@@darkboromirify There were a few things Oda wanted to add but couldn't due to lack of time/space. For instance, the anime episode(s) with Usopp and the sniper in Loguetown is not in the manga but is cannon. Though, I'm not sure if Zoro becoming a temp Marine was in Oda's intentions

Former army here, Warrent officers are specialists in their specific field of work. They are an officer rank that are the go to for help in their job classification. They go from warrent officer to warrent officer 5 the latter are the upmost experts and are rarer to see than unicorns.

So you mean to tell me that, unless something changes, by the end of One Piece there will have been more people with the title of Pirate King, and possibly more people to sit on the Empty Throne, than will have the rank of Seaman First Class? Named characters. Of course there are thousands of people holding this position, but they are not important
You can not quit, but in the Air Force, you can do this thing called Palace Chase where essentially, you can go get out early and either go guard or reserve. BUT it is difficult to get because 1, it depends on if there are spots open for you to leave, and 2, timing. Every contract in the military is either 4 or 6 years. Technically all contracts are for 8 years because of inactive ready reserves. So basically, if we have to go to war for whatever reason, then the president can call on people in the IRR to fill the ranks. Still, most people do not see the 8 years because it is usually eaten up by waiting for a job before going to Basic Training. I'm active duty and was a recruiter for the Air Force, so if you have any questions, please let me know.
If you can’t quit, what about discharges? How do those work?
most contracts have you for basically 8 years. You can go half active and half reserved (on stand-by) he didn't quite he just didn't re-enlist.

Q1 - I've been watching ignorant/idiotic people tanking their careers in many civilian (nurse, cop, teacher, etc.) jobs because they refuse to get the *COVID Vaccine.* In the Navy, getting Vaccinated would be a direct order, so would refusing to get Immunised get you sent to the brig/prison for refusing orders? Could refusing the Vaccine end your career in the Marines/Navy?

Q2 - If a petty or enlisted officer (I suspect it would be different for different ranks) was sent to the brig/prison for assault on an officer - or something as equally offensive - would they return to active service (to serve out the remainder of their enlistment from the time of their arrest) after they're released, or do they get dishonorably discharged?

Q3 - As a civilian, It seems like there are two tiers of sailors entering the navy/marines/etc.:
• One tier is looking at the service as a temporary job, or stepping stone to university (or politics, etc.)
• The other tier is looking for a lifelong career & may have deep convictions in the purpose of the navy.
I don't know if the double tiers even exist, or if their their day to day responses to work would be all that different, but would the lifers get a better attitude from the officers, or doesn't it matter?

It's been disturbing as hell to see so many people in positions of relative authority (police, politician, nurse, priest, teacher, etc.) suddenly demonstrating such profound scientific ignorance, extraordinary irrationality & shocking selfishness - during this devastating Pandemic (in refusing to wear a mask, not socially isolating & above all in refusing to get Vaccinated - with tragic, but inevitable, results). In sharp contrast, I've been gratified by both what I've seen in the media & heard about online concerning individuals in all branches of the military - especially how much you all trust the Science (over pseudo-science woo & dubious political rhetoric).

in the military you sign contracts for how long you’re gonna serve and then you can choose to sign another or to separate. and the two types of military personnel are ENLISTED (lower ranks) and OFFICERS. getting an officer rank is called getting a commission, and generally requires a certain educational degree
Yup, unless you get severely injured ro the point you are unable to perform your duties and you're medically discharged
Officers don't sign contracts for X years. Their service obligations come from going to schools, but besides that they can resign their commission at (nearly) any time.
@@jonathanherge7642 that all depends. some officers have stipulations on their initial commission if they either got their degree at a military college or got student loan forgiveness as part of their commission, they often do a 4 yr agreement to start in those cases. also, depends on branch etc

huh, this explains the Warrant Officer rank handed to Suzaku Kururugi early on in Code Geass since he's an honorary britanian he can't be an officer due to prejudice in the system but because he's got peak level piloting ability they have to acknowledge his exceptional skill they have to give him something decently high so Warrant Officer being an in between rank from enlisted to officer rank.
Yep, it actually really works out at least from an army perspective cause all helicopter pilots, in the Army at least, are warrant officers and essentially what they did in Geass was say "all right we get it he's the best pilot we have, but only britanians can be officers so he can be a warrant... its also why when Euphie made him her knight they said he was being promoted to Major because that's a massive leap in rank in the Army he would have jumped over 7 ranks which doesn't happen even to like Medal of Honor recipients and people who die in combat where at best you might get 1 postumopus promotion

Hi tekking! I’ve been a big fan of you since I was in 5th grade. I’m actually a United States Marine myself! The warrant officers are specialists in the specific jobs the marine corps has. They’re actually really rare because you have to completely master your job to be considered for warrant officer promotion. Oda was actually really good about structuring his ranks !

