    Just did the same Power Pro workup today with 123gr Hornady out of my 18" Grendel and got the exact same result. 28.0 had sub MOA results at 100 yards and every other load just opened up. Thank you for the great video even years later.

    i've worked up a load with this bullet using 8208xbr to 27.3gr. also shooting an 18in barrel (odinworks), non-suppressed, and can consistently do 1/2in 5-shot groups. however, mine are seated at 0.010" off the lands and not just max c.o.a.l. other than the slight pressure signs that you also saw, it's been a great shooting bullet! they're hornady brass also, and probably have 8 or 9 reloads on them - annealed a couple times. definitely getting beat up a bit!

    You should try Dtube , also I'd love to see you test 6.5grendel/ 108gr Scenar their BC is .465 which is still pretty good and 108gr is closer to a normal weight for the cartridge. The trajectory should considerably flatter , basically only a few inches off zero all the way out to 400 yards.

    Sierra book is overly conservative with XBR for some reason. Everything else shows max charge with a 123 SMK at 28.5gr and compressed. I found with my barrel that is exactly what it wants too.

  • @randad9333
    @randad9333 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I doubt if you monitor these older videos, but I have a 6.5 grendel bolt gun, and haven't found pressure yet, have starline brass, cci msrp, and 123 gr8 sierras. Only shot test loads up to 27.7 gr. Of 8208 xbr. Have more loaded up to 28.5. Got .53" with 27.7. 😉

  • @thatguyoverthere2288
    @thatguyoverthere2288 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey johnnys, bill alexander has said he recommends accuracy testing the grendel at 200 yards because it's not quite stable at 100 sometimes. Might be worth a try. A 1.5 inch group at 100 yards might also be 1.5 at 200.

    • @jimhans1
      @jimhans1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      nate Storey problem with that theory is that it's been disproven by every accuracy magazine and tester who has tried to test it. Nobody has been able to provide any evidence that Bullets are unstable at short distance and then miraculously become stable farther out, if they grouped bad at short distance, they grouped bad farther also.

    • @thatguyoverthere2288
      @thatguyoverthere2288 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      jimhans1 I tested it with my grendel back when i had it and seemed to back it up. But that's just me and the guy who designed it.

    • @jimhans1
      @jimhans1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      nate Storey he is the same man who recommends loads that are 1-2gr OVER industry maximum loads!
      Please post me some info to confirm that an unstable bullet becomes stable the longer it flies if possible, since I've yet to find any that actually does prove it. There have been lots who have postulated that it happens, but then they can't make it work.

    • @thatguyoverthere2288
      @thatguyoverthere2288 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      jimhans1 how bout this, you don't like his loads or ideas? Dont use em. Dont wanna try it? Dont. I'm just throwing an idea out there for the man since he reads em.

    • @jimhans1
      @jimhans1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      nate Storey I have tested the theory, out well past 200 yards, loads that grouped bad at 100 still stayed bad out well past 200, they didn't improve. The whole "they settle down at long range" theory has been debunked decades ago, it's a theory held on to by marginal shooters making marginal ammo to justify their time is all.

Is going to be starting point for my +p+ loads using shell shok for a 16" carbine ar. Not a grand manual but some nice data on all western powders. Glad to see your still producing. • @kylevanwinkle2081
      @kylevanwinkle2081 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Paradis for everyone with bad results there is a person with good results. Most videos I've seen have been with 18-20inch barrels which shave a good bit of velocity from what is capable. Not only that with only 1 company making 224 if your gun don't like those 4 choices and you don't reload you will have issues. Twist rates have varied from 1/8 to 1/6.5. It's a new cartridge there will be going pains but at least it's not as bad as 22nosler which is prolly gonna get discontinued in the near future

    • @paulparadis66

    Are you losing velocity by using a semi auto and suppressor? I got higher velocities out of my Ruger American 6.5 Grendel and found my velocities suffered and accuracy faltered when I added a suppressor. I'm wondering if the chamber pressures when traveling through the suppressor causes accuracy issues.

  • @benjaminbrown1179

    Now that you've slightly fireformed this beautiful new brass... I'd like to see what the same powder charges produce in velocity, s.d., and groups with a slight bump. Thinking 8208 might be an option for my 6.5 Swede... Thanks again!

    I wonder how the better groups would do now with fire formed brass. Would the SDs be as good? I'm willing to bet the groups would be smaller. In any event, I was very impressed with the SDs and the Fed match primers.

    • @MrPaco1013
      @MrPaco1013 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      njgrplr2007
      You can't use fire formed brass in a semi auto. That's only for bolt action rifles.

    • @njgrplr2007
      @njgrplr2007 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrPaco1013 I'm not talking about firing the rounds in the AR and then not resizing prior to refiring. My experience is fire forming followed by annealing, bumping the shoulder back 2 thousands and neck sizing yields much better accuracy and SDs than new brass.

    Another great video, thanks Johnny!! Just from my experience I have used 8208 XBR with my 18 inch Grendel and have had excellent groups with the Hornady 123gr SST. I don't have a chronograph so don't know what the velocities or SD's were but had one 5 shot group from a bench rest and bags at .58 inches at 100 yds which is the best I have ever shot. Hodgdon and the Lyman manuals showed a max load of 28.5C so I went with 28gr to be safe, CCI 400 SR primers, 2.250 C.O.L., but it did cause raised ejector marks on some of the Hornady brass just to let you know. On a side note has anyone used or have one of these chronos (Competition Electronics 538002-SSI ProChrono Digital Chronograph), any feedback would be greatly appreciated?

    Hey guys just wanted to get your opinion on going from a single stage press to a progressive like the Hornady AP press. While I enjoy reloading sometimes I hate how tedious it can get. (Especially weighing powder) For me it takes about 5-6 hours for 50 rounds. I'm mostly loading rifle calabers but plan on expanding in the future. Any import would be great!

    • @robertspivey46
      @robertspivey46 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      173rdUSmilitary, it depends on what you want to do with your gun. If your just out plinking lots of ammo or stocking up your battle stash, go with progressive reloader. Competition and accuracy rounds it's best to stick with the single stage. I use my Lee single stage for load work up and accuracy. Then I use Hornady A&P for bulk loading.
