    Ships are designed to be bottom heavy so they don’t capsize. You might to to add weights or a ballast system to stabilize your boats.

    • @archerbluth
      @archerbluth 2 ปีที่แล้ว +74

      They also looked dumb (meaning no propulsion). Ships and larger boats generally power into a wave to beat the break and have enough weight to generally push the bulbous bow (of bow, depending on ship type) through a wave as it starts breaking😆. If you’re in a punt or dinghy, pray for a safe clearing haha!
      I’m not a master (ship’s captain) though, but I’ve worked in the maritime regulation industry and have a very basic understanding of how to tackle waves and I’m happy to stand corrected 😂. Cool video nonetheless!!

    This actually reminds me of the MS München she was a German cargo ship crossing the Northern Atlantic sea. In 1978 a distress call was received from the MS München but the ship vanished and all that was recovered was a lone life boat drifting out at sea but no sign of the crew, it is widely believed that a rogue wave more than 33 metres high sank that ship and it was this ship sinking that lead scientists to acknowledge the existence of rogue waves

    • @shroder2748
      @shroder2748 2 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      One actually hit a beach which was near where I grew up. It destroyed most of the tree's, the promenade was damaged pretty badly, a couple restaurants got flooded and some people/cars where dragged into the ocean. Rogue waves are absolutely terrifying, honestly more than Tsunamis since it's impossible to predict one. It's only when the wave does not get smaller as it reaches the shore does it dawn on you

      Scientists had to dismiss the linear wave theory after they measured the Draupner wave. In theory these waves could become up to 60 meters high in the middle of the oceans. The water pressure from such a wave is enough to capsize and sink any vessel. It will break through any window and crush a lot of steel hulls.
      Only way to be safe is in a submarine.

      This is true for all materials in general because of physics. Things appear to withstand more stress at smaller scales because the dimension of stress is proportional to the inverse of length. Thus, in an equivalent dimensionless scenario where the scale is larger, you also need to have a larger stress, but materials can only withstand a finite amount of stress.
      This is why small objects appear "strong" for their size (ex: ants, legos) while large objects appear wobbly and "squishy" (ex: bridges, ships). This is also why we can't build infinitely large structures

    In the Fall of 1991, the "Andrea Gail" left Gloucester, Mass. and headed for the fishing grounds of the North Atlantic. Two weeks later, an event took place that had never occurred in recorded history.

    I would love to see a hyper realistic Lego ship game. Intense waves and you're trying to rebuild your ship. While there's also fish trying to break the ship, then when the game ends, you find yourself in a huge pile of plastic covering the ocean
