To be fair, they still allow you to redownload purchased titles from the Wii shop, so it probably isn't going away any time soon. If they were to create a solution, it would be much simpler, they would just make Pokémon Bank work through local communication.

My pet theory is that they’ll shut down Bank once every Pokémon is available in at least one switch game (barring mythicals)
I believe currently we are just missing Patrat, the elemental monkeys, and Furfrou. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get all of those in Z-A because they were all in the Kalos Dex, so the end may be closer than we think

I'm more inclined to think they would shut bank down once they put the old games on the switch, sorta like the virtual console on 3DS
Otherwise there wouldn't be a way to complete all the Home missions, like transferring the Kanto starters from FireRed and LeafGreen, or Ho-Oh and Lugia from HG and SS respectively

From what I understand from Lyra's video on Casinos in Pokémon Games, it was tough for Game Freak to release older titles like Red and Blue because of the age rating increase brought by PEGI around the release of Platinum, which effectively made the VC releases of Red and Blue have a age rating of 12. For some reason, this age rating change for games with gambling has now been altered to 18+. This means that if Game Freak wanted to release these remakes (and internationally), they would need to somehow convince PEGI to exempt the older titles from the current rules or give them the same age rating as the VC versions of RBY and GSC.

  • @Mrperson0
    @Mrperson0 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

I don't see them shutting Bank down anytime soon. The amount they pay for server space for each player is extremely minuscule, and we are technically paying for Bank to HOME transfers through the HOME Premium subscription. There's also the fact that, if they shut down Bank without a proper replacement, we'll be back to fan outcry on a level worse than Dexit since people would compare it to how we were angry about not being able to transfer from Gen 2 to Gen 3.
As for a proper replacement, they would need to make a pseudo 3DS + Switch cartridge, since shutting down Bank would shut down people from transferring from Gen 6 to Gen 7. Whether they actually work on something like that, who knows. In the end, hopefully, if they announce it shutting down, they will give us a year's notice or so.

It was a lot of fun, I even got a friend to help me out too with my spare copy of leaf green and I purchased a link cable so that we could trade and battle. Call me a debby downer but I highly doubt Nintendo would release any kind of peripheral to connect the old games to the switch. Just like how Gen 1-2 couldn't connect to Gen 3 (despite being near the end of pokemania and there definitely being a demand for it) there just isn't enough incentive to release such a device for a "small" group of people when it's far easier to just add all 1000+ pokemon onto the switch via various games and remakes. Even the hope for a offline version of Pokemon Bank isn't something I'm holding my breath for

    • @grydon6422
      @grydon6422 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

The gen 2 to gen 3 conmectivoty has absolutely no connection to this situation. They couldn’t get it to work back then, because the hardware changes between Gameboy color and advance, and also probably because Pokemon changed a lot between those gens (EVs, IVs, Abilities, Natures etc) so they couldn’t get the gen2 data to translate to gen 3.
Having the ability to transfer older pokemon to newer games has been a staple of the series from the beginning, and is clearly an important factor to Game Freak. So disconnecting the older games from newer ones is a huge deal and they know it.
This doesn’t mean they absolutely will create an alternative solution, because they are still older games and it’s way past those games’ prime so less and less people actually play them anymore, and they might think it’s okay to leave those games out of the continuity. Also when they announced that Bank will probably eventually shut down, they mentioned that better transfer now than later, which would indicate that no alternative is coming.
I sure hope something is coming though, because that is one of the biggest aspects of Pokemon I like; even now Im playing through Pokemon Colosseum and XD for the first time and I want to transfer those Shadow Pokemon with the special ribbon to the Switch titles to have cool exclusive competitive Pokemon. And many similar things would be taken away from the series

The Pokémon Company does NOT care about anyone's Origin Dex, or the indefinite ability to transfer Pokemon up from old hardware. They don't make any money off the sale of used games. However, they know that some of the biggest spenders and top poke-influencers still use the old stuff, so they're incentivized to keep Bank working for now.
I could see them releasing full-price Virtual Console style releases of the GB and GBA games, but with Gen 4 already being remade, and Gen 5 probably not far off, I think the DS and 3DS games will be lost to time in the not-too-distant future.
If the Switch 2 does feature the ability to play DS and 3DS games, MAYBE we see VC versions of Gen 6 and 7, but I'm sure they'd love to sell remakes of those some day, too.
EDIT: If your plan is to back up saves to a PC anyway, may as well emulate the old games and skip the hassle of cartridges and pricy hardware to rip the saves.

