  • Biochar is a high-carbon form of charcoal that is scientifically proven to improve the health and vitality of trees, crops and grass. It lasts for thousands of years so you only need to use it once, it's peat free and good for the environment: 1 tonne of biochar in the ground is the equivalent of 3 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide permanently sequestered from the atmosphere.

Thanks, this has greatly helped me since I am studying for a competition called the world scholars cup, and studying biochar is a part of it, this has greatly helped me understand it, Thank you!

My dad, being an old farmer would take our fireplaces ashes and spread them around our fruit trees...Now I know why!

what happens if charcoal absorbs nuclear radiation? anti-radiation or even keep radiation longer?
which if a disaster occurs all farmers must dispose of their charcoal that has been planted for decades at a very high cost.

Why is 1 ton of Biochar locked away equivalent to 3 tons of Carbon removed from the atmosphere?

Even more than 3 tonnes. Charcoal is almost pure carbon. CO2 molecule has 1 atom of carbon and 2 atoms of oxygen. Atomic mass of carbon is 12, oxygen - 16. Do the maths yourself.

Scientifically, HOW does biochar’s high carbon content “prevent carbon dioxide from being released into the environment?” Isn’t carbon dioxide NECESSARY for plant life? We plant King Stropharia mushrooms BECAUSE they release carbon dioxide for our plants to breathe.
I would like your scientific reasoning on this, please.

It's not quite as straight forward as described in the video. Rather than "preventing CO2 from being released...", I like to describe it as a SLOWING OF THE CARBON CYCLE. It is not truly permanent as stated here, but is a way to lock carbon in the soil for 100's to 1000's of years. For example: wood chips as mulch, they may decay in a couple of years, >99% of the Carbon in that wood will cycle back to the atmosphere as CO2, 1000 years.
The actual residence time depends on many factors including biochar characteristics (biomass feedstock used to make it and production parameters, especially temperature), climatic conditions, and soil type. When the organic material is pyrolyzed into charcoal, the carbon molecules become aromatic carbon structures which are highly resistent to decay. For the most part, the higher temperature the pyrolysis, the slower the decay. Hope that helped!

I do not understand how it cannot decay.

I think it does degrade it just takes a long time and one of the only ways it can get removed is if it is exposed to the surface and oxygen.

me still no understand. permanent blyat? for whot blyat i need permanent shit in soil which never deteriorate? and whot about the thing that char is sucking out oll nutrientos from soil?