Koby has been training only for like 2 years and 2 months and already has like decent haki, I mean he not luffy level but luffy has been trainining for like 12 years, I think Koby gets stronger faster then luffys

Fun fact, Master Chief Petty Officer is the Maximum Rank that the main character (John 117) is able to achieve as he is a non-commissioned officer. And yes, the "Space Marines" are all part of the UNSC Navy. You'd probably enjoy the lore in Halo: Ancient Civilizations, Covert Government/Military Operations and protagonist who takes down entire armies! :)

The UNSC Marines are a separate branch from the navy.
Exactly how the structure works kind of differs from country to country. Some countries do allow non-commissioned officers to rise throughout all the ranks while some others don't.
We never did get Belle-mere’s official marine rank, did we?(it’s been so long…). She had the officer coat, but that’s about all we get.
It would make so much sense to have an admiral stationed at Sabody at all times. The worst generation could have been cut down before they could develop their haki.
Most of the slaves that the celestial dragons buy are captured by pirates, they probably don't want the law strictly enforced there.
Plus, non of the admirals other than Akainu really give a shit about their jobs.
Kizaru had every opportunity to capture or kill the entire worst generation. And he just didn't, for no apparent reason.
To be fair I'm willing to bet some of them already knew haki by the time they got there

you can't just leave the military whenever you want no matter what rank you are. You have to complete your contract which states the amount of time you swore to serve. The only exception is if you are injured or become mentally disabled during military service, you might be medically discharged.

@@Vibricks generally its more like tours (so year blocks), and you can leave but the ways out typically range from discharged with honor (cause you physically got hurt to the point you can't serve), going awol which I believe has many legal ramifications (basically running away on contract), and dishonorably discharged aka fired, which usually also comes with penalties. Like any contract based job you basically set the agreement up front and have to meet them or face agreed penalty. ( no one in the military would have a month to month contract)
@@Vibricks no. You sign for several year stints which are typically either 4 or 5 years. Some Army contracts allow 3 year enlistments, but in the Marine Corps we had 4 and 5 year enlistments. I did 5 years.
Actually some officers can technically "quit" within certain conditions. Enlisted...not at all lol
@@calvinsimpson1301 I think a thing that can be added here is that you can be enlisted for that period but not necessarily deployed, you probably have the personal experience to add on to this. Just some limbo zone were you are still in the military and under contract but are not active.
Hey Tekking, I’m a big fan and I’m in the Marines. I’m also applying to become a Warrant Officer. I’m not sure about the Navy but for Marines, Warrant Officers are subject matter experts in their field. That is why they are different from enlisted and officers. Also, to answer your question about if officers want to leave they have obligated service time. During that time if they mess up in a big way they can be discharged quickly. However, after that obligated service time they can choose when to retire. It is usually around the 20 years mark. I hope this helps in some way. Keep doing your thing.
You're absolutely correct about Han using the bowcaster in The Force Awakens, humans don't have the strength to use them, however some other exceptionally strong species can use them such as the Kyuzo

Just for research purposes, I'd like to see Tashigi as the Commander-in-Chief of the WG.
Petty comes from the French word "Petite" ~ meaning "Little". In many Navies the Petty Officer Ranks make up the backbone of the service, with an Enlisted Officer giving the orders & petty officers commanding a team of lesser sailors.

For the British army perspective, You can enlist into the military as a second lieutenant and do the relevant training right away and be seen as a junior officer. You can also start as a private in the infantry and progress to become a warrant officer, upon becoming a warrant officer you can sign a commission to become a second lieutenant and sit the relevant training and be seen as an experienced officer.
You guys call becoming a 2Lt enlisting? We call that a commission

So I was rewatching when Kizaru shows up for the first time. When he sees drake he says oh rear admiral drake oops I mean Ex rear admiral. Don’t tell me your doing doing reconnaissance on them. At first I thought he meant the pacifistas but after watching again I think he means the pirates and the recon is for sword. Also in this scene Hawkins gives Drake a weird look like he knows he’s undercover. Everyone should go back and watch it again I think it’s awesome foreshadowing
My thoughts on Warrant officer: it might also be something like a Battlefield promotion to an officer. Heated combat, a few high ranking marines go down or are occupied fighting, but need an officer to oversee some important task and command. Pick out a promising candidate and promote them to warrant officer. After everything is over, the promotion will be reviewed. They did well, they get promoted to ensign. They didn't, they are returned to their previous rank.
Compounding this with your idea, It might also have something to do with a review process. Promising officer does something worthy of becoming an officer, promoted to warrant officer for the duration of the review. Review board process the request back at HQ, and if they pass, they are an Ensign. For those that are expected to be promoted, this is likely to be just a rubber stamp, the actual review having happened long ago, so only takes the time to get a message to HQ about it, and them to send a reply. A few days at most. An unexpected candidate would take a bit longer. Message sent to HQ, files and background check on them is gathered. Materials reviewed, meetings held, and a choice on whether to promote them or not is made. Then a message is sent back to confirm or deny the promotion, which might take weeks.

