Such a fun video for me to make! I hope you enjoy! Leave a comment and let me know what you love to read for quick, weekend reads! Special Thanks to Dr. Chase for being the best sport :)
Just wait. Those phones will be blowing up as this video gets views. It won't be long before we will have to have a message saying "We are experiencing a higher than normal amount of calls and your call is important to us. Please hold the line for the next representative. Your call will be answered in the order received."
I'm glad to see someone talking about Douglas Adams. So many people talk about Pratchett, but I think Douglas Adams is absolutely one of the greatest satirists who ever lived and he should be talked about more. Hitchhiker's Guide is great.
I like to read light and cheery tales such as Beowulf when on vacation 😁 lol, not really. Great video! I’m usually going to grab a mystery for long weekends/vacation. I love Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie, the Three Pines series, and many many more. Have a great week!
I'm loving the Murderbot Diaries right now for low-investment reads. I'm so attached to the main character and the plot is engaging enough without feeling too heavy or convoluted. I've read three now and each one takes me 1-3 days I think. Highly recommend it! And thanks for the video! Great suggestions!
Great video! Loved the Beowulf phone lines! And I always really appreciate your one for the road thoughts. They always strike a chord with me and give me something to think about. My favourite quick weekend reads have been anything Discworld and the Harry Potter books, especially the audiobooks.
🤣🤣 Brian I can't with you! Your videos always leave me with a good laugh, but that Beowulf hotline took me out! Out of all these, I think I really want to read Legends and Lattes. Sounds like I'd enjoy it.
One For The Road is so true. I learned that about a couple years ago. It was just taking me several months to finish one book. Realized I needed to mix things up and hit shorter, more fun reads to help keep things fresh. And funny enough, a couple days ago I made my September TBR: Oathbringer followed by Legends and Lattes. Been looking forward to both. Another great video, Brian!
I really appreciate the compliment and, more importantly, really glad the message resonates with you. That's my whole goal here! Enjoy both of those excellent reads!
He's standing by, ready to talk your call. Please note, call volumes are higher than expected. We apologize for any inconvenience. All calls are answered in the order they are received.
Confession time: I DNF'd Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...lol. This was waaaaaaaaay back when I was a little baby teenager, so mayhaps it's time to give it another try. YES, YES, YES to Legends & Lattes and Piranesi! I also want to throw my 2 cents in behind Brian and what he said about Piranesi - do not read the book description - go in blind or use it for your "blind date with a book" adventure. I have NEVER DIE here on my shelf, but I've not read it yet...no way I can squeeze it in this weekend, though you've definitely made me want to. Okay, Brian. Go grab the middle grade graphic novel Bea Wolf - it's a fun retelling of Beowulf I read recently and it was such a delight!
I do read at a middle grade level. You know me well! Thank you for the public support on my view on Piranesi. Drives me bonkers when BookTube starts telling people the premise. I think you'd like Hitchhiker's WAY more now as an adult. The jokes will land as you've had life experience that will make more sense now. And if it still doesn't work, then launch it into space forever. Assuming you have a rocket. If not, you are on your own.
Beowulf is really good! Philip isn’t lying! Haha! You’re making me want to reread Piranesi. It’s such a beautiful story! I also had some wonderful dreams from that book. I don’t have anything in particular I reach for if I have a few days off, but I think novellas like Elric saga stories work well!
Great video, Brian! I loved Rob J Hayes - thanks for reminding me to continue with that series. They’re short, sweet, and filled with awesomeness. And Then There Were Non is my favourite Christie I’ve read. Great recs across the board. I love short holiday books. But I love long holidays 🙌🏻🤙🏻
These types of lists are always great and i loved the variety of the recommendations! I have a copy of Legends and Lattes that I plan to get to soon, but I'm not sure I read fast enough to get it all in during a long weekend 😅. That Agatha Christie books sounds like a banger, I'll definitely be checking that out. I've been scared to dive into Piranesi, but ill probably get to that at some point too. Never Die has also been on my radar, so I really need to pick that up soon as well. Love your plug for Beowulf at the end 😂. I have read it, but it's been a while and I've been very curious to read Tolkien's translation of it eventually.
