    We take the porta power hydraulic 20 ton jack and pop all the dents on the roof of our 1964 VW/Volkswagen Beetle and then start to strip the paint off to bare metal. It's a collision job that My Friend Pete will never forget. Major damage repaired and showing you how to do it right!

    Maxwell is missing Texas as well. He came back to visit the gang at the shop and looking good. Excellent use of the ports-power and bottom bracing over the floor. Another good lesson on how to quickly push out a badly dented roof skin.
    Thanks Minnie & Pete. It a file keeper!

    I started working in a body shop after school and on weekends in 1964. The first vehicle that I helped with was a 1961 VW that had hydro-planed on a wet road and rolled down an embankment, crushing the top and front fenders. We all learned on that one (it was the shop's first VW). VW steel is not the same as US steel. They "work" differently. This brings back a lot of good memories...

    I cherish these repair videos, shows real craftsman ship. I worked in a collision shop, I would call that shop a “replacement” shop. They replaced every little thing. Seem like they Avoided repairs, the damage could be the size of a baseball and would opt to replace it.

    Amazing to get a blow-by-blow tutorial on this technique...you knew just where to start to get the metal to straighten out. Is this the way they used to do it before bondo was invented? I really appreciate the craft in this!

    Dear Pete and Minnie . I could see from your first video when you started the roof re-curving that you had a plan. That first dent at the right b-pillar was the bitch and that went very well. You are lucky Pete , to have Minnie to bounce a plan off of, and watch over the process with you. There is no doubt in my mind that Maxwell will look as good as new !. I had forgotten that the car was named Maxwell. When you said that Maxwell will be happy after the deadblow took out the last major part of the dent, I thought you were referring to the song " Maxwell silver hammer ". I had a little chuckle... Good work you two, good old school know how. Good help is hard to find. A tip of my hat to you both !!!.

    That was a good one. I had 3 motors with me on the lake Tuesday. The 1992 3hp made in Belgium Johnson ran great but the 1965 Evinrude 3hp ran like crap and wouldn't get up and go. the 3rd motor was my mini kota to do some fishing which sucked. water still too cold around here. fish were all sleeping

    • @diyautoschool
      @diyautoschool  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no fishing here either.. Bad thing about fishing the lakes around here is it's all stock fish and if you eat them they taste like MUD!

    I love these videos. I have one question. If you have a roof that is double walled, do you cut out the one underneath the outer skin or do you use a spot welder dent puller and just work from the outside? Thanks!

    Will there be any possibility of some small area of the dent reappearing with temperature changes and wind pressure? How would you stabilize this fix?
