deed goes unpunished. :(
why does the Media promote Tubridy so much.Ever wonder why he's so popular among the political classes, so called celebrities all love him. Why?
No wonder ireland is rotten to the core ffrs
The fact is,the common denominator with all parties involved is GREAD,all parties trying to achieve something in there lives, going about it in different ways.
Big boys rules,move on.
I think this bloke is a relative of mine on my grandmothers side McDermott from sligo my grandmother married a leyden from ardtrasna small world
Brown envelopes that was than what is it now Ryan ...
Says Tubriddy who ripped the working class of Ireland of
Still prevalent.Read Julie Grace's book " Abuse of Power because Councils can :"
Why did Gilmartin need lawler to find out who owned the land at Quarryvale...?
You should read Frank Connelly's book. Its very good. Gilmartin did'nt need Lawlor, but Lawlor got wind that Gilmartin was asking questions about developments and pushed his way in and immediately demanded money. When Gilmartin refused, Lawlor and George Redmond made life impossible for him. This whole episode in Irish history is an absolute embarrassment.
Cute hoors are feted in Ireland. The envelope culture is alive and well, it’s very much part of the culture in business and social settings.
Tuds a snake in the grass!!
Same thing happened then, at time of this interview, and same thing again now. Hopelessness pushing younger generations out. What a damn shame.
hmmm, youtube seems to have removed the 'reply' otption.
Sublime Thinker
.
Mmm Id like to know how many then eeeejits bought "Arise And Follow Charlie" and who now will admit to having the song somewhere in their collection..
The irony of it all hey Tubs?
Thing is, Bertie's resignation was the best thing that ever happened to him as he got out right before the housing crash and Cowen had to take all the shit for that. Some people have all the luck.
An nothing has fucking changed today!
Tom Gilmartin +1
2021, have things changed ?
Was watching the interview with Colm Meaney....Of course all comments are cancelled. Just wanted to comment that during the interview Colm mentioned how much Martin McGuiness was villafied by the Irish press , the bold Mr Tubrity sat like a prick as he was at the foremost of the bias against any republican with both Adams and McGuiness getting non stop attacks.
Banana republic septic isle.
Joe Burke will look after you,. He did not Tom. The enforcer a new book about to come out.
Has a lot in common with india