If the transfer does not work anymore in the future, then we are in trouble. Transporter and Bank are easy to replace since all the conversion and storage logic they do can also be replicated locally through homebrew. But we cannot replace the home link or home itself, because of the unique ID and tracking data that Home assigns to your Pokemon upon being transfered to the Gen8/9 ecosystem.

they could release a transfer specific app on the switch that will use the trading system of the 3DS games.
so the switch will emulate a 3DS game and will trade with the actual game, then convert it to a Home pokemon.
you could also use it to help get older games event pokemon, for example they could do an event that if you use the app during it you will receive a random legendary/mythical into the old game.

there are just two simple solutions i can think of right now
    1
make pokemon bank work offline and the transfer to through local connections
    2
release black, white, black2, white2, x, y, omega ruby, alpha saphire, sun, moon, ultra sun and ultra moon on the switch and just make them compatabile with the local trading option of the original games
that way u can transfer ur mons up to gen 5 and trade them over to the game on the switch
since the 3ds games dont have another way of transfering ur pokemon up if u get certain pokemon on those games u have to directly trade them over to the switch games

I like the first idea with the hardware, but I don't think we necessarily need Nintendo / Game Freak for that. Devices that allow you to back up save data from GBA/DS cartridges to a PC already exist. Adding a quick USB-C port to connect these with a standard USB-C cable to a Nintendo Switch is no big deal. The biggest deal would actually be on the software side, as someone would have to write an unofficial homebrew program which would transfer Pokémon from a cartridge to an applicable Switch game, just like the generation 4 and 5 games did, or even write a whole homebrew version of Pokémon HOME. There already is a similar Pokémon Bank homebrew alternative on the 3DS, one would only need a similar software on the Switch.
It's technically relatively easy to do, the obvious issue is just - it's homebrew. I certainly don't want to mod a system with ongoing online support and fiddle all these things at the risk of losing save data. I would much rather prefer an official solution, which is an issue of the role of game preservation on GameFreak's agenda, rather than costs and technology. They will do it, once they want to, if they ever want to. As a game company, they obviously want players to buy their new games, not to stick to older games. If the majority of players prefers to stick with older games, the companies won't make money, thus making the Pokémon IP as a whole slowly more obscure, as it competes against other media IPs in the never-ending war for attention.
The reason why Pokémon Bank is still online at all, despite not being profitable, is that it serves an important role in the Pokémon video game eco-system. Being able to collect all species of Pokémon is a core element the franchise is built on. Since not all Pokémon species are yet available on the current console generation, Pokémon Bank is there to allow players to collect the missing ones.
I think the key aspect is Pokémon *SPECIES*, - variations thereof can indeed go missing over time, see several event Pokémon, Cosplay Pikachu, etc. For GameFreak, the ability to collect all possible Pokémon ever seems not important, but collecting every species seems to be.
I guess, whether we will be able to officially transfer Pokémon from older games to newer ones in the future, once Pokémon Bank shuts down, just depends on Pokémon's will to preserve accessibility to older titles. It largely depends on whether the current Nintendo Switch Pokémon titles will run seamlessly on the successor console, or whether Game Freak will have to come up with more tricks in the race against time.
If I had to decide on this matter, from Pokémon's perspective, I would say "Yeah, let's do this! Because why not? Different variations of those cheap devices already exist, just slap some images of Pikachu, Charizard, etc. on it, sell them for a big ROI, make a software update for Pokémon HOME to able to transfer Pokémon, and voila! The retro players are happy, the older Pokémon are preserved, we get extra money!"

The solution I am thinking of is just to being back DS Download Play. For the Switch 2 give it the hardware to do that, update Home with a DS Download Play app it can broadcast, and basically allow a one way path from any GBA to 3DS game into Home. And, an additional benefit is that avoids some of the clunkiness (and completing a game along each step requirement) of the original gen 3 to gen 4 and gen 4 to gen 5 methods.

I was thinking about the same thing. Game freak could release physical hardware that could transfer pokemon directly from any physical cartridge to switch. If you hack in a Pokémon from the 3DS to the Switch, it will have a missing/invalid HOME Tracker, meaning you can't deposit it to Home (so you'll have to hack in manually Pokémon from game to game, and this will not guarantee its future transfer to the next generation). 😭
(Unless, of course, you GEN a pokémon - you can find lots of them in the Project Pokémon site -, because apparently Home lets Pokémon with duplicated HOME trackers in, and apparently even assigns it a new HOME Tracker later - though I can't confirm any of this info, so take it with a grain of salt -, but that means you also can't change a legal pokémon's immutable values IN THE SLIGHTEST when doing it, or else error 10015 😄)

In regards to that porting question, that is pretty unlikely. Even if older fans would appreciate ports of the older games on the Switch, it wouldn't net Nintendo and Pokémon enough sales. Besides, those two companies's target demographic are kids, and kids would rather play with newer games than rather games that would now be considered outdated.
And no, you cannot say Nintendo hates makes making money. They would rather make more money than less money, so making new games over porting old ones makes more sense.