Hi Tekking. (US Naval Veteran here) In the United States, the Navy and Marines are actually all under the Secretary of the Navy. It comes down to semantics if you consider the US Navy and US Marines separate branches. As both are actually well intertwined with each other (Marine Medics come from the Navy is one example). Also Enlisted are just enlisted until you are E-5 Paygrade (Marine Sargent | Second Class Petty Officer) Which they are classified as Non-Commission Officers. Warrant Officers are Super Specialists in a specific technical field. They are considered Field Experts. Warrants are and are treated as Commissioned officers. You can only become a Warrant through being enlisted and going through Warrant Candidate School. Officers are fully Commissioned from the Start. Most come from College via ROTC, Military Colleges like USNA or some via in Service Programs (US Army calls theirs: Green to Gold ).

Making a video on what happens to marines who know to much and want to retire would be interesting. I can think of three out comes 1. General inspector like garp 2. A special retirement island where the government showers them in luxury for the rest of their life 3. Execution if they were also corrupt or would crack under pressure in interrogation
Given the massive difference in power and experience between marines of the same rank, I wonder if they have addendums, like blue captain and paradise captain.

My theory is that once you are promoted to Admiral if you do not have a devil fruit you are given one. For example I don't think Fujitora had the Zushi Zushi no mi before he joined I think he was recruited and then given the fruit.

Coby's always wanted to capture and arrest pirates, which isn't something Admirals usually get a chance to do. So I don't see him becoming an Admiral. He'd probably follow more in the footsteps of Garp, maybe even being the one to eventually bring Luffy in.
Assuming that Drake doesn't die or defect and become a pirate in more than name only, I can totally see him becoming an Admiral should the opportunity present itself. He's already got a powerful devil fruit ability and a great reputation to boot. I honestly can't imagine him becoming anything less.

I really doubt Smoker would ever become Fleet Admiral. He'd have to be an Admiral first, which likely wouldn't happen for the same reason as with Coby: he's more interested in taking down pirates (especially Luffy) and enforcing the law than sitting in an office and making executive decisions from afar. But even if he did become an Admiral, Fleet Admiral isn't really a rank you get promoted to. It's an appointed position. Remember, Sengoku _chose_ Aokiji to replace him; he didn't get promoted. Very critical wording there. Besides, as Fleet Admiral he'd have to listen to the heads of the World Gov't a lot and actually have very little if any freedom to do what he wants, how he wants and when he wants to.

typically speaking, enlisted can only serve for around 30 years before being forced to retire and officers can serve for 40. as for the different requirements between the two being an officer typically requires a 4 year degree, you can do this while being enlisted but most get the degree before joining

Hey Tekking, 12 year US Army vet here. There are three tracks for being in the US military. There are Enlisted, Warrant, and Officer. Enlisted has no certain criteria for coming in, and can promote in different ways based on the different services (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine). Warrant is a track that specializes in a certain career, (mechanic, helicopter pilot for Army, IT, etc.). They are generally considered to be the more knowledgeable in their field. In the army, they have to attend a specialized schooling. Officer has a requirement of having a college degree to begin. They are the commanders and executive officers for units and platoons in the Army. I can’t speak for the other services on this. Hope this helps.
You have to finish your contract to quit the military. You basically sign a new one for a certain amount of years and either keep signing the until you age out or choose not to typically
There are ways to void your contract, but that usually isn't such a great idea

It goes further. The navy has it's own army too, the marines. Also the army has it's own aircraft carriers though they are more so assault ships and aren't big ocean going vessels like the navy ships are. The army also has it's own helicopters as does the navy. In some countries all the helicopters belong to the army.
I'm in the military myself so I love seeing how weird anime military structures are. One gripe I have for you though Tekking101 : several times you seemed to use "infantry" interchangeably with "enlisted", which isn't really how it works. Infantry is a JOB that an enlisted person may have, but not all enlisted members are infantry. Enlisted is the counterpart to Officer, and dictates which of the promotional ladders you climb. Personally I'm enlisted but my job as an enlisted person is an avionics technician.

Just in case nobody has mentioned it, Rapanui Pasqua is a reference to Easter Island.
Easter in Spanish is Pascua (Isla de Pascua = Easter Island), while Rapa Nui is the name of the native people, the language of those people AND the island itself in that language.

Still Garp, Coby has potential he's just not there yet. Garp is strong, loyal, principled, doesn't subscribe to the whole "absolute justice" garbage like sakazuki does. He's old and while still strong will because of it probably not be a future fight for Luffy and I like that. I would love for Green Bull to have a plant Zoan, maybe a mythical, and if he was awakened that would just be gravy. We need some full fledged awakened Zoans, not the prison guards who have lost all sense of self or chopper who needs the rumble ball.

Hey Tekking!! I love your long videos but I do know you want to also make more content and I noticed more people like brago are making long videos like you but are cutting them into parts and why not make that work perfectly for you!! You can talk for hours so why not make more longer videos like this and cut them in half and that way you increase your content with what your already doing!!!
I think Tekking way of doing TH-cam is actually better. I am sure he have more viewers retention then someone like bragos. Sure he doesn't put much ads in his longer video so dividing it will be good way to get more ad revenue but usually episodes doesn't do well on TH-cam. People will easily get overwhelmed and the later parts don't get as much views.
