Please listen to this to the end. It is soooo beautiful. The words of Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, Shafqats' father, are so wonderful. Then there is the beauty of the singer. Fantastic!!! So moving.
Pahari in itself is so soothing ! And Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan so wonderfully brings out the regional variations within Pahari ! This is not normal stuff, this is stroke of a genius !!
Chan mera chariya Taviye de paar Tenu Meoin udeekan dhola Jummuye di dhaar Pehli wari apne ilaqay de darya Tavi da hawala kise ganay ch vekh sun k bari khushi hoi a . Baqi jo kuj v Shafqat Saab nein pesh kita a ustadana maharart naal pesh kita a tay lajawab a .
Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan is the current leading representative and exponent of the Sham Chaurasi Gharana, and what a fine job he is doing. The whole classical music fraternity ought to be proud of him. In this cut he displays his versatility and capability, showing his vast knowledge of the different styles of singing of various regions.
The beauty of this rendition is primarily due to the high quality recording setup by BBC. The very same presentation could have been recorded with poor microphones and poor mixing and would sound just awful. The clarity of the voice, tabla and guitar are all vital in this setup. Fantastic!
I love pahari especially when used to sung in thumri style, and Shafqat simply Great, no more words for him Lovely, A true deciple and heir of sham churasi gharana.
@Claudiaitaliansrkfan In indo pakistan some times people include ali as a middle name, like shafqat ali means a person whom Ali loves(Hazrat Ali was the cousin and son-in-law of Our Prophet), so nusrat fateh ali in urdu means Victory of ALi as Fateh means to victory, Talib ali means a person who is a talib of ali talib came from talib which means your wish, mainly these ustads are shias or moderate sunnis who love family of Prohet Mohammed
What an amazing voice. Soft, yet strong. Transcends the octaves in a flash. Its unknown to me why Shafqat sings mostly ghazal style, and hardly any hindustani classical (like his father).
Tusan raabta kita bari khushi hoi . Jammu wali tawi Marala de muqam tay Chenab naal aa mildi a .Marala Sialkot zila ch a. Vekh lawo Sangeet nay aapus ch gal baat da kaisa moqa fraham kita a . Kadi kadi gal baat hondi raye tay khushi di gal a .

Good riddance that text display. Thanks Arifkhan for the info! Young, expressive, photogenic & charming! Could get addicted. What cascades of emotive sublime expressions and yet I feel it is only a fraction of the ocean of feelings lurking below! Perhaps some new compositions or a more freely rendered reinterpretations of some of the classic repertoire could do justice to this talent. Not that it is imperative but it seems that his potential almost begs the question.Wish I was a music composer!
kya ustaad jee Earls court mein rehtay hain ?? mujhe southall se nazdeek parta hai .. yaar kisi din ustaad-e-mohataram se mulakaat hi karwa do mere bhai ... :-) sada khush raho
Menou punjabi achi nehi aandi! Nevertheless this man is a born performer. Qawalis are no doubt that most interactive musical events, perhaps unknown in the whole world except India. Its roots probably lie in classical music of India, which are doubtlessly interactive dynamic sessions between the musicians and the instruments and the responding public. Qawali has something unique to boast. It lifts the audience from mere consumers to active partners! Long live this tradition.
Nofil Naqvi Sahab, Thanks for the video magar aapne tabla player ka naam na batakar badi hi beinsafee kee hai.tabla player aur hum music lovers ke saath.