Love this video! One I might also add would be a book that I recently had this exact experience with, is Tress of the Emerald Sea. Doesn't require prior cosmere knowledge, and is such a fun, fast, refreshing read!
I’m reading Alex Verus novels this weekend. But I think I might have to read Beowulf! Sounds … like fun haha. I have the Seamus Hennessy version. And I actually am looking forward to reading it 😊
Great video! You have me really wanting to read Piranesi now! And Then There Were None is one of the few non-fantasy books that I have read. I chose it to read in my senior English class during some assignment. I remember really enjoying it and thinking about reading more Agatha Christie, but never did.
I love not being able to guess the bad guys in Agatha Christie novels. I have read them all. Me and husband just listened to Hitchhikers. Still a great story.
Thanks, Maeve! I think so many people are attracted to the idea of just a nice weekend read without getting into something so epic like we usually read!
I actually love the figuring out aspect of Agatha Christie! I have a 2/3 success rate rn and I adore Hercule Poirot. Thank u for reminding me to get back to her 😊 (And oh my gosh I need to read Piranesi too 😭)
Thanks for your videos so entertaining and informative I just bought Sandman Slim and Dungeon Crawler Carl 😂looking forward to reading them once I finish The Stand uncut!
I can't believe I still haven't read Never Die, Rob J. Hayes is one of my faves!! Also, don't mind me cackling over Beowulf in here 🤣🤣 Some recs from me would be anything by Rex Burke, but especially The Wrong Stop. And also A Necromancer Called Gam Gam by Adam Holcombe!!
Oh man, great list. Calling now😂 I’m digging into Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban this weekend, the weather is supposed to pretty good in New England
Some great shouts here. Honestly Piranesi is probably in my top 5 books of all time, it is that good! I would probably add any Discworld to the list as well because most of them are standalones and extremely digestible. One more is Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel, which just over 300 pages is such a quick read, all about a dystopian world that has been ravaged by a plague and you follow a moving musical band. There's so much beauty in the book, in spite of the surroundings.
Great list, just from the way you started introducing the bonus I guessed it, lol. Great OFTR today, my picks are pretty much anything I haven't read as yet from SW Legends, can normally go through one of those in a weekend day and they're satisfying.
In the past a new Stephen King novel was always my vacation novel, I think he releases a book twice a year so whatever the latest one was I would get it from the New Fiction 14-Day section from the library. Now my fantasy tbr takes that spot, the lightest book that fits into my travel bag.
It's rare seeing booktubers talk about Agatha Christie ... And I'm all here for it 🤩. And then there were none was soooo good I read it tiwce (so far 😆)
True, but what people don't know is that our call center reps expertly sell them our BellTube merchandise once we have them on the line. But, good awareness!
The best short reads I've had lately are the Penric and Desdemona novellas by Lois McMaster Bujold. A minor son of a noble house gets a demon stuck in his belly. Adventures ensue. Same universe as her Chalion series. P.S. Look up the original title of that Agatha Christie book.
I think I read And Then There Were None in less than 2 days. Great recommendation! Also I called 877-Beowulf and the help desk just keep talking about something called "Edan"??
I confess I'm in the 10% of people who really disliked Piranesi. It's never fun being on this side of the fence; I prefer to enjoy things that others also enjoy!
No worries. I'm dropping my Aug recap video Friday and I promise I'll be on that side of the fence on a very popular book... But yep, I think for that one, people dig it 100% or just don't.
Such a fun video for me to make! I hope you enjoy! Leave a comment and let me know what you love to read for quick, weekend reads! Special Thanks to Dr. Chase for being the best sport :)
