This was the first book I read with my Mom's help when I was about 6, and she should have known better... our dog, Louie 2 had been hit by a car earlier that year... it tore me up then, and today I shared this audio with my second second daughter. She like the first did not cry at all when reading/listening to this, they don't understand yet. Our family dog, now 13 years old and kicking, has spared them the heart ache. An Akita-Inu, Cochise, was the adoption a year or two after Louie 2 died, and did for me what that speckled pup did for Travis. It might come as no surprise that I insisted on an Akita-Inu over my wife's choice of a Pug early in our marriage, and when Leela passes, she will break all out hearts. When Fry comes, the kids will get this story, not till then. Nothing quite like the time in your life when you realize what is important and what Love truly is. Cheers.

Excellent job narrating. All of my children got so into the story. My husband was in the car for the last hour or so of it, and he asked us to pause it when he had to run in to the store for a minute. :)
My kids would say ''mom I don't understand this book when I read it '' so I searched and searched and I found this is said girls come try this and now they know it almost liked they studded it and the only resin they wanted to understand this is cause there going to 5th grade and they had to read this and there stepdad promised them that whoever wins gets 250 dollars with I thought was dumb and there twins so they said that that instead of one girl have 0 dollars and the other have 250 dollars they are spilling the money the winner gets 150 and the loser get 140 and the one who won was Chloe and the one who lost was Kamryn with was surprising to me cause Chloe hated reading and was an outside kid and hardworking outside and Kamryn was and inside kid so she loved reading and shr is a hardworking kid in inside so thanks for helping my children ☺☺☺☺

This is such a good book. And if anyone is looking for another book to read like this one, try Where the Red Fern Grows. That one is pretty good too.
